i have been playing minecraft: java edition since the 1.5 update. my early teenage days were spending bunch of time building houses, weird cyber cities made of iron and gold blocks, fighting off monsters, and playing with my brother on a (singleplayer) world. i didn't really think of the game that much, but i'd go back from school and try out everyday, unknowingly becoming a part of my teenage years. i didn't have my parent's credit card at the time, so i had to resort to a dark technique, such as downloading minecraft from a questionable source.

there was a time i played minecraft: pocket edition. i didn't really like the mobile version that much because bunch of features were missing from the PC version, but it was one of biggest gateway to local multiplayers with friends. often i would invite my friends to play the mobile version through hotspot (of course, nowadays this is called the LAN multiplayer).

there was a time i like playing with command blocks. i didn't really try them that much, but i remember copying and pasting bunch of creative and elaborate self-constructing command block contraptions that would add new "mechanics" and "features" to the game, such as custom items (often overpowered), custom entities, and more. as i grew older, i've tinkered around with the more advanced and technical stuff in the game, like redstones, and eventually, i got into the source code of the game itself, and because of this, the first programming language i've ever learned is Java.

since then, i've bought minecraft, and i played on numerous SMP servers with my friends. i rarely ever get active in the minecraft community, so you wont really see me much often there.

this section serves as my to-do list for the minecraft wiki:

• interest on style guidelines for tutorial pages
  • tutorial notability:
    • tutorial pages should explain step-by-step/tutorial of a game mechanic around the Minecraft itself
      • Legends and Dungeons have their own tutorials
    • tutorial pages about the Minecraft community should be supported, like minigames and mods
      • although for mods, tutorial for specific mods should not be supported. generally, i expect tutorial on setting up mod loaders, setting up a modpack, or setting up a modded server should be allowed
      • i think community minigames should be allowed on mainspace, because they have such impact and popularity on the community itself. otherwise, tutorials about them should definitely be supported, like Tutorial:SkyWars, Tutorial:Manhunt, Tutorial:Speedrun, and tons more
    • i don't think Tutorial:Programs and editors should be a tutorial page (out of scope). i think it should be moved into the project namespace (e.g., Minecraft Wiki:Programs and editors) for archival purpose
    • i think low quality or unfinished tutorial pages should be moved somehow, either into a subpage (Tutorial:Draft) or user subpage. i intend them to be a draft that can be evolved into a real pages. making them centralized in Tutorial:Draft subpages could give them more visibility and collaboration (compared to user page)
    • tutorial pages should not be an index or list of something. similar to my previous point about programs and editors. tutorial pages that offer a list of script that can do something or mods that can do that thing generally are very unmaintained and get outdated really fast. plus, if we advertise other programs, we have to trust that program do not have malicious intent / virus.
      • we should prefer open-source programs over proprietary ones. but also, remove/warn outdated and unmaintained programs.
    • the tutorial namespace should contain pages with actual tutorial content, it should not be used for archival content. i think the basic fundamental aspect of a tutorial page should be a step-by-step explanation on how to do something. it should not be a place where you dump un-notable content from the mainspace content. that stuff should belong in a proper project page (as subpages)
    • tutorial should generally explain how to do X as the best it can. low-quality tutorial pages often contain "jack of all trades" information, e.g., the bloated Tutorial:PvP (Java Edition). the other minigames tutorials are not out of this. i think they should be archived in a different tutorial 'group' page, like Tutorial:Archived. while they are archived, we could make better tutorial pages (separate of concern) out of these stuff
  • tutorial style guides:
    • i think it should closely follow the current MCW:SG, but third party perspectives are allowed for more beginner friendly tone, since these are tutorials
    • script or any kind of things that modify the user's system and environment should be marked with a warning. similar to {{Script warning}} usage. this is to warn users about potentially permanent changes in their system or environment, and they should be careful about it
      • additionally, the warning should be isolated into a specific section/heading that has it. it shouldn't apply to the whole article, unless if the article primarily revolves around a script usage or something.
  • gradual implementation – i think low quality and unfinished tutorials should be moved out of the top level page (Tutorial:) and instead should be moved as subpages:
    • Tutorial:Draft contains tutorial pages that meets the (currently nonexistant) tutorial notability guidelines, but are either low quality or not good enough
    • Tutorial:Archived is the opposite, they don't follow the guidelines but the information/content are important enough to be archived, in that, more better tutorial pages could be created from them

• Bedrock Dedicated Server#History - separate notable histories (like removal of bedrock pdb file) from the bloated software version history

• Ore UI#Development - expand this section with notable histories after beta 1.16.100.50 and React Facet conference

• adguard for DNS and browser-level ad blocking. in the age of google’s monopoly over web standards and browsers, especially after chrome’s crackdown on extensions like ublock origin, i prefer adguard for two reasons: (1) it’s a standalone program, so it bypasses browser API limitations entirely, and (2) blocking ads/trackers is as simple as one click. the lifetime license might feel pricey, but i’ve used it since 2020 without issues, and it’s still my go-to
• mcasset.cloud (mentioned by MinecraftExp123 in Special:Diff/2846719), a website that provides a browser for Minecraft texture files, without opening the JAR file manually
