Hailing from China, Liu Wen is widely recognized as China’s first ever Supermodel and a pioneer in the fashion industry.
In 2006, Liu Wen was discovered in Beijing and was immediately brought to Paris. She soon flew to New York, where she shot her first campaign with Steven Meisel, and she quickly became a fixture on the high fashion runways.
Liu Wen’s groundbreaking industry achievement arrived when she became the first worldwide Asian spokeswoman ever to land an international cosmetics contract, signing with the prestigious Estée Lauder brand in January 2011. She currently serves as the Global Ambassador for Chanel Beauty.
Liu Wen is also the owner of many other trailblazing achievements. In 2009, she became the first East Asian model to ever walk the Victoria’s Secret show. In the same year, she became the first Asian model to enter Forbes’ Highest Earning Models list. In 2014, she became the first individual in the world to wear the Apple Watch on a fashion magazine cover (Vogue China), a feat widely seen as a pioneering step in fashion’s ongoing crossover with technology. In 2017, Liu Wen became the first Chinese model featured on the front cover of American Vogue. She repeated the feat two more times in April 2020 and May 2023. In March 2024, she was the first model of Asian descent to be featured solo on a French Vogue cover.
Throughout her successful career, Liu Wen has shot multiple covers & stories for industry leading publications. She has also been featured in campaigns for brands including Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Calvin Klein, Chloe, Giorgio Armani, Givenchy, Gucci, Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Tory Burch, Valentino, and Versace.
Near the beginning of her career, Karl Lagerfeld said of Liu Wen, “of the new generation, [Liu] is the best and will become a great star.” Today, in accordance with all her accolades, many international outlets from the New York Times to CNN have dubbed Liu Wen as the first Chinese Supermodel.
