so i've been deeply involved in other things not related to he-re/ar, but I should rather like to put together an end of year list and not cop out this year of our lord 2009. after all, it is the last one in which i can say "ought" (ought-4, ought-9, etc). can you refresh on that which has appeared this year, or perhaps point me in the direction of things? | [lemming_radio] 👁 Image

well that went on right nicely, didn't it? so now that this has been dead for several years, what are you assholes listening to? do you participate in other music taste rating communities? will you link me to your favorite end of year lists as they come in? to answer my own questions: 1.most super noisy or super ambient shit, or hip hop from the early 90's. i either want to be a child or want to be clubbed over the head most times. gas's pop has moved leaps and bounds in myh mind. the past week i'm also on this beefheart thing as well. it's lyrics and delivery in this case. 2.i do not participate what so ever 3.i asked first, and although i geek out over music, i don't read much but julian cope. | [trouserminnow] 👁 Image

i was going to say that i'm not a complete asshole.

i know i have been filling the ears of everyone and their mom about my hard rock kick, but i'm looking for any other artists i've missed for my 2 disc under the radar of classic rock radio hard rock compilation. here's what i got so far (note, some of these artists are very well known, but the majority of their catalogue isn't):
sir lord baltimore pentagram montrose blue cheer highway robbery mountain the dictators the stooges MC5 the dead boys richard hell budgie the troggs (other than wild thing, obviously) vincent black shadow pink fairies hawkwind the obsessed st. vitus granicus foodbrain motorhead 13th floor elevators blue oyster cult the damned mink deville flower travellin' band shinki chen love live life + one galaxy new gods the pagans rocket from teh tomb the groundhogs human instinct
and there's some punk rock on there, but i only added artists that i felt like went well within that milieu of fuzzed otu guitars, solos, balls to the wall riffs, etc. shit that was real rock n roll like and not as wussy as blondie or as well recognized for greatness as los ramones. i've got most of the american bands i want on there, but i know i'm lacking on the euro guys that i just can't think of right now. anyone want to help with bands or suggestions of tracks by the listed bands? shit, trying to cull my pentagram-lust down to one track is going to be impossible. trying to cull this down to two discs may prove impossible.
edit: jeebus, i keep adding and adding to this list. this is impossible. | [trouserminnow] 👁 Image

working to put together a compilation of non-standard love songs---stuff like "i wanna be your dog" or being in love with something that isn't another person, deranged love songs, that type of thing. any suggestions are great.
also: agree or disagree on whether or not "gimme danger" qualifies as a love song, and why. | [trouserminnow] 👁 Image

what songs do you come back to over and over, like some kind of bad relationship or addiction? | [geoffreywilimek] 👁 Image

Album recommendations for these people/genres: 1. Judas Priest? 2. Thrash Metal? Aslo: Why do some (usually very metal) people hate Metallica's early stuff even though it really did seem to change/create the lasting thrash metal sound and nothing seems to have come out that sounds anything close to like it from that time? Even if Exodus' first came out in 84 that's a year behind Kill 'em All and though I love Bonded by Blood it's more loose fun metal whereas Metallica's is solid as hell without being too evil. I dunno I'm naive in this territory. 3. Is there more stuff like Ice Cubes first and Public Enemy's second albums? I hope this is an appropriate post. | [trouserminnow] 👁 Image

it has recently come to my attention in playing with [Bad username: out_crowd)]ass</b>ociated with the "music rating community." this was, of course, in large part a thought process re-ignited by a post made by 👁 Image newyorkisnow which has been carelessly deleted and thereby oddly, when i check, i remain the only person on livejournal who lists this as an interest. more than anything, i see this as indicative of something i was tempted to joke about, namely being something of a staple on the scene of these things. i will not go into divulging a giant list of everything i've done and been a member of, but there is a certain satisfaction in knowing that even if i haven't been doing this as long as, say, the original FYC member, i've still probably been banned from more of these things than most people have applied to (the sort of rating community equivalent to "i've forgotten more about X than you'll ever learn." hell, i've even apparently created the favorite community of at least one of you attention-loving music nerds. and even if mangle wasn't your favorite, or you never even saw it, if i remember correctly, at least one popular follower gained its initial strength from a comment bomb from several of my then esteemed members. with that being said, i certainly won't stop anyone from discussing music here. that topic has certainly been something i've struggled to find an interesting way to discuss here since this place died off. nevertheless, i'd like to present my (probably) final attempt to reignite the oven over here--- lj_musical_mangle will now be a forum to discuss the phenom. of music rating communities.what are they? are they worthless? what are you favorite memories of them? would you like to bitch about what happened in one of them? what is this "rating community" taste people occasionally mention? and so on. you people are (for the most part) very smart, so you get the point. the future is now, and it is open to everyone, and i mean that. i don't care about your age, race, creed, sex, orientation, past group affiliation, past group affliction, feelings about me, possession of firearms or controlled substances, or really much of anything else. as you know, most posts coming in here are in a moderation queue, though some of you will have the ability to make them without worry for a queue until/unless i remember how to change that. you also know that i can be very quick to ban people so for god sakes have fun rather than anything else. and hey, if you're up to it, see to it that the fine folks at 👁 Image sound_rationale and fyc get wind of this, so that if they should dane to be interested, they can join in. i can't post at the former and don't feel like becoming 👁 Image raw_density to post in the latter. | [hippo_crates] 👁 Image

alright kiddies: at night i drive like a maniac. many of you know this, but only a few firsthand. day and night i work too much, many of you know this, but only a few firsthand. what does all this mean? i don't have the time, and because of this awful computer, i don't have the h.d. space for much music. i can't go about getting the stuff i want or stuff i don't know i want but actually want in some esoteric fashion. lately though, my fast driving mind has been responding to really hectic, frenetic drumndrillnetcnbass. you know what i mean, that's why you're here. that is also why i'm writing here. you see, i'm offering a prize to the person who can send me the best compilation of the above mentioned music. cash prize. and some other crap, but i haven't decided yet. in this light, all i can see is the half-soiled captain morgan's bandana i got during mardi gras, and you probably don't want that unless you like the smell of my sweat. offer your entry as a yousendit or whatever link in comment form to this post. hell, if you're not a member, you can still post on this one, i don't care. you'll probably lose though. i'll be scoring entries on a formula that factors in: a score for delivery times a small subjective value for how i "feel" when i'm driving to it a score for continuity a score for "intensity" based on how little time is spent at low tempo a score for the amount of variety in the beats. this means go easy on the gabba. a score for a well defined/played out mood(s) don't waste my time kids, i'll make it worth your while. i appealed to this club for a reason, i know y'all can bring it. | [hippo_crates] 👁 Image
