In the shadowy streets of Lรผgenbergโa city where humans and demihumans coexist in uneasy peaceโan unusual detective agency operates far beyond the reach of common law. There, vampire investigator Arne Neuntรถte pursues the uncanny, blurring the lines between violence and truth.
Everything begins to shift when Lynn Reinweiร, a noblewoman whose fascination with vampires outweighs her grasp of their danger, crosses paths with Arne. The two form an alliance in pursuit of bloody mysteries that emerge from Lรผgenberg's darkest corners as death and deception surface beneath the city's gothic veneer. Through each case they solve, Arne and Lynn discover time and again that truth is more elusive than what any surface can reveal.
[Written by MAL Rewrite] Arne no Jikenbo is based off the RPG Maker game of the same name. | |

It's an enjoyable ride, but it needed more room to breathe. And if you're in the EN audience, you're definitely missing a few things.
This anime is based on an RPGmaker game title available on Steam, which I bought and played as a bundle (base game + DLC) before I started watching this series. It was actually on my wishlist anyway, since I took note of any paid RPGmaker games now on Steam that were originally available as freeware translated by vgperson. The base game is a single mystery covered in episodes 2-5, leaving the majority of the series as anime-only installments.
And overall, I enjoyed these
...
new mysteries, even if they were predictable for some and usually only given 1-2 episodes per case. I liked seeing mysteries play out with different supernatural elements, from vampires to mermaids to invisible men, but the pacing will already feel rushed on that element alone.
From there, there are a few more bumps in the road in what they choose to adapt. They never adapted the DLC, which answers some minor questions at the beginning of episode 6, would have been some fun carnival-based fluff for an episode, and would have provided a solid introspective moment for Lynn - all that skipped over.
But more importantly, while "Teils 1-4" of the video game is what the EN gaming audience has to go by, the JP audience has much more, apparently up to "Teil 13". This, I hope, would have given some more context to who Amy is within the detective agency and how she joined, as well as the team's past with "Phantom Thief Red Riding Hood", so that's two major characters that the anime speeds through introducing to us as if we should have some context, which almost everyone in the EN audience certainly won't from our version of the Steam game.
And that just adds onto the speedy pacing that makes the whole thing feel rushed. But knowing that major flaw... I still had fun? I've certainly been more disappointed by other anime this season. And I'm following a fan translation for the manga as well, to see if anything was covered there too. So I can't say I didn't like it. I personally would have made different decisions for what mysteries to adapt and what to create that's original to the anime, but since I'm not in charge, I'll just leave this here saying it was a solid seasonal to follow despite all the headaches. I'd say for you to just go in knowing what to expect.

I don't know how I ended up here. Lol
I was not really interested in watching it, but the OP actually slapped.
I guess I was easily interested, huh? Never knew that.
How did I find this?
YouTube suggested the OP for this anime. I was curious and eager to watch it.
Appealing (Why did I get into the anime?)
I have never watched those retro plots where an overactive girl who loves vampires meets a real vampire. This is my first exposure to that genre.

The review;
Plot/Story
A girl named Lynn Reinwe... Wait, sorry, is that a freaking German letter? Reinweiร? I'm shocked. I have never seen an anime character using a German letter. But then again, I didn't watch anime during the pandemic, so I might miss a couple of anime characters using those letters...
Anyway, yeah, Lynn Reinweiร is a Heiress of the Reinweiร family... well, she used to be until things happened to her family. That event led her to meet Arne Neuntรถter. Before going further, I have to mention that Lynn has a huge fantasy about a vampire. And wouldn't you know it, Arne is actually a vampire. He is not only a vampire, but he is also a detective.
After knowing who he is, Lyne asked to join forces with Arne to uncover the truth about her family's tragic event, while also becoming his assistant detective.
Ok, that's the gist of it. The overall plot? Not really great. I was wondering why the story feels all over the place. I have to mention this! After the first arc... wait, no, the first episode was not about Lynn. I forgot. They baited the viewer to think that the boy from the first episode would join forces, too, but no.
After the SECOND arc, which is the origin of Lynn joining Arne, the story lost their footing. They literally went the other way and did not focus on Lynn's story. And *Spoiler Alert* by the end of the story, they tie the knot in every case/arc. They wrapped up by saying those cases are all connected.
SUUUURE.
See, here is the thing. I've just found out that this anime source material is a game. JRPG at that. I could already think why the story is so loosely connected. After learning that, I might just pick up the game. The overall story is not worth watching the anime. Trust me.
Character
Charming.
The characters' designs are cute.
Their personalities are great.
Overall, the characters are good. Too bad the story didn't make this charming character shine.
OST/SFX
The OP was fantastic. I love the song and how the animation moves as the song is sung. ED was great too. Nothing specific to talk about.
OP and ED aside, the OST and SFX in the anime itself, Two Thumbs Up!
Animation
This one is a wild card.
You see, it's been a long time since I've seen one of Silver Link's anime. The one that I watched TWICE was Kokoro Connect. That was great, but Arne? It was a weird one.
Most of the time it was okay, but the episode 10 to 12 aired...
Those episodes, man. I think they still have a lot of money to work on the anime. Those are the only episodes that they work hard on. The camera works, and cinematography on the last 3 episodes was incredible.
I don't know how to feel about this section, to be honest. All I could say, I enjoy watching it.
VA
Two Thumbs Up!
The conclusion;
Enjoyable
Yeah. I did enjoy it, but not much.
Worthable
As I said at the beginning, I was not really interested, but because of that OP, I delved in.
Is it worth it? No, but it did make me want to play the game.
Delivery
It's great. I wasn't disappointed with the production. I mean, episodes 10 to 12 alone make it very clear that they can do better.
OG Sauce
From the looks of the anime, I might want to play the game.
Overall 7.1/10
I just enjoy the anime for fun. That's it. I don't know if I would recommend it to you. I've heard there were series that did better on this specific genre of TV entertainment.

Preliminary
(10/12 eps)
Spoiler
This is an anime that started with a lot of potential, but as it passed, it started loosing itself more and more.
The first thing that kills this anime for me is the fact that they can't decide if it's going to be a consistent storyline, following one single case or if it's going to aim for something more episodic. It kinda feels like they wanted to follow a storyline at first but didn't have enough source material, so they had to improvise (or maybe they simply couldn't decide, so they chose both). Either way, it looks messy e poorly done, since it feels like
...
they just switch halfway through.
The second point is the lack of information. After telling Lynn's story, it just abruptally goes back to the beginning, without explaining what even happened in between, as if it wasn't important. It doesn't explain the add of new characters or fully tells us how some of them came back. Relating and caring for those characters becomes difficult, since it just feels like they were shoved into the group with no further explanation.
The story itself isn't great, but it's also not that bad. It just ended up so messy and desorganized, which along with a mid plot and bland characters, just left a quite mediocre anime.
