What a difference a couple years and a change of studio makes. I was Chained Soldier season 1’s biggest hater. The story was okayish, but the production values, especially the CGI were abysmal. Seven Arcs you will pay for your sins.. but along came Passione to quite literally save this series. It’s still not Frieren or Mushoku Tensei quality, but compared to season 1, this season could go in the Louvre. It also helps tremendously that the plot of season 2 is miles better than season 1. Ren being introduced alone is worth a couple percentage points of improvement, but the arcs covered were genuinely
...
great for me. Season 2 is a much better mix of world building, action and of course, goons(better than ever btw) It took this hater and made a believer and fan out of me, to the point where I grabbed a ton of merch from the recent Gamers Akihabara pop up shop collab, so yea, I was moved here.
Season 2 of chained soldier just feels like a bigger and badder version of season 1 in every way. Story is way better with Yuuki and the demon defense force taking on their biggest threats yet and having the best battles of the series, being pushed to the limits and unlocking new abilities, you know, the shonen of it all. I also actually really enjoy the lore and storyline in this series. I know for a lot of people the story is just a vehicle to get from one reward seen to the next, but I actually think the thunder gods are cool adversaries and want to see how they’ll take them out in the end. It’s definitely a barebones story, but idk, it just works for me. Yuuki and the girls getting closer in this season was also really enjoyable, especially his bond with Kyouka and the Azuma clan. Of course my beloved Tenka gets some nice shine and then there’s newcomer Ren who has had everyone in a chokehold since her debut. Yuuki himself feels like he’s grown too. Last season, it felt like he was extremely passive and just kind of along for the ride as he’s surrounded by a group of beautiful women and living every man’s dream. BUT, season 2 Yuuki feels like a guy who’s earned that dream. He takes initiative, he gets things done and he’s there to support the girls both emotionally and physically. He’s finally someone worthy of a harem. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the guy is some outstandingly good character, but he’s serviceable and in the top half of harem MCs in my opinion. The bar is in hell, but still.
Goons this season were outstanding. The rewards went to an entirely different level, both because of Takahiro’s writing as well as the improved production quality that Passione bring. There’s some seriously crazy stuff happening this time around, the way Takahiro just uses this series as an excuse to write about some his fetishes is so funny.
There’s not a ton to add about this one. It’s as advertised erotica battle shonen with decent world building, action and great fanservice. Not for everyone, but I for one welcome the improvements over the last season. I hope they keep these cu—coming.
Chained Soldier Season 2 gets 8 dog collars out of 10.

Chained Soldier is back with Season 2. I did not think this one would get another season... but here we are!
Story & Characters: Chained Soldier Season 2 continues the events after Season 1 has finished with the not-so-distant future. Our energetic 7th Squad has honed their skills and continue to fight the Shuuki. We have now learned who leads these monsters and are eager to get to hunting those that seek to put an end to humanity.
This season starts out with an introduction to our other commanders. Kyouka and Yuuki are summoned, along with the other commanders to discuss the future
...
plans to fight the Shuuki. Ren Yamashiro is the leader of these commanders, though she's not quite as involved with the story as I thought she'd be. After these initial meetings, the story breaks down into three district arcs. I'm not sure if they have official names, but they essentially boil down to a training arc, the Azuma arc and the fight vs a Thunder God.
The training arc has a lot more story and character introductions than anything else. Outside of the fact that they use this as an excuse to insert more fan service due to Yuuki training with different people, it serves to add depth to our characters and not a whole lot more. The Azuma arc focuses around Himari's family. I'm not the biggest fan of her character, but they utilized her in an okay way during the course of this arc. She's summoned to fight in a free for all within her family in order to determine the next future head of the family. I thought this arc was rather dull, and even the action sequences were just okay. You do get to meet other members of her family, but a lot of the arc is simply around them wanting to show Himari up. The saving grace is that it does end okay.
The final arc the series at its finest, bringing the entire Demon Defense Force against one of the Thunder Gods. One other character introduced in the previous episodes is Mira Kamiunten, who is easily the best character in the entire series thus far. She's fierce and incredibly strong. She takes on any challenge, no matter what and her comradery with her fellow teammates is second to none. She starts and ends exactly how I wanted to - and has a tender side, which is very-anime - but funny. These fights brings out the best of her and even though I find it unlikely she gets this much more screen time going forward, if this continues, she certainly deserves it.
One of the character issues is that a lot of character development goes through Kyouka's Slave ability with Yuuki, and while this isn't terribly surprising, it does focus the attention on those aspects more than it could. Kyouka doesn't really develop at all, and, like I said earlier, Ren's lack of screentime doesn't really tell us much about her other than, yes, she's incredibly strong. (Story: 6/10, Characters: 8/10)
Art: As we hit the final arc, I thought fights looked a lot steadily, cleaner and much less dependent on CG. I didn't realize until a few minutes before starting this review that the studio did change from Seven Arcs to Passione and Hayabusa Films. I'm not familiar with a ton of their work - basically only Citrus and Yuri is my Job! from the former - but this was much superior to both of those. Fights were easily the best part of this series. And yes, the fan service was on full display. (8/10)
Sound: I wasn't the biggest fan of anything sound-wise, but it did it's job for the most part. Voice work was fine too. (6/10)
Overall: Chained Soldier Season 2 is stronger than it's first season thanks to improved animation and a fantastic ending. Not sure if they'll still keep going with this thing, but aside the different story arcs, this season did a lot of what Season 1 did with better action sequences and more characters. If this does continue, I hope they don't introduce too many more characters. Do that and I'm sure it'll be fine. (7/10)

**Not Recommended – 1/10**
I genuinely tried to give Season 2 a fair chance because I actually enjoyed Season 1. It wasn’t perfect, but it had a solid balance between action, fanservice, and a surprisingly engaging story. Unfortunately, Season 2 completely falls apart in terms of writing, structure, and payoff.
The biggest issue is the **pacing and lack of meaningful progression**. The first 1–8 episodes are almost entirely setup: introducing new characters, showcasing abilities, and repetitive training sequences. That would be fine *if* there was a strong payoff—but there isn’t. When the story finally reaches its “climax,” it feels rushed, disjointed, and ultimately unsatisfying.
The **Yokohama arc (Mira
...
vs. Kuusetsu)** perfectly represents everything wrong with this season. The fight choreography and scene transitions are a mess. Characters randomly disappear and reappear with no clear sense of positioning or timing. Mira is built up as a powerful and competent character, only to be reduced to a plot device—used to elevate the threat level and then discarded so the main characters can shine. There is no proper coordination, no logical flow, and no emotional weight to her defeat. It feels forced rather than earned.
Then there’s the issue of the **antagonists**. The Eight Thunder Gods are supposed to be the main threat, but they feel completely hollow. They have no clear plan, no urgency, and no presence. Most of the time, they just sit around talking. Their motivation boils down to “following Mother,” which is not compelling when “Mother” herself is barely explored beyond vague lore drops. Instead of building tension, the story just keeps postponing any real development.
Another major problem is how the **power system and stakes are handled**. The concept of enemies being absorbed and turning into inner-world entities might sound interesting, but in execution it completely kills tension. Villains stop feeling dangerous and start feeling like collectibles or tools for the protagonist. This removes any sense of risk or consequence from the battles.
The **fanservice**, which used to complement the story in Season 1, now feels like it’s replacing it. Instead of enhancing character dynamics, it often interrupts the narrative flow and undermines serious moments. It becomes increasingly difficult to take the story seriously when it constantly shifts tone without proper balance.
Even the **main conflict between humans and the Eight Thunder Gods** feels underdeveloped. There’s no strong sense of urgency, no clear escalation, and no real stakes driving the narrative forward. It feels like the story is stalling rather than progressing.
In the end, Season 2 is not just disappointing—it’s frustrating. There are glimpses of potential, but they are buried under poor execution, weak structure, and a lack of payoff. What could have been a strong continuation instead turns into a directionless and unsatisfying experience.
If you’re only here for visuals and fanservice, you might still enjoy it. But if you care about storytelling, character utilization, and proper narrative progression, this season is a complete failure.
**Final Score: 1/10**
