I typically don't read much manga, but I gave The Emperor and I a try after seeing the cover and reading the synopsis.

Being both cute and funny, this short slice of life manga sucked me in instantly and I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. Like me, I'd recommend reading it all in one go!

The art is charming and makes for a pleasant reading experience, and being full-color makes it pop even more. The characters and their interactions were equally charming and lighthearted. While there's no grand overarching plot or anything of that nature, it suits this manga just fine! ... It's essentially a collection of short stories, loosely tied together over the passage of time in the story. The conclusion suits it perfectly in this regard, though it may leave you wanting to see more (as it did with me.)

This manga was honestly amazing. If you are like me and love penguins then this manga is for you. Loved all 4 volumes and each chapter was such an enjoyment. I honestly will reread this anytime, if I am bored or just want to read manga, that's how good this manga is to me. Without going into spoilers, the story was honestly very unique. Usually the manga everyone loves including fighting scenes, violence, etc but this manga honestly was much more approachable and easy to read. The art style alone should hint that everyone should read this. Besides the art style, the character are also ... amazing. Emperor is an average penguin, but he just makes this manga so adorable. I can also really connect with Kaho cause all the things she did is what I would do if I had a penguin basically living with me. Lastly to concluding this review, I would honestly recommend everyone to read it. The manga reminds me of something children would pick up in the libraries at school and love them to death.

What is there to say about this short series that hasn't already be said in its synopsis?

Emperor to Issho is cute, it is fun, and it is as ridiculous as the premise implies. The short and episodic nature of the story means that it isn't trying to make anyone take it seriously. It fits perfectly in the 'slice of life' genre despite this element though. The lack of overly grand moments makes it more a human story ... than I would have thought it could be.

The art is pleasant to look at; conveying the comedic moments well while not overloading the panels with too much imagery. The colouring works to also emphasise the emotions of Emperor; sacrificing neither its stoic appearance nor the understanding that the reader has.

It is a fun, short series that somehow ends in the perfect way. Just don't go in expecting any answers as to why there is a penguin in the fridge.
