How do I score?
I score mostly based on enjoyment, with a bit of objectivity. My enjoyment maybe mostly come from the story and how likable the characters are.
6 is my average: I enjoyed it most of the time but I did get bored at some points so that I wanted to finish it sooner. Anything higher is good and anything lower is not good enough (not necessarily bad). If asked for recommendation, I won't hesitate to recommend my 8-10s. 1 is reserved for Mars of Destruction.
Why are they so low?
I don't want to give everything 10 or 9, it makes my 8s look bad and I want to make my 10s and 9s special. It also makes the spread nicer rather than giving everything 10 or 9 which is ugly.
Why are they so high?
Probably because I watch shows that I think I would enjoy and I haven't watched that much. It is natural to have them higher.
What do I watch?
I watch what I want to watch. Most of the time I don't need recommendation and the likes I'll see it by myself
What do I want to watch?
My initial reason to watch anime is for the art (read: for the animated and talking cute girls) and it stays as it is. Good characters developments and interactions are also good things. Plots are just secondary since most, if not all anime, got shit plots and story anyway so it's better to have minimum expectations for it. That pretty much also explains that I don't read manga.
Ah and if I want good story I'd be better to learn real world history. Guess what, history really happened so they are 100% free from plotholes, asspull, bad execution, anything. Compare it to some of your stupid magical uninteresting fantasy shits. You can learn much more from history. Oh yeah, of course they are much more interesting if you got into it.

tl;dr: 6 is not bad, it is my average. 7 is already good.
Don't trust MAL score.
Shit show like SAO got 8.56 while a much better show like Girls und Panzer got 6.80 (by 29th Nov 2012). It is never explainable.
