This face mask soothes the skin whilst thorougly cleansing it, it also has anti-bacterial qualities.

Ingredients:

• One handful of rolled oats
  (helps soothes sensitive and irritated skin whilst moisturizing with amino acids)


• Five to eight drops of Bergamot oil
  (known for its antidepressant, antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-spasmodic, calmative, deodorant, therapeutic properties)


• Boiled warm water
  (boiling water helps get rid of any unwanted bacteria and makes it easier to combine the ingredients)

1. Grind the rolled oats in a mortar and pestle or a coffee grinder to achieve a finer powder.


2. Slowly add warm boiled water (the warm water helps open your pores to cleanse your skin) and mix until you have a thick paste (the sort you can form peaks in when you take out your mixing utensil).


3. Add 5-8 drops of Bergamot oil to the paste and mix in.


4. Apply to face and wait 15 minutes. You should feel a soft cooling sensation as it sets.


5. Wash with warm water.

Theoretically, could I use EVOO and eucalyptus oil as my combo. I usually use jojoba, grapeseed oil, and castor but I'm all out.

What about breaking open a fish oil capsule and applying it either with this combo or alone?

Hi, firstly - is this forum still active? Seems a while since the last post that's all...

I recently saw an ad for Sheer Cover makeup and was intrigued and I am considering buying some. I don't wear a lot of makeup, usually I put on a loose powder just to cover any shine I might get through the day, and a bit of blush- that's all I wear. The sheer cover makeup interests me cos I would like a powder makeup that actually does something (mine doesn't do a lot) but still looks natural and is easier to apply than liquid because I am NOT going to bother wearing a liquid foundation all the time.

The problem is, my Mum was telling me about "nano-particles" and the health concerns related to them. I have looked at the sheer cover website and can't see anything saying whether they do or don't use nano-particles. Does anyone know? Also, the ingredients listed on the powder foundation are;
Zinc Oxide (12.00%), Boron Nitride, Bisabolol, Aspalathus Linearis Leaf Extract, May Contain (+/-): Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Mica, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

I really don't know what I'm looking at here- so does anyone know if any of the above is bad? I have been trying to research this for several hours online now and I'm at a loss! I found an article at vivawomen.net talking about titanium dioxide and how it can be a strong health risk when in nano-particle form. However the article didn't say whether titanium dioxide is safe if it ISNT in nano-particle form...

I've also (through all of the research) found another brand of mineral makeup called Jade mineral makeup (an Aussie brand). On their website they specifically say that they don't use nano-particles. They also say that they don't use bismuth oxycloride which i notice is listed in the sheer cover ingredients- does anyone know about this ingredient and why it could be bad? All in all, Jade looks good (and is Aussie - I'd like to support a home-grown brand) however I checked out the ingredients they use and we have;

mica, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide, kaolin, ultramarine, tin oxide

so there it is again- titanium dioxide. However at least with jade I know that it is not in nano-particle form, but is it still safe? Also I noticed one vague reference on another page about mica not being particularly good? I can't find anything on this- as far as I knew Mica was this new fantastic thing and was great?

Hoping you can all give me wonderful advice and I can happily buy myself a new powder foundation! Oh incidentally- anyone tried Jade? is it good?

Hi. This is a brilliant community. I have all kinds of different problems with my skin and it's only in the last year that I relised it was daft paying so much for creams etc when i can do a lot of it myself. I really look forward to keeping up with all your ideas, maybe I can contribute some of my own.

To be honest though, I found this community through looking for places to promote my own.

I'm sorta writing here to vent and hopefully get some encouragement. I visited my GP the other day and asked her about two little red marks on my face which were caused by pimples that got infected a month ago (I'm pretty sure it was because of poor water quality while I was travelling in Central Australia). I was only asking her about them to see if vitamin E cream would help get rid of the red mark or if she could recommend something else.

Anyway she agreed that Vitamin E cream could help and told me to get an oil-free cream. She then went on to say that I should use oil-free suncream if I'll be outdoors and then asked me what moisturiser I am using. I reluctantly told her that I actually use a mix of castor and olive oils as a moisturiser (I've been doing the OCM since November). She told me "No, you need an oil free moisturiser" and then asked what I use as a face wash and I had to tell her that I actually use the oil mix to wash with also. She said "no, no, you need all oil-free because you have oily skin" and then told me to try cetaphil (something like that, I actually threw out the paper she wrote it on).

The whole thing was really frustrating because my GP tends to be a bit close minded towards any "natural" things - she isnt too bad, but she didnt really give me an opportunity to tell her how great the OCM is. My skin really isnt oily since I've been doing it, and I still get blemishes but no more than I ever used to.

I guess I'm just writing to see if anyone else has had negative feedback from GP's or other health professionals- even beauty therapists etc? I know this is going to come up again next time I visit my GP and I want to be armed with all the reasons why I will be continuing to do the OCM....

I've been VERY interested in aromatherapy/essential oils since I was a pre-teen, for everything from mood enhancement to homeopathic remedies to skin care (my favorite)! i was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a (vegan) ingrown hair treatment? my legs are horrible...for about hmmm 6 years now. i talked to a dermatologist about it years ago and she said, "its normal, i get it too, you just have to shave less often, theres no helping it." i actually gave up shaving completely about 4 years ago, and actually my legs look worse now. i know for a fact i have ingrown hairs because on a daily basis i can open up the skin wth my fingers and free the hairs. i just recently learned that im not supposed to do that, and its probably making it worse by using my fingers (ie causing infections?). but nevertheless, no matter how much i exfoliate and moisturize, i cant get rid of the ingrown hairs. im sure its a mix between ingrown hairs and that other skin problem that i cant think of the name for right now..the one where you get red bumps all over your skin ("chicken skin") i dont have a picture at the moment but basically on my skin, every single place where there is a hair follicle, it is either red around the hair, or there is a red ingrown hair spot. so i just have red spots completely covering my legs at all times. it even goes up my thighs. i dont have this problem anywhere else, OCCASIONALLY i will have a few tiny red bumps on the back of my arms but its never been a problem. everywhere else is fine. ive changed laundry detergents to all natural ones, and back again. nothing changes. i remember i tried oil pulling years ago..didnt work. im really trying to see if i can take care of this on my own the natural way before i try to go to a dermatologist again, a) because im a poor college grad, and b) becaues im in a foreign country at the moment and finding english doctors is annoying sometimes.

my skin looks worse after i shower/ exfoliate. the red bumps are even more red. exfoliating is painful..i use the exfoliating glove. if i use something thats softer, it doesn't exfoliate at all! so i have to use something thats a little stronger. it just hurts though..and makes me not want to do it...which makes the problem get even worse :( anyways, sorry for the long post...but if anyone has any suggestions on moisturizers, scrubs, methods, magic potions, or advice i would love to hear about it. just read about the ocm from earlier posts, thinking about trying that on my legs. thanks so much for reading :)

Does anyone use pure Cocoa Butter and/or Shea butter as a moisturiser? I was just wondering because I have a bottle of Palmer's Coconut Butter & on the ingredients there are so many things added that I was wondering if it's necessary? Is it possible to just buy the pure butter and use that straight as a moisturiser? I know where I can buy the stuff but I'm not sure if it's sold as a base for cosmetics & you are meant to add to it....

I don't know much about Shea butter but I can also buy it pure from the same place so I was thinking if I can use both just straight as a moisturiser then I'll get them both and alternate between the two....

Anyone know?

I am a HUGE fan of Suki's products and first discovered them after picking up a copy of "Yankee" magazine while waiting at the doctor's office. Not only are her products REALLY, REALLY good...they are 100% ALL NATURAL and the majority are vegan.

I've just started the OCM this week and I'm trying to sort out a few little hiccups. The main one is- how do you keep it clean? Meaning how do you make sure that you don't get oil all over the bathroom.

I worry about damaging the towls and face washers that I'm using. Mum is a little concerned about putting oily things into the wash too. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep things clean?
