magical_sphere (aka Pippin) to a Green Day concert!
It all happened yesterday and for me it was an adventure even just getting there! I went straight from work to the concert's venue and, since I work in a bank, you can imagine that it wasn't easy adapting my wardrobe to the situation. I tried to wear somewhat neutral clothes, that wouldn't stand out too much in either work or the concert, but let me tell you it wasn't easy and I'm not sure I succeeded.
I quite literally ran most of the way because the line started forming pretty early and it was already late afternoon when I got there. Thankfully, Pippin and our other friend Cátia (who is an absolute concert-junkie) were saving me a place. Because their so lovable. It helped that we bought tickets to the stands, though. We decided not to risk death by squashing this time. =P We still got great seats, with a perfect view and safe from any lunatic teenagers. However, a policeman didn't want to let me enter with my shoes inside my bag! WTH? I wear heels for work, of course I had to change shoes! What a prick! He delayed my entrance for something incredibly stupid! From where we were, I wouldn't be able to hit one of the band members with a shoe even if I wanted to!
As for the concert itself, it was a bomb and we had a blast!
I had never been to a Green Day show before, but they really take the interaction with their audience to a whole other level! There was a dancing pink bunny warming up the crowd (courtesy of Tre Cool, I was told), there was splashing of the audience with a water gun, there was throwing of t-shirts to the crowd and there were a lot (and I mean a LOT) of people who had the chance to go up on stage and either sing, play an instrument or crowd surf! They really are crowd pleasers and their show scores high on the entertainment chart.
The performance was flawless. Although it didn't feel very personal. It felt more like a great show that played over and over. Kind of like an instant formula concert. But it works in every way and doesn't disappoint.
I sang a lot, sweated a lot and had a lot of fun. You could feel the air vibrating with the energy of over 20,000 people who sold out the house to watch one of the great reference bands of the Punk movement. Green Day still act like kids but they use the experience they have to its full potential and they're very aware that their audience is their greatest ally and strength.
Thank you Green Day for making our country part of your tour! You rocked!
