MissMalaprop.com - indie finds for your uncommon life

I just wanted to let everyone know about my new blog, MissMalaprop.com - indie finds for your uncommon life.

You can also read MissMalaprop.com via your LJ friends list by subscribing to 👁 Image

I'm focusing on independent artists and businesses, both in New Orleans (where I live) and elsewhere, as well as other New Orleans & Gulf Coast-related issues and events. I'm trying to use this blog as a way to let people everywhere know about cool independent businesses in the Gulf Coast region...trying to show a brighter side of stuff that is happening down here as a way of getting people interested in and thinking about the current state of things in this region.

The focus will definitely be on indie artists and businesses from all over, though, so if you've got suggestions for future posts, I'd love to hear them. I can't guarantee a post about everything, but I will definitely at least check out every site and consider it. I've been keeping a list of websites and artists that I'd like to post about in the future.

If you have any other feedback or comments about the site, I'd love to hear those as well!

indie craft syndicated feeds and blogs

There are tons of cool crafty blogs and journals out there, and sometimes it seems like they pop up so rapidly that it's hard to keep track of them! I often find it hard to remember to check them, particularly the off-LJ blogs, since I primarily read blog entries via my friends list. I've found that if I can view blogs on my friend's list, it's much easier and I can stay updated about cool indie craft happenings. Here are some cool off-LJ blogs that are syndicated feeds, which you can read via your friend's page:

Jul. 6th, 2006

I finally got around to scanning and uploading the Times-Picayune article from February that featured the blue tarp dress I made on the front page of the Living section. You can see it here.Collapse )

Just a reminder, we're still taking stuff for the swag bags for the fifth installment of the ANTIGRAVITY Alternative Media Expo. The Expo will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Howlin' Wolf here in New Orleans, LA. The Expo features exhibitors with 'zines, comics, photography, t-shirts, music, crafts, and other art and media. The Expo will run from 4pm to 10pm and the cover price is $5. The swag bags will be distributed to the first 250 customers to enter the doors at the Expo...This is a great opportunity to get the word out about your band, business, or organization! Vendors may also participate in the swag bags.

Some swag suggestions include: coupons, stickers, buttons, pens, keychains, CD/DVD samplers, blank notecards/stationary, or other small samples of your products. We ask that you do send actual swag items and not just promotional materials such as business cards or flyers. You can send these attached to your swag, of course. The deadline for sending in swag material is July 31, 2006.

For more information on contributing to the swag bags, including the address to send the swag to, please email Rachelle at swag@neworleanscraftmafia.com.

P.S. Remember to tell your friends to join our mailing list and add this community to their friends list to receive updates from NOCM members!
