I've searched for this topic, but haven't seen it addressed. Forgive me if I missed it.

I am using Expressive Unstyled with custom CSS to drive it. The problem is that the comment subject lines are disappearing when collapsed. I want subject lines to appear in collapsed comments. I have custom comments turned ON.

Good day to you...can you please save my sanity?

It's about my own journal, yesterday all was fine and like it is supposed to be. But when I returned today all my entries are kinda messed up. Every comment thread is there at least twice. When you scroll down and you want to go to the next flister's entry the first one's repeated at least once. And the very last reply to a comment thread is also repeated twice. Happens to every comment thread which is longer than three entries. Hard to explain but if you like to have a look:

http://flummy-pumpkin.livejournal.com/85924.html

Doesn't matter if I use FF or IE.

First I thought I'm drunk but my friends see it as well. Since it's just my journal, from what I've seen so far, I wonder if that might be an Expressive bug? I haven't changed anything in my layers for ages. But I wasn't lucky searching so far.
I'm really lost and I have no idea if it changes of its own again.

Any ideas? Or anything heard yet?

Thanks a ton...

Comments text?

  • Feb. 20th, 2011 at 8:30 PM
Because of an increased amount of spam comments on LJ, I'd like to turn off anon posting. My lj page is syndicated from a wordpress-based site; I'd love to have something on the comment form directing non-lj users to the other site if they wish to comment. Is there a way to add or change the text on the comment page?

Removing Comment Indent

  • May. 16th, 2010 at 4:49 AM
Is there any way to make it so the comments and replies to said comments don't indent at all? I did browse some of the other suggestions on getting rid of the indent, but it didn't work and this is kind of frustrating to me. If someone could help, it'd be greatly appreciated, and if not... that's fine too, I just thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks in advance.

Comment indent

  • May. 29th, 2009 at 11:08 AM
Me again :( I'm sorry to bother you once more but as obvious I do have a question.

Is it possible to stop the indent of comments after a certain amount for Expressive?

I found this for Flexible Squares but it doesn't seem to work for me. It works until I add #4 to my theme layer and then I always get errors. Since I have clue what compiling errors mean I'm helpless.

Thanks in advance!

Comment Threads: random question

  • Apr. 3rd, 2009 at 9:30 AM
I thought we could stop comment threads indenting to the point of invisibility with CSS now?

Is this something I have dreamed?

I am not having an issue with this myself BUT someone was complaining about it last night in a journal I was in. She has a paid account so I can tell her how to do it with a theme layer it's just going the CSS route would be so much easier - if it exists...

several layout questions.

  • Oct. 18th, 2008 at 5:35 PM
I changed my journal around, but there's some bits I just can't seem to remember how to do. I've tried finding answers in the comm, but there are a few issues I am getting confused with. Help!

  • How do I get a diving line between the entries and the sidebar? Everything I've tried either does nothing, or makes the sidebar disappear completely.

  • How do I change the font of the top links (home, friends, etc), and also get whichever one I am on to NOT be bolded?

  • I somehow have a large space at the bottom of the page, which I am guessing is something to do with spacing out my entries. I just don't know how to make it not do that for the last entry on the page!

  • Comments - whats the code to change how many pixels comments indent by?

  • How do I get rid of the 'select' box in comments?

  • I am using CSS and not layers, and have a permanent account..
    Thanks!!!!!

    Please Help Me! Deeply appreciated.

Hi all, I wanna ask if any of you knows how to screen comments to become this format? (Screened Post)
Cos whenever I screened the comment, it'll still be a visible link there,
although other users can't see, but it looks a little bit unglam as compared to the (Screened Post) kind.
    Please helpppppp? ):

Simple question, but it will drive me insane if someone doesn't answer it! How do I turn the Comment Thread Collapsing javascript OFF? It's in effect on this page and I HATE it. With a passion. I don't care if the post eventually gets 1,000 comments - I want to be able to read every one of them without clicking to expand anything. It also makes my CSS look like puke (there's a better word than that but I can't use it here). Somebody please help!

(and probably several other times), these functions will change the linkbars on entries to something like the "3 Column" style. You will have to find/make your own button images; however, LiveJournal does have a few default images that will be used if you don't supply your own. The default image size is 22px wide by 20px tall, but any size button could be used, conceivably. You will need images for:
Permalink, Reply, Replies Frozen, Parent, Thread, Edit, Delete, Freeze, Unfreeze, Track, Untrack, Screen, Unscreen, and Watching (images don't need to be unique).

    Comment threads - solved

    • Aug. 4th, 2008 at 9:08 PM
I'm thinking of switching my layout from component to expressive but I have a question before I dive in... One thing that I really like about component is how each comment/thread has it's own component on an entry page. I was wondering if it's possible to have that look in expressive (like maybe having a separate header & footer for each thread)? I'm sorry if I'm duplicating a previous post but I looked through the tags and couldn't find an answer. I did see the visual map of ids/classes for recent entry pages but didn't see one for individual entry pages w/ comments.

So, I just want to know if this doable (I realize it would be hard to give me specific answers as I haven't even started) and if anyone point me in a good direction.

Thanks in advance for any assistance. :)

    Comment text as images

    • Jul. 18th, 2008 at 8:36 PM
Hello! I've looked around the community and I've yet to see anyone ask but--

Is it possible to change the "comment entry, view comment, edit tags, edit entry...etc" text to images? I was thinking of using some mini web icons instead of text and I'm not sure if you can.

Also, is there a way to hide "Flag, track, and stop tracking" on your own entries?

I use a modified Pixmix layout.

In Firefox, screened comments in threads are not indenting. They therefore appear to be starting new threads, when they should be indented below their parent comments.

I've noticed this bug on my journal for a while now. I think it started when the dashed border was added around screened comments. However, I always assumed it was just a flaw in my own custom CSS, which I'd try to get around to fixing some day. Just now, though, I changed my Theme to various other Expressive Themes, and the same bug is happening on all of them.

Then, since I use Firefox, I checked in Internet Explorer, and everything is showing up correctly there. The bug seems to be Firefox-specific. (I am not sure about other browsers or previous versions.)

Here are some screen shots of the problem and more detailsCollapse )

    Comment issues

    • May. 9th, 2008 at 8:00 PM
Hi, I'm quite new to Expressive and I have a couple of questions.

    1. Is there a way to remove the dashed line in the screened comments? I know they're there for a reason but I don't like them.

    2. Is there a way to move the userpic in the comments to float on the right side of each comment?

    Thanks in advance!

Changing entry links to lowercase: SOLVED!

    • Apr. 11th, 2008 at 5:52 PM
Is there a way to change the entry links from uppercase letters to lowercase?

On this page HERE you can see on the original post all but the LINK is lower case. on the comments for this post, all are uppercase, except for "track this". This LJ owner would prefer to have all of the links ( "Link", "Reply", "Thread") be all lowercase. She did try to edit using the options/customize on her user pages but that did not seem to work. I looked at the CSS i modified for her but could not figure out if there is somewhere to change that info to display it all in lowercase.

    Tutorial Updates and Known Issues

    • Mar. 6th, 2008 at 2:22 PM
No one has been asking about these things (not that I mind!), but the latest code push added some features to layouts:
    • A yellow "double lock" icon on entries filtered to custom friends groups
    • A "Groups" field in the metadata listing the groups to which an entry has been filtered, if applicable
Note that both of these items are only visible to the journal owner. However, MonthPages (i.e. http://community.livejournal.com/s2expressive/2008/03) will show the private "eye" icon on all non-public posts. This has been fixed, but will not go live until the next code release.

I've updated the "Mood icon to the left of metadata" and "Changing metadata order" tutorial codes to include the "Groups" field, for anyone who's using the previous version and not seeing that information.

Finally, another known issue: The comment thread expander, added to Expressive a few months ago and recently expanded to most layouts, uses JavaScript for its implementation. Therefore, if users try to customize the EntryPage::print_comment() function, the compiler will disable the thread expander code. At the moment, I don't have any information on when or if this behavior might be corrected.

Feel free to comment if you have any questions.
