"Being part of the LGBTQ+ community in Second Life has been huge for me. It has allowed me to explore and find myself in a safe, supportive space that I did not necessarily have 100% in the real world. Many of my friends have had a similar experience, where we find ourselves unable to be completely true to who we are in the real world for various reasons."

The biggest shopping destination aggregator on the internet held its annual SeraPride event in Second Life this past June, working together with the community to raise funds for Rainbow Railroad: a charity dedicated to ensuring the safety of LGBTQIA+-identifying people. It was a day packed with fundraising and festivities, featuring SeraPRIDE IDOL, drag race, raffles, and more.
I have seen people become comfortable with who they are in their own skin from the support they receive in the LGBTQ+ community. To watch people grow within themselves and take that initial step to just be who they are is wonderful."
I have been out and proud for a long time in my RL, but during my 15 years of being a part of SL, I've met many people who have shared their stories with me. Some finding themselves, some exploring, some only being able to live out who they truly are in Second life due to varying circumstances.
Second Life has saved my life in a lot of ways. I'm from a conservative quiet town on the South Coast of England and being myself was pretty much out of the question as a kid. I struggled with my gender identity and Second Life gave me a means to explore that.
