BBC Alba is a Scottish television channel owned by the BBC and MG Alba. The channel shows television programs are made in Scottish Gaelic. It was launched on September 19, 2008. It operates for up to seven hours a day showing BBC Radio nan GĂ idheal with unique shows.[1]
The name Alba is the name for Scotland in Scottish Gaelic.
BBC Alba is one of the only BBC license stations that is delivered by a partnership. It was also the first channel to show multiple genres of shows to come from Scotland with most of the programmes made in Scotland.[2][3]
On January 8, 2024, the BBC ended the SDTV feed for BBC Alba on satellite services.[4]
In some other countries, all of the networks have "Alba" in them.
