In Chemistry, precursor is a chemical compound that is used to make another chemical compound. Precursors can be the reactants in a single chemical reaction, or the feedstock of a chemical process with multiple steps.

Precursors to controlled substances, like illegal drugs or chemical weapons, are often regulated by law.[1][2]
