About Christian P. Martin

Chris earned a Master’s degree in Defense & Strategic Studies (Highest Honors) from the University of Texas, El Paso.

SOFREP (A military news site), has published several of his in-depth reports. These reports are largely focused on the Asia-Pacific region.

Additionally, he lived in Vietnam for seven years as an English teacher. This gave him a deep understanding of the Vietnamese culture and the military dynamics of Asia & Southeast Asia.

What is your favourite aircraft and why?

I started to read about World War II in the third grade. From that point forward, the P-38 Lightning, or "Forked Tailed Devil", has always maintained a special place in my heart.

Maybe it's the P-38's unique twin-boom, twin engine design or its heavy firepower, but I have always loved this rugged, World War II brawler.

Quick fact: The P-38 excelled in the tropical climates of the Pacific theater, and a little over 10,000 were built.

What is your industry focus?

My industry focus would largely be oriented towards military, defense and intelligence. I also have a great interest in, and appreciation for, aviation logistics. This is the unsung hero of any military operation (particularly overseas).

Why do you love aviation?

Aviation is truly amazing as it allows people to travel the world with ease. As one who lived in Southeast Asia for seven years, affordable commercial aviation made it all possible.

Through a strictly military lens, airpower (specifically since World War II) has made the quick control of a modern battlefield possible.

It will be interesting to see how this dynamic evolves in the age of advanced missile technology, particularly hypersonics and drones. The latter seem to be becoming a sizable aspect of the future of military aviation.
