About Justin Surette
With a background in Chinese language and marketing, Justin merged his passions for air travel and communication to become a writer and eventually editor for the Simple Flying team. He closely monitors industry changes on a global scale, with particular interest in the East Asian and North American markets.
What is your favourite aircraft and why?
Having spent a significant portion of my life living in both the US and Taiwan, the lion's share of my time in the sky has been onboard a Boeing 777, which quickly became my favorite type. But with Starlux flying the Airbus A350 across the Pacific and EVA Air set to take delivery of the same aircraft, perhaps this will change in the future.
Why do you love aviation?
When I was young, I had the opportunity to fly onboard a Northwest Airlines Boeing 747 from Detroit to Tokyo and the experience has stuck with me since. Part of it was being a child and looking out the terminal window at the massive Queen of the Skies, but more significantly, it was awe-inspiring that hundreds of others were traveling from the US Midwest to East Asia for all sorts of reasons. Aviation connects the world, and this human aspect has me constantly longing for my next flight.
What is your industry focus?
As it relates to writing, I don't have a specific focus, but instead research a plethora of topics. That said, I'm personally interested in transpacific and other ultra-long-haul travel developments, staying up to date with news and changes for most carriers that operate such routes.
