The Lot [Jul. 30th, 2008|04:23 pm]
For art, theatre, and music students in St. Louis
πŸ‘ Image

Hey guys!

I thought I'd extend and invite to everyone if they haven't already heard about The Lot.

It's going on August 23rd, at the Tap Room Downtown and it's free and for all ages. They are showcasing some of the best rock acts our city has to offer, plus live art, belly dancing and other acts. It's all local and it benefits our city. There will be food and of course, beer for those of age, but plenty of other things to do if you're not.

Come one, come all, this is going to be a great time.

Hope to see ya out there! It's going to bring the heat well after sundown.

On Thursday, what are you doing? Wishing for another episode of Grey's Anatomy? Checking for pizza deals?

How about cutting out the banality and coming to see my pals The Carnys? They're coming all the way from Austin, Texas. There will be a mishmash of locals, including the debut act of Presenting Hope. Should be interesting!

The show is at Fort Gondo in South City St. Louis. Don't be scared. We'll keep you safe.

If you didn't already figure it out, the show is this Thursday, August 9th. It starts at  9 - 10ish. Bring 5$ so The Carnys can have enough gas money to make it to their next show!

See you there!

"see, I’ve seen armies
seen β€˜em on picket lines, welfare lines,
seen β€˜em storming the Capitol,
storming the streets,
demanding justice and peace.
I’ve heard of armies in history
in Birmingham, in Montgomerey.
but these dressed-to-kill boys
with their made-to-kill toys
these yellow ribbons that choke trees, please,
it’s a joke,
a sadistic display of militaristic play that ends in
american dreams for the owners of both teams--
and who suffers? who buffers the attack?
who lacks the cash to decline the invitation
to the nation’s most expensive party?
those hearty boys promised schooling,
then sent on their way
to collect their pay from the grave?
well, this gay don’t mind being war-depraved"

πŸ‘ Andrea Gibson Poster

"Guileless, genuine and alive," Andrea Gibson is a poet who creates more than art (San Francisco Magazine).

Rousing audiences throughout the United States and Canada with her poignant message and her genuine interest in generating change, her words are powerful, compassionate, and inspiring. She is a queer poet/activist who is "political, opinionated, and partial to the big issues" (The Westword).

Andrea's poetry deconstructs the foundations of the current political machine, highlighting issues such as patriarchy, gender norms, white-supremacy, and capitalist culture. Her words are honest, humble and "oh my god, I can't believe you said that in public!"

I have my first "showing" going on. Some of my ceramics are on display up until March 30-31 at the Kingshighway Branch of the St. Louis Public Library where I work. It is on the corner of Vandeventer and Kingshighway, across from the Southwest Bank and the Don Brown dealership. If you haven't seen it, I encourage your presence before I have to take it down.

If you are a fine arts major, I suggest scoping out the library branch near you for a display case or something of that nature and go have a chat with the branch manager to see if you can display some of your work in there some time. Of course, bring along some pictures of your work and keep everything you intend to display relevant to each other. I got to display as soon as I asked, and it may not happen as soon as that, but you don't know until you ask.

I just thought I would let you all know that one of my ceramics professors is having an exhibition at the Xen Gallery from Dec. 2 til Jan. 8. His name is Dan Barnett and he works in ceramic vessels and steel furniture. There will be an artist reception and gallery walk Dec. 2, from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. I love his work and I thoroughly recommend seeing his work.
