Final Fantasy IV (known as Final Fantasy II when first released in the US) is the fourth game in the Final Fantasy series. The plot follows the quest of Cecil, as he seeks to recover the magic crystals in order to save the world from the evil that seeks to destroy it. It was first released on the SNES in 1991. Critics complained that the poor translation of the English SNES version coupled with the less challenging gameplay made it inferior to the Japanese original.
It has since been re-released in the PlayStation compilations Final Fantasy Chronicles and Final Fantasy Collection, on the Game Boy Advance as Final Fantasy IV Advance, and on the PSP as Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection. A Nintendo DS remake has also been released, featuring 3D graphics and additional content.

Final Fantasy IV (Called Final Fantasy II during initial internation release) follows similar gameplay dynamics to that of its predecessors, such as Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II. It follows a wide and constantly shifting cast of characters as they venture around Earth in pursuit of Golbez, progressing the story by completing various quests. This entry's notable for introducing several genre staples, such as the Active Time Battle system, and balanced experience distribution; Allowing for far less grinding, and an overall much more accessible experience.
The game was received extremely well, with it selling about 200,000 cartridges in Japan on the first day. Although it was criticized for its localization, it was still considered a standard for RPGs on the SNES during its early days, and often heralded as one of the greatest RPGs of the time.
