What is Subnautica 2?

Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set in a mysterious alien world, developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment.

Players can explore this world alone or with friends in co-op for up to 4 players, building highly customizable and modular bases from where to continue developing their tools and technology.

Gameplay Elements

This exploration adventure presents players with a vast underwater world to explore and make their own, but not without having to face numerous perils to achieve this goal. Brave the unknown by yourself or with a group of friends, and force the planet to yield to you its valuable resources that you will then use in your favor as you dominate it.

Exploration - The heart of the experience. Submerse yourself into the waters of this mysterious alien world and discover what lies within, instead of waiting for whatever is out there to do the same and find you first.

Craft to Survive - Innovation is the name of the game. As you explore the world in front of you, you will find more and more resources that you can learn how to apply and use in your favor to improve your chances at survival. 

Lone Explorer or Team Effort - The game is said to have been crafted primarily as a single-player experience, but the developers recognize some players may want to approach it as a team with their friends, so you can do it either way!

Face the Unknown - The ocean (even on our own earth) has always been the source of countless imagined monsters. Subnautica 2 capitalizes on this primal sensation, on the fear of the vast and unknown depths of the water to craft some terrifying and imposing sea creatures.

Submautica 2 has been released in the Early Access format for PC and Xbox Series X & S platforms on May 14, 2026.

Setting, World & Exploration

Subnautica 2 is set in an Alien world where the players are stranded. This world, besides being alien, is made up of mostly water, so all exploration must be done underwater. This creates a unique setting where players are forced to carefully manage their resources and plan out their expeditions and crafting intentions to make the most out of whatever resources they find.

What is Subnautica 2?

Yes, although some zones are harder to reach or explore without upgraded equipment, meaning that while the player is technically free to roam the world as they see fit, their crafting level and capabilities can make that roaming easier.

The game is currently available in Early Access on PC and Xbox Series X & S.
