Add a Custom Choice option to your ad blocking recovery messages
A Custom Choice message allows you to offer ad blocker users the choice to either allow ads on your site or select a custom option that you implement.

You can offer ad blocker users the option to allow ads on your site or buy a subscription to your site.
Implement a Custom Choice option in an ad blocking recovery message:
- Implement the Google Privacy & Messaging API function.
- Before publishing your custom choice message, implement
googlefc.controlledMessagingFunction. - Place the function between the
<head>and</head>tags in your site’s HTML code.Note: This function is required, and helps ensure that users who comply with the terms of the custom choice don't repeatedly view the message on future visits.

- Set the "Custom choice" toggle "On."
When you create an ad blocking recovery message, under "User choices," set the "Custom choice" toggle "On."
This setting offers users an alternative solution of your choosing (for example, buying a subscription to your site).
- Set up your ad blocking recovery message:
- Next to "Your sites," click 👁 Edit
to edit or select "Add custom choice URL." Select the sites or subsites your message should target. - Enter the URL in the "Custom choice URL" field.
This is the URL to which the button should link.
ExampleThis could be your subscription's URL sign-up page. - Enter a URL in the "Footer URL" field.
ExampleThe URL could take your users to a page verifying they're already a subscriber.
- (Optional) Edit your custom choice button text.
- (Optional) Edit the "Already a subscriber" footer text link. This link is for users who have already complied with the custom choice.
- Next to "Your sites," click 👁 Edit
