Manage legitimate interest settings

You can choose how legitimate interest controls are displayed to visitors when they view your European regulations messages.

You can decide:

• Whether to display the legitimate interest controls to visitors.
• Whether legitimate interest defaults to on or off.

To adjust the legitimate control settings on your European regulations messages:

1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
2. Click Privacy & messaging.
3. On the European regulations message type card, click 👁 Settings
   .
4. Adjust the "Legitimate interest controls" settings as needed.
   • Check the checkbox to display the legitimate interest controls in your European regulations messages.
     Tip: All options will be turned on by default unless the "Enable by default" checkbox is unchecked.
   • Uncheck the checkbox to remove the legitimate interest controls from your European regulations messages.
     Tip: If the "Legitimate interest controls" checkbox is unchecked, all of your ad partners will be required to use consent as a legal basis for all eligible purposes. Partners relying only on legitimate interest for any purposes will not be able to operate for those purposes. This may result in significantly reduced ad revenue.
5. Adjust the "Enable by default" setting as needed.
   • Check the checkbox if you want all of the options for legitimate interest to be turned on by default when a visitor views the message.
   • Uncheck the checkbox if you want all of the options for legitimate interest to be turned off by default when a visitor views the message.
     Tip: Visitors who click "Manage options" on the first page of the message will need to manually select the legitimate interest options for which they want to opt in. If the user decides to consent on the first page of the message, all legitimate interest options will be turned on automatically.
6. Click Save.

   Tips:

   • All European regulation messages shown to first-time visitors will use the updated settings.
   • In the dialog that appears, click Re-prompt if you want to ask visitors who previously consented to make new selections based on the updated settings. If you choose not to re-prompt returning visitors, their previous selections will continue to be used.
