Safety Recall of Ionic Smartwatches

CONSUMER NOTICE

We announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic end-user consumers.

This recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you own a Fitbit Ionic, please stop using your device.

To apply for your refund, visit our refund registration page to begin the refund process. After you complete the registration process, your registration will be reviewed if you are eligible for the refund.

If you are eligible for a refund, it’ll be issued by Google’s third-party vendor.

You can find the model number FB503 on the back of Ionic, under the “CE” mark and above the clasp.

To check which device is connected to your Fitbit account:

  1. Tap the Today tab 👁 Image
     👁 and then
    your profile picture.
  2. On the "Account" page, review the devices connected to your account.

Ionic users, including inactive users, who have purchased their device prior to the recall announcement and are in possession of the device, may be eligible for a refund. For further information on how to receive a refund, visit our refund registration page.
Visit the Google Store or your local Fitbit retailer, where you can find details of the range of Fitbit trackers and smartwatches in order to make your own choice from the various options available. You can also take our quiz to find the best product for you!
Erase the device to remove apps, stored data, personal information, credit and debit cards. For instructions, visit How do I erase my Fitbit device?
Your Fitbit data remains associated with your Fitbit account. After we disable device syncing, new data from your device will no longer sync to your account. If you want to delete your Fitbit account, visit How do I delete my Fitbit account?

Despite all our efforts, a small number of people may experience a reaction to certain materials. This reaction is typically due to eczema, allergies, or other skin sensitivities, which can become worse when irritants like sweat or soap get trapped beneath the band and irritate the skin. This recall is not related to skin irritation. If you have a Fitbit device and are experiencing skin irritation, review our Wear & Care instructions. Should your skin irritation not resolve, contact us.
