Connect your Google apps to personalize your Gemini experience

You can get personalized Gemini experiences that are uniquely helpful to you using Personal Intelligence. When you connect Google apps that work with Personal Intelligence, Gemini can:

  • Personalize your experience with insights about you, your relationships, and people in your world.
  • Do things for you, like make recommendations based on your preferences, or create a tailored itinerary.
  • Find and summarize information from these apps. For example, you can ask “What did I search for last month?”
  • Get content from Gmail and Google Photos, like photos from your last vacation.

You can control which apps are connected at any time from your Connected Apps settings.

Important: Personal Intelligence is being released gradually and may not be available to you just yet.

What you need

To get Gemini with Personal Intelligence, you need to:

  • Be 18 or over.
  • Sign in with a personal Google Account. This feature isn’t available when you sign in to a work, school, or supervised Google Account. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
  • Have Keep Activity on. This feature isn’t available when this setting is off.

To get personalized Gemini experiences based on your data in other Google apps:

Important: For now, this feature is:

  • Not available in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
  • Only available in the Gemini mobile app, the Gemini web app at gemini.google.com, Gemini in Chrome (in countries where Gemini in Chrome is available), and Gemini on your smartwatch.
  • Not available in certain features, like Gems or Live chats.

Connect your Google apps

  1. On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app 👁 Image
    or go to gemini.google.com.
  2. If you’re eligible, a card will show where you can opt in to Personal Intelligence in Gemini.
  3. Tap Get started.
  4. Choose which apps to connect to Gemini.
    • To connect all available apps, tap Connect all.
    • To choose which apps to connect, tap Choose apps.
    • Or tap Don’t connect.
  5. Follow any on-screen instructions.

For now, only the following Google apps work with Personal Intelligence in Gemini:

  • Contacts, which includes contacts data from Google Contacts and your device, and insights derived from them.
  • Google Photos (in certain countries and territories), which includes your photos and videos, and insights derived from these.
  • Google Workspace, which includes your content in services like Gmail, Calendar, and Drive. Learn more about the services included.
  • Search services, which includes your saved data in services like Search, Maps, and Shopping. Learn more about the services included.
  • YouTube, which includes your YouTube History.

Turn off Personal Intelligence for a chat

Important: We're gradually releasing this feature, so it might not be available to you just yet.

If you don’t want a specific Gemini chat to be personalized using Personal Intelligence, you can turn it off. When it’s off, your chat won’t be personalized based on the memory of your Gemini chats, instructions for Gemini, or info from Connected Apps.

  1. In the text box, tap Tools 👁 Image
    .
  2. Turn Personal Intelligence off.
    • If you turn off Personal Intelligence during your chat, Gemini can still use earlier parts of that chat as context.
    • Gemini remembers your setting choice for this chat. It’ll be the same if you leave the chat and continue it later.
    • If you start a new chat, Personal Intelligence is on by default.

Tips:

  • To regenerate a personalized response without personalization, you can also select Try without personalization.
  • If you turn off Personal Intelligence, it doesn’t stop your chat from being saved to Gemini Apps Activity and used to personalize a response in another chat. To chat without saving activity to your Google Account, use a temporary chat. Learn how to start a temporary chat.

Manage your Connected Apps

Important:

You can change the apps that personalize your Gemini Apps experiences in your Connected Apps settings at any time.

  1. On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app 👁 Image
    .
  2. At the left, tap Menu 👁 Menu
     👁 and then
your Profile picture or initial 👁 and then
    Personal Intelligence 👁 and then
    Connected Apps.
  3. Disconnect or connect Contacts, Google Photos (if available), Google Workspace, Search services, or YouTube.
  4. Follow any on-screen instructions.

Tip: Gemini Apps can still use public information from certain Google services, like Google Search and YouTube, even if the app is disconnected for Personal Intelligence. Learn more about the Google services Gemini uses public info from.

  1. On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
  2. At the top, tap Menu 👁 Menu
    👁 and then
    Settings & help 👁 Image
    👁 and then
    Personal Intelligence 👁 and then
    Connected Apps.

Delete something Gemini knows about you from a connected app

If you want to delete something that Gemini remembered about you:

  1. Delete all chats with this info from Gemini Apps Activity or Recent chats. Learn how to manage your Gemini Apps Activity and delete a chat from Recent chats.
  2. Disconnect the app with this info, so Gemini doesn’t use it again. Learn how to manage your Connected Apps.

You must complete both steps because:

  • If you only disconnect the app, Gemini might still use the info if it’s in a past chat.
  • If you only delete the chats, Gemini might still find the info in the connected app.

What happens when you delete data from a connected app

If you delete or update data in a connected app, like an email from Gmail or photo from Google Photos, your experience in Gemini may not be affected until days later.

How Personal Intelligence improves your Connected Apps experience

Before, Gemini was great at finding info from your apps. With Personal Intelligence:

  • Gemini has access to your data from more Connected Apps like Contacts, Google Workspace, Google Photos (if available), Search services, and YouTube.
  • Gemini can connect and understand your info across Connected Apps.

This allows Gemini to:

  • Handle complex, multi-step requests across those apps.
  • Understand the context and how your info across those apps are related.
  • Provide more personalized responses based on your info from Connected Apps.

Fix a problem

If you’ve previously connected the Google Workspace app or the Google Photos app, your settings have been reset with the launch of Personal Intelligence with Connected Apps. If you want, you can reconnect those apps with Personal Intelligence.

To correct what Gemini knows about you and uses in a response:

  1. Make sure that Memory is turned on. Learn how to turn Memory on or off.
  2. Correct Gemini directly in your chat.

While Gemini continues to improve, it might not always get it right.

If you’re eligible for Personal Intelligence in Gemini but your personalized experience is different across Gemini Apps, make sure you’re signed in to the same personal Google Account across your Gemini Apps. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.

Important: Personal Intelligence is being released gradually and may not be available to you just yet.

If you meet the eligibility criteria but don’t get the option to opt in to Personal Intelligence, try connecting the Google Workspace and Google Photos apps (if available) in Connected Apps settings. You may have additional steps to set up and connect those apps.

If you don’t want to get personalization based on your content and info in these apps, you can disconnect them at any time in your Connected Apps settings.
