Stop multiple devices from responding to "Hey Google"
Multiple devices might turn on when you say βHey Googleβ near two or more voice assistant-enabled devices. Only one of the devices should respond.
Google selects the best device to respond to based on various factors, such as:
- Proximity of the device
- Type of request
- Capabilities of the device
Update your Google app version
- On your phone or tablet, open the Google app π Search Icon
. - At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
- Tap Settings π Image
π and then
About. - Check the version number.
- Android phone or tablet: If your version is below 6.5, update on the Google app page.
- iPhone or iPad: If your version is below 20.3, update on the Google app page in the App Store.
Add the same account to both devices
Important: If the phone that responds isn't yours, then these steps wonβt fix the issue.
If you have multiple Google Accounts, add the account you used to set up Google Home to your phone or tablet.
Check the account linked to your speaker or display
- Open the Google Home app π Google Home app
. - Tap Home π Image
π and then
All devices π Image
, then touch and hold your device's tile. - Tap Settings π Image
π and then
Recognition & sharing. - Tap Linked account(s).
- Check the Google Accounts linked to this specific device.
Add the account to your phone or tablet
- Open the Google Home app π Google Home app
. - At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
- Tap the drop down π Image
π and then
Add another account. - To add your account, follow the steps.
- After you add the account, you donβt need to stay signed in.
