Stop multiple devices from responding to "Hey Google"

Multiple devices might turn on when you say β€œHey Google” near two or more voice assistant-enabled devices. Only one of the devices should respond.

Google selects the best device to respond to based on various factors, such as:

  • Proximity of the device
  • Type of request
  • Capabilities of the device

Update your Google app version

  1. On your phone or tablet, open the Google app πŸ‘ Search Icon
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Tap Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    About.
  4. Check the version number.

Add the same account to both devices

Important: If the phone that responds isn't yours, then these steps won’t fix the issue.

If you have multiple Google Accounts, add the account you used to set up Google Home to your phone or tablet.

Check the account linked to your speaker or display

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Google Home app
    .
  2. Tap Home πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    All devices πŸ‘ Image
    , then touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Recognition & sharing.
  4. Tap Linked account(s).
  5. Check the Google Accounts linked to this specific device.

Add the account to your phone or tablet

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Google Home app
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Tap the drop down πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Add another account.
  4. To add your account, follow the steps.
    • After you add the account, you don’t need to stay signed in.
