Add a parent to your family group
If you're the family manager, you can add a parent to your family group.
Add or remove another parent
To add someone as a parent in your family group, they need to be 18 or older and be in your family group.
- Go to g.co/YourFamily.
- Select the family member you want.
- Select Give parental permissions or Remove parental permissions 👁 and then
Confirm.
- Open the Google Play Store app 👁 Google Play
. - At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Settings 👁 and then
Family 👁 and then
Manage family members. - Tap Manage parent privileges.
- Choose someone to add or remove as a parent.
- Tap Confirm.
- An email notification is sent when parent privileges are changed.
- Open the Family Link app 👁 Family Link
. - At the top left, tap your child’s profile 👁 and then
Manage Family. - Select someone to add or remove as a parent.
- Tap Remove or Add parent privileges 👁 and then
Confirm.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google One app 👁 Google One
. - Tap Menu 👁 and then
Settings. - Tap Manage family settings 👁 and then
Manage family group. - Select the family member you want.
- Tap Give parental permissions or Remove parental permissions 👁 and then
Confirm.
If the family manager added you as a parent, you can remove your parent privileges. Family managers can’t remove themselves from a family without deleting the family.
- Go to g.co/YourFamily.
- Select your name.
- Select Remove parental permissions 👁 and then
Remove.
- Open the Play Store app 👁 Google Play
. - At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Manage your Google Account 👁 and then
Family - Choose the parent whose privileges you want to remove.
- Tap Remove parental permissions.
- Open the Family Link app 👁 Family Link
. - At the top left, tap your child’s profile 👁 and then
Manage Family. - Select someone to remove as a parent.
- Tap Remove parental permissions 👁 and then
Confirm.
Parent privileges
Parents have most of the privileges the family manager has, which include these privileges:
- Create child accounts.
- Upgrade child accounts.
- Delete child accounts.
- Start supervision of child accounts.
- Stop supervision of child accounts.
- Upgrade a pre-existing Google Account to a supervised child account.
- Can leave or be removed from the family group without consequences to the accounts they create at any time.
- Use Family link to manage a child’s Google Account. This includes settings that manage Google activity, screen time, and location.
- Approve Google Play purchases or downloads made with the family payment method if purchase approvals are on.
- View family member purchases made with the family payment method.
- Change family members' purchase approval settings on Google Play.
- Purchase approval settings apply only to purchases made through Google Play's billing system.
Only the family manager can:
- Add or remove family members
- Add or remove a second parent
- Delete the family group
- Subscribe to family services like the Google Play Music family plan
- Add or edit the family payment method
- Recover a deleted Google Account for a child under 13 or the applicable age in your country
Adults in your family can subscribe to Google One. The Google One plan manager doesn't need to be the same person as the family manager. Learn how to add family members to your Google One membership plan.
