Turn on background data

To use the Play Store app, you'll need to turn background data on for your device. This means apps may download data for future reference or provide you with notifications even when you're not using the app. Settings are different on each version of Android. Check which version of Android you have.  

When data saver mode is on and Wi-Fi isn't available, Google Play may be affected. You can choose to let Google Play continue getting background data via cellular data in data saver mode.

  1. Open your device's Settings app 👁 Image
    .
  2. Tap Network & internet.
  3. Tap Data usage 👁 and then
    Data saver.
  4. If data saver is off, you don't have to do anything. If data saver is on, continue to step 5.
  5. Tap Unrestricted data access.
  6. Scroll down and tap the Google Play Store 👁 Google Play
    .
  7. Tap the app or service you wish to turn on.

  2. Tap Data usage 👁 and then
     Cellular data usage.
  3. Make sure you're viewing the network for which you want to view or restrict app data usage.
  4. Scroll down and tap the Google Play Store 👁 Google Play
    .
  5. Tap Background data 👁 and then
     Unrestricted data usage.
  1. Open your device's main Settings app 👁 Image
    .
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," tap Data usage.
  3. In the top right corner, tap Menu 👁 More
    .
  4. Tap the box next to "Auto-sync data."
  5. When the dialog box "Turn auto-sync data on?" appears, tap OK.
 

Note: On some devices, your background data options may be under Settings 👁 and then
 Battery & Data Manager 👁 and then
 Delivery 👁 and then
 Background data.
