Google Play services keeps your apps updated and running smoothly on Android devices.
What's Google Play services
Google Play services connects apps to other Google services, like Google Sign In and Google Maps. Google Play services isnβt the same as the Google Play Store app and it's included with Android.
Google Play services doesnβt make your battery drain faster or use too much of your mobile data plan. You canβt force stop or uninstall Google Play services. Learn about Google Play services.
Important: Google Play services are only supported on devices with Android 6.0 (API level 23) or higher. Learn how to check and update your Android version.
Fix problems with Google Play services
Step 1: Make sure Google Play services is up to date
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app π Settings
. - Tap your profile picture π and then
All services. - Under "Privacy & Security," tap System services π and then
Google Play services. - Tap Update or Install.
- If you donβt find these options, follow the steps in Step 2 and Step 3.
Step 2: Clear cache & data from Google Play services
- On your device, open the Settings app π Settings
. - Tap Apps π and then
Google Play services.- If "Google Play services isn't there," tap See all apps π and then
Google Play services.
- If "Google Play services isn't there," tap See all apps π and then
- Tap Storage & cache π and then
Clear cache. - Tap Clear storage π and then
Clear all data π and then
Delete.
Step 3: Clear the cache & data of the Play Store
This gives the app a fresh start and can help fix issues.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app π Settings
. - Tap Apps & notifications π and then
See all apps. - Scroll down and tap Google Play Store π Google Play
. - Tap Storage π and then
Clear Cache. - Tap Clear data.
- Re-open the Play Store, and try your download again.
