Understand recommendations on Google TV
Get movie and TV recommendations based on the watchlist, watch activity, and streaming services connected to your Google Account.
How recommendations work
If you're signed in to your Google Account and Web & App Activity is turned on, Google makes recommendations based on several factors, which include:
- What you add to your watchlist
- What you watched on Google TV and Android TV
- Content you purchased or rented on YouTube, Google TV, and Android TV
- Streaming services you selected
- Entertainment-related searches on Google Search or with the Google Assistant
- Specific titles you liked or disliked on Google TV, Android TV, or Google Search
- Videos you watched on YouTube
- Popular content in your region
Tips:
- You can erase your past activity and data to reset your recommendations.
- New activity can give you fresh recommendations.
- To stop personalized recommendations, you can also turn off Web & App Activity.
- Purchases or rentals may take a few days to appear on the Google My Activity page.
Reset recommendations
Delete activity on a streaming service
- On your device, open a browser.
- Go to the My Activity page.
- Search for the streaming service.
- Choose More 👁 More
👁 and then
Delete.
Delete activity on Google TV or Android TV
- On your device, open a browser.
- Go to My Activity.
- Search for Google TV or Android TV.
- Choose More 👁 More
👁 and then
Delete.
Tip: Purchases or rentals may take a few days to appear on the Google My Activity page.
Delete Watchlist history
- On your device, open a browser.
- Go to google.com/save.
- Choose Watchlist.
- At the top right, choose More 👁 More
👁 and then
Select. - Click Remove 👁 and then
Remove.
Tip: If you add something to your watchlist again, Google can use that content to give you recommendations.
Remove your streaming services
On an Android phone:
- Open Google TV 👁 Image
. - At the top, tap Menu 👁 Image
or your Profile picture or initial. - Tap Manage services.
- Deselect the services saved to your Google Account.
- Tap Done.
On a Google TV device:
- On your Google TV device, at the top, scroll to Settings.
- Select Accounts & Profiles.
- Choose your Google Account.
- Select Your Services.
- Select the saved services you want to remove from your Google Account.
Hide recommendations
When you turn on "Apps only mode" for your profile, you can hide personalized recommendations on Google TV.
Hide the YouTube "Shorts for you" row
Update your YouTube app settings to remove short-form video content and keep standard YouTube recommendations on your Google TV home screen.
Important: You must be signed into your YouTube account to update your YouTube settings.
On a Google TV device:
- From your Google TV home screen, open the YouTube app 👁 YouTube
. - In the left navigation menu, select Settings 👁 Settings
. - Select Device Recommendations.
- Toggle the setting to Off.
Turn off YouTube home screen recommendations
Use this option to turn off all YouTube recommendations on your Google TV home screen.
On a Google TV device:
- On your Google TV home screen, at the top, scroll to Settings.
- Navigate to Your Account & Profiles.
- Choose your Google Account.
- Select Your Services.
- Scroll to find YouTube in the active services list and turn it Off.
