Check your mic & camera before joining a Google Meet meeting

Before a meeting

Before you join a Google Meet meeting, you can use the green room self-check to check your appearance and audio.

1. On your computer, go to Google Meet.
2. Select the meeting that you want to join.
3. Before you join the meeting, at the bottom of your preview tile, you’ll find your peripheral devices, such as mic, speaker, and camera.
4. To change your peripheral, click the dropdown arrow and select your preferred device.
   • You can also click More options 👁 vertical menu
     at the top right of your preview tile 👁 and then
     Settings 👁 Image
     and select Audio 👁 Image
     or Video 👁 Image
     .
5. To check your audio and video, at the bottom of the preview tile:
   • To test your microphone, click Microphone 👁 Image
     and speak.
     • If the mic bar moves, your mic works.
   • To test your speaker, click Speaker 👁 Image
     👁 and then
     Test speakers 👁 Image
     .
     • If you hear a test sound, your speaker works.
   • To test your camera, click Camera 👁 Image
     .
     • If you see your video in the preview tile, your camera works.
6. When ready to join the meeting, click Join now.

You can adjust your microphone, camera, and speaker in a meeting.

Adjust your speaker & microphone

Important: When you use mismatched microphone and external speaker devices, it might cause an echo.

1. When you’re in a meeting, next to the microphone icon 👁 Image
   , click the Arrow 👁 Image
   . A pop-up displays for your audio devices.
2. To change your microphone, on the microphone 👁 Image
   ​, click the Drop down arrow 👁 Down Arrow
   .
   • If the mic bar moves, your mic works.
3. To change your speaker, on the speaker 👁 Image
   , click the Drop down arrow 👁 Down Arrow
   .
   1. To test your speaker, click Speaker 👁 Image
      👁 and then
      Test Speakers 👁 Image
      .
   2. If you hear a test sound, your speaker works.

Adjust your camera settings

• When you’re in a meeting, next to the Camera 👁 Image
  , click the arrow 👁 Image
  . A pop-up displays for your camera device.
• To change your camera, click the drop down arrow 👁 Down Arrow
  within the pop-up.
• To adjust audio and video settings, select More options 👁 vertical menu
  👁 and then
  Settings 👁 Image
  .
  1. Audio settings:
     1. In the settings panel, click Audio.
     2. Change your microphone and speakers settings.
  2. Video settings:
     1. In the settings panel, click Video.
     2. Change your video settings.
