Use Google AI to display interactive spins of your products

Products with 3D imagery have 50 percent more user engagement when compared to products with 2D images. If you're a merchant who owns 3D content, you can  on Google Search.

While many merchants already have 3D models available, we know creating these assets can be expensive and time consuming, often requiring hundreds of product photos and costly technology. With Google’s AI technology, we can now create 180 and 360-spins of products on your behalf using just a handful of still photos.

On this page

  • If you upload at least 5 high-resolution images of a product to Google Merchant Center, Google can create a 360 or 180-spin of the product. The images should include a view of the product from the front, back, left, right and top.
  • There should be a single item per image.
  • For shoes specifically, in addition to a single shoe per image, it should be of the same color, foot, and size. For example, a red left foot shoe of size 9.
  • It is best if all images are from the same photo shoot.
  • Images can be either portrait (4:3) or landscape (9:16).
Resolution Portrait (4:3) Landscape (9:16)
Minimum 693x520 450x800
Suggested 1182x888 768x1366

After these images are uploaded to Google Merchant Center or the Google Manufacturer Center, Google AI will automatically generate either a 180 or 360 spin of your product and display it on Google Search. This process may take up to 2 weeks but uploading additional images doesn’t guarantee the creation of a spin.

Note: The 360 and 180-degree spin feature is currently available to merchants in the US.

How 180 and 360-spin works

Simply upload your high-resolution images to your web server.

If you have a Google Merchant Center account:

To upload the images, use the image link [image_link] or additional image link [additional_image_link] attributes in your feed or using the Merchant API. Make sure your high-resolution images use the exact same file name and have a URL link to successfully create a 360-spin of your product. Google will automatically pick up the improved images next time we process your feed.

If your high-resolution images have new or different file names, follow the steps below:

Note: You can or submit the data source using Merchant API or by importing content from an ecommerce platform to Merchant Center.

If you don't have a Google Merchant Center account:

  • Use robots meta tags, and set the maximum image preview size to “large”: <meta name="robots" content="max-image-preview:LARGE">
  • To add high-resolution product images directly in your Google Business Profile:
    1. Locate your Business Profile on Search or Maps and then select Edit Products.
    2. Select Edit Products, then Add Product, then click Select Photo to upload your photo.
    3. Now, sign up for Merchant Center and link your Business Profile account to Merchant Center to easily share and edit more robust image details.

If you manage your Google Merchant Center account through Shopify:

  1. From your Shopify admin, upload high-resolution images in the Media section of your Products page.
  2. Save changes.
Note: Make sure you have the Google & YouTube App installed on Shopify and your Google Merchant Center account linked to your Shopify store so that your changes can be automatically updated on all Google surfaces.

What should I do if I can’t view my 180 or 360-spin asset with products within 2 weeks?

If you can’t view your 180 or 360-spin asset with your products within 2 weeks, this could be due to the images not meeting our requirements. Confirm the size, angle, and resolution of your image, then ensure that the image name and URL match the images on your web server. If all are correct, reach out to the Google Customer Support using the contact form or directly from your Merchant Center account:

  1. In your Merchant Center account, select Help icon 👁 Image
    .
  2. Select Help center and support.
  3. In the pop-up that appears, select Contact us.
Note: Uploading additional images doesn’t guarantee a spin will be created.

Can Google create gITF (3D) models from images?

No, we can't create a 3D asset (gITF) from images. We can only create either a 360 or 180-spin asset from your images of your products. You can create a 3D gITF model of your products with the help of one of our partners, including CGTrader, Epigraph, Ocavu, and VNTANA.

I want to use Google's 180 and 360-spin, but also offer a more detailed 3D model for users to explore. Is that possible?

Only 3D (glTF/glb) models allow users to view the object in their space (AR). These show attribution to the merchant that provided the 3D model.

180 and 360-spin assets don't provide “view- in- your- space” capability and are annotated with “generated by Google”.

What happens if I submit my own 3D model using the virtual_model_link? Will it replace the 180 or 360-spin generated by Google?

Yes, 3D models provided by merchants are given higher priority and will be shown, even if there is a 180 or 360-spin asset for that product.

I've opted out of spins for my products, yet I can still view them. Why is this happening?

Spins, both 180 and 360, are created and displayed for all merchants selling that product. Disabling the feature for your products doesn’t affect the display of other merchants’ offers for the same product.

Can I choose either a 180-degree or 360-degree spin for my product images?

No. You can ensure the best possible spin by uploading high-quality product images, and the platform then automatically decides the 180-degree or 360-degree output based on those inputs. The system primarily determines which assets are used based on factors like overall quality of the provided images. The best action is to supply high-quality images to increase the likelihood of the assets being chosen and effectively displayed.
