About Google Photos features for Pixel devices

Important: If you have backup turned on, your edits will sync to your Google Photos account. To use some features, you must have backup turned on. Learn how to backup photos & videos.

If you’re a Pixel user, Google Photos gives you access to additional features available just on Pixel devices. Pixel users can always use the full range of editing tools on Google Photos. Learn about other editing features.

Use Google Photos features available just on Pixel devices

Important:

  • This feature is only available on Pixel 8 and later.
  • AI Enhance is currently only available for Pixel devices in the US with your Google Account language set to English (United States).
  1. On your device, open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. Open the photo you want to edit.
  3. Tap Edit πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    AI Enhance.
    • This option uses a combination of different tools to generate multiple results.
    • You only need to choose one photo edit from the generated results.
  4. When you're finished, tap Save.

Important: This feature is available on Pixel 8 and later.

If someone blinks or looks away in your group photos, Best Take blends similar photos into one photo where everyone looks their best. You can choose your favorite facial expressions and create your own Best Take.

To edit a photo using Best Take:

  1. Open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. Open a photo from a sequence of similar photos that includes one or more people.
  3. At the bottom, tap Edit πŸ‘ Edit
    πŸ‘ and then
    Actions πŸ‘ and then
    Best Take.
  4. Tap on a face bubble to choose a different expression.
  5. When you’re satisfied, tap Done πŸ‘ Done
    .

Important: This feature isn't available on tablets. It's only available on Pixel 8 and later.

To reduce unwanted sounds or to turn up sounds from videos, you can use Audio Magic Eraser on your Pixel phone.

  1. On your Pixel phone, open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. Tap on the video you want to edit.
  3. At the bottom, tap Edit πŸ‘ Edit
    πŸ‘ and then
    Audio πŸ‘ and then
    Audio Eraser.
    • To have your phone automatically adjust the video for you: Tap Auto.
    • To manually adjust sounds:
      1. Tap a sound.
      2. Adjust the slider.
    • To adjust the volume of different speakers: Adjust the slider for each speaker.
  4. At the bottom right, tap Save copy.

Tips:

  • Before you save a video, you can test what it sounds like. On the video thumbnail, tap Play πŸ‘ Image
    .
  • Sound options depend on your video. Not all options are available at the same time.

Important:

  • This feature is only available on Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
  • This feature isn't available for images with resolution higher than 12.5 MP.

Zoom in on an existing photo to make the image more crisp and detailed.

  1. On your Pixel device, open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. Select the photo you want to edit.
  3. At the bottom, tap Edit πŸ‘ Edit
    πŸ‘ and then
    Actions πŸ‘ and then
    Zoom Enhance.
  4. Pinch out with 2 fingers to zoom in on a certain part of the photo that you’d like enhanced.
  5. Tap Crop and enhance.
    • You can also use this feature without cropping your photo first. Just simply tap Enhance details.
  6. To keep the enhanced photo, tap Save as copy.

Tip: To compare the enhanced and original images, tap and hold the photo.

Pixel Camera features which require Google Photos

Some features in the Pixel Camera app require Google Photos.

Important: This feature is only available on Pixel 10 devices.

Auto Best Take requires both Pixel Camera and Google Photos. For group photos of 2 or more faces, with a single shutter tap, Pixel Camera may intelligently capture a burst of high-quality HDR+ images. Google Photos may also automatically create a new Best Take by merging everyone’s best facial expressions into a new image, where everyone looks their best.

To use Auto Best Take, turn on Top Shot and Auto Best Take in Camera settings. Learn how to get great photo with Top Shot and Auto Best Take.

Important: This feature is only available on Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel Pro 9 XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

You can capture videos on your Pixel camera with better lighting, colors, and details. Video Boost also enables Night Sight Video. To use Video Boost, the video must be backed up in Google Photos. Learn how to use Video Boost on your Pixel phone.
