Create AI-generated soundtrack in Shorts with Dream Track
Dream Track is available in most countries outside of the European Economic Area for creators that have their YouTube device language set to English.
Users in the United States can also access Dream Track via the YouTube Create app. Learn more about the YouTube Create app.
Global audiences can use eligible soundtracks as-is to remix them into their own Shorts.
Dream Track is a suite of experimental tools that enable creators to generate unique music for their Shorts. We believe this will foster a thriving ecosystem that benefits artists, creators, and fans. Our first experiment in Shorts involved a partnership with select artists and their AI-generated artist voices. Now, creators have the option to generate soundtracks for Shorts and image posts that appear in the Shorts feed using AI.
How it works
Create a custom soundtrack for your Short
Dream Track is a Shorts Creation tool which creates an AI-generated soundtrack based on your text prompt. You can share the soundtrack with your audience and they can create their own remixes from it. The AI-generated soundtracks will have a text label indicating that they were created with Dream Track.
YouTube app
- Open the YouTube app 👁 Image
. - Tap Create 👁 Image
. - At the bottom, tap Short or Post. If you choose Post, select an image now.
- At the top, tap Add sound 👁 Image
👁 and then
Create Music 👁 Image
. - Select an artist or style and describe a song you would like to generate.
- Note: You can enter text prompts in English. Prompts are limited to 50-characters and are subject to several safety features.
- Tap Create. You can preview the song and the lyrics.
- Tap Next 👁 Image
. For Shorts, you can record a video to go with it and then use the editor screen where you can add text, filters, and more. - Tap Next. Add details to your video or post, such as description and the privacy settings.
- Tap Upload Short or Post to publish.

- Open the Create app.
- Tap Create 👁 Image
. - Select and import a photo or video you would like to use.
- On the bottom left, tap down 👁 Image
to change the menu. - Tap Sound 👁 Image
👁 and then
Generated Soundtracks 👁 and then
Generate Soundtrack. - Describe a song you would like to generate
- Note: You can enter text prompts in English. Prompts are limited to 85 characters and subject to several safety features.
- Once you’re finished creating your soundtrack, export and then upload your content to YouTube.
