Create and manage asset labels

These features are only available to partners who use YouTube Studio Content Manager.
Asset labels let you organize your assets into custom categories, which makes it easier to:
  • Search for the asset youโ€™re looking for
  • Update all assets with a particular label applied
  • Create campaigns for all assets with a particular label applied
  • Analyze asset performance
Note: You can apply up to 30 labels per asset. You can have a maximum of 25,000 labels per Content Manager. Learn how to delete asset labels to stay under these limits.

To view a list of your existing labels and the assets that have these labels applied:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Asset labels ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. Click an asset label to view a list of assets that have that label applied.
    • You can also click Claimed Videos ๐Ÿ‘ Image
       or Campaigns ๐Ÿ‘ Image
to view a list of claimed videos or campaigns that use that asset label.

To export a .CSV spreadsheet with info about your asset labels, such as number of assets, claims, and campaigns associated with each label:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Asset labels ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. Check the box next to each asset label you want to export info about.
    • To select all assets on a single page, check the "Select all" box at the top.
    • To select all assets on all pages, check the "Select All" box at the top, then click โ€œSelect all matchingโ€.
  4. Click Export ๐Ÿ‘ Image
     ๐Ÿ‘ and then
     Comma-separated values (.CSV).
    • The file will begin processing. You can navigate away from this page or perform other bulk actions while the file is processing.
  5. When the file is done processing, click DOWNLOAD from the top banner.

To create new asset labels and apply them to your assets:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Assets ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  3. Check the box next to each asset you want to apply the new label to.
    • To select all assets on a single page, check the "Select all" box at the top.
    • To select all assets on all pages, check the "Select All" box at the top, then click โ€œSelect all matchingโ€.
  4. From the top banner, click Update asset labels ๐Ÿ‘ Image
    .
  5. Enter the name of your new asset label.
    • If you donโ€™t already have a label with that name, the name will have โ€œ(create new)โ€ next to it. It wonโ€™t have โ€œ(create new)โ€ if the label already exists.
    • Label names can include spaces. They cannot include angled brackets, commas, colons, ampersands, percent signs, or the pipe character โ€œ|โ€.
    • For tips on creating clear and specific label names, go to our best practices for asset labels.
  6. Check the box next to your new asset label ๐Ÿ‘ and then
     ADD.
For partners who use the Manual Claiming Tool, asset labels can also be created and applied when creating assets in the Manual Claiming Tool.
