Discover new music with Samples
HOW TO: Use the Samples feature in the YouTube Music app
Samples are a new experience in the YouTube Music app that makes music discovery fun, effortless, and immersive. Browse the Samples tab to find an endless, personalized stream of short music video segments—from new releases to old favorites. In addition to the personalized feed, you can now preview any playlist, album, artist, or mix page with Samples before committing to a full watch or listen.
With Samples, you can:
- Explore new music
- Save songs to your library or to playlists
- Share with friends
- Go to full videos
- Find related videos that use the song
To find samples in the YouTube Music app, tap Samples 👁 Image
in the bottom menu or locate the Samples entry point on any artist, album, playlist, or mix page.
Discover new music with Samples
To find Samples in the YouTube Music app:
- Tap Samples 👁 Image
in the bottom menu. - Navigate to an Artist, Album, Playlist, or Mix page and tap the Samples icon 👁 Image
to preview the collection.
Once in the Samples experience:
- To start or pause a sample, tap directly on it.
- To advance to the next sample, swipe down.
- To return to the previous sample, swipe up.
Save a song to your likes or playlists
Sign up for release notifications in Shorts
Some music preview pages in Shorts may have the option to get notifications when the full-length song is available.
To get release notifications in Shorts, tap Notify me 👁 Image
from an eligible sound or Shorts preview page. On the day of the release, tap on the notification to start listening to the release or album track.
View Shorts that used this song
Spark your own creativity by viewing Shorts that feature sampled songs. From the Samples feed, click Shorts 👁 Image
on the right side of the screen. You’ll be redirected to the YouTube app to view Shorts created by other users.
To make your own Short featuring the song, tap 👁 Image
Use this sound to begin creating.
Share samples with friends
You can share Samples you like with your friends using a link or post it to social media.
To share a Sample:
- Open the YouTube Music app 👁 YouTube music app icon
. - At the bottom of your screen, tap Samples 👁 Image
. - Scroll through Samples until you find the Sample you want to share.
- Tap Share 👁 Image
on the right side of the screen. - Share the Sample on your preferred platform, or copy the link for later use.
View the full video
. The full video will begin playing within the YouTube Music app.
Comment on Samples
You can share your thoughts or view opinion of others by using Comments 👁 Image
on Samples.
To comment in a Sample:
- Go to the Samples 👁 Image
tab in the YouTube Music app. - Scroll and choose the sample where you want to comment.
- Tap Comments 👁 Image
. - Tap Add a comment… 👁 and then
Send 👁 Image
