  1. since firefox 35, users going trough the ask-a-question flow don't need to install an extension anymore in order to submit their information from about:support, instead they can just click on a "share data" button. unfortunately "modified preferences" are no longer included as long as bug 1091944 is addressed...

  2. I obviously have not got metrics, but it feels like a lot of users failed to use the troubleshooting addon anyhow. Possibly because we scare them off with the warning about an untrusted addon.

    That is of course a long-standing (bug 646602) issue which again must be damaging for use of addons for other purposes. We get used to it but it must put off many Firefox users that download from AMO it certainly looks bad to have an official site linked from the UI then issue a security warning about it.

    You're right. I checked it out here: /questions/1041883 Test question

    If we want to see modified preferences, we'll have to ask for it ourselves (we can use Get troubleshooting information in the support forum "Common responses" tool).

  4. When I want to see the users system details, I send this;

    Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page, do a right click in the box and select Paste. This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.

    Instead of a warning, just add the last line above.

    Hey all! Yes, we are aware that preferences aren't included in the payload currently. Once the referenced bug is resolved, this will start working. I don't have an ETA but hopefully it will be solved soon and we can uplift to get this to users quickly.

    As it is, we still get lots of valuable information in the payload, and some data is better than none ;) Please let us know if you see any other issues.

    As for the metrics side, once we have enough data (probably a full 6 week cycle should be enough) we will see how this compared to the add-on (which already significantly increased the number of users giving us data) and what we can improve. Feedback welcome of course! :)

  6. Both bugs are still new and unasigned. Is there any suggestion as to whether and when these will be worked on ?

    Does sumo need any other workaround ?

    Checking on stage

    It would appear that posting questions without using the add-on not only does not post prefs it does not post details of extensions. Why is that ?

    That open bug depends on bug 1091942 which is still unresolved and unassigned.
