Firefox keeps your privacy while navigating on the web, so you can have peace of mind while private browsing. You can use Biometric Authentication Methods like face recognition, your fingerprint, or PIN to lock the tabs on your private browsing mode.

Enable biometric authentication
To enable the biometric authentication on your private browsing, follow these steps.
- Open the Firefox browser on your device.
- Tap the mask icon ๐ maskfirefox
to add a private tab. - A pop-up will appear asking if you want to lock your private browsing; select Lock tabs.
- Note: If you donโt have a screen lock authentication method (face recognition, fingerprint, PIN), you will be prompted to set up Screen Lock in your deviceโs settings.
- ๐ privatebrowsing
- Authenticate with your fingerprint or PIN to confirm.
- You will be directed to the Private browsing settings. Turn on Use screen lock to hide tabs in private browsing to turn this feature on.
- Go back to your private session. Now, every time you change from regular tabs to private tabs, you will be required to authenticate.
Enable biometric authentication manually
- Navigate to your Firefox settings and select Private browsing.
- Tap the toggle next to Use screen lock to hide tabs in private browsing to turn it on ๐ enabler
.- Note: If you donโt have a screen lock authentication method (face recognition, fingerprint, PIN), the Use screen lock to hide tabs in private browsing option will be grayed out. You can set up Screen Lock on your deviceโs settings by selecting the Set up Screen Lock to hide tabs option.
- ๐ privatescreen
- Go back to your private session. Now, every time you change from regular tabs to private tabs, youโll be required to authenticate.
