Firefox for Android lets you quickly summarize long webpages, such as articles, guides, reviews and recipes. This feature uses AI to highlight key points so you can get the main ideas faster.

Check device and page requirements
Before you start, make sure your device and page are supported:
- Supported devices
- Page summaries are available on Firefox for Android.
- Supported AI models
- Summaries will be created using Mistral Small 3.1, a Firefox AI cloud-based solution.
Understand what content can be summarized
You can summarize webpages that are readable in Reader View and within supported length limits of less than 5000 words. Examples include:
- News articles
- How-to guides
- Reviews
- Recipes
- Research articles
- Opinion pieces
The feature is available worldwide but only for English-based webpages.
Enable and disable page summaries
Page summaries are turned on by default, and Firefox will ask you to opt in if you shake your phone. However, you can turn it off and on whenever you want:
- Open Firefox for Android.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Page summaries.
- To enable/disable:
- Toggle Summarize pages on or off
- Toggle Shake to summarize on or off
Summarize a webpage
You can summarize pages using the address bar or the page menu.
Summarize from the page menu
- Open a supported webpage.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap Summarize page.
- Wait for the summary to appear.
Adjust gestures for page summaries
You can turn summaries on or off in settings.
- Open Firefox for Android.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Customize.
- Scroll down to gestures.
- Toggle Shake to summarize on or off

Frequently asked questions
Can I trust the summaries?
Summaries use AI and may not always be accurate. Always check important details against the original page.
Can I summarize paywalled content?
Only the visible content on the page can be summarized. Content behind a paywall is not included.
Is it available in Private Mode?
For now, no. You cannot summarize webpages in private mode.
What languages are supported?
Summaries are currently only supported in English.
Who can see what Iβm summarizing?
Firefox uses a privacy-focused approach:
- Page content may be processed using Mozilla-hosted services.
- The summary is sent directly back to your device.
- Data handling follows Mozillaβs privacy standards.
