New Relic Takes on AIOps
In this week’s episode of The New Stack Context podcast, we talk about New Relic’s growth into AIops with its recent acquisition of SignifAI. Aaron Johnson, senior vice president of product management at New Relic and Guy Fighel, co-founder and former chief technology officer of SignifAI and now the general manager for AIOps and vice president of product engineering at New Relic both shared their vision behind the acquisition and how machine learning can be used to monitor and troubleshoot complex IT systems.
Then later in the show we discuss how to get rid of technology debt. Is the answer to stop using open source libraries and frameworks? Robert Lefkowitz, the recently retired Chief Architect of eyewear provider Warby Parker, is advocating that approach, and we’ll delve into his talk at the O’Reilly Software Architecture conference, held last week in New York

- WhiteSource: Open Source Security Management for Containers: Chances are, you’re using an open source library. One recent survey reports that 92 percent of applications use at least one open source library. Another survey puts that number even higher, at 96 percent. WhiteSource, a continuous open source security and license compliance management tool, was created seven years ago to handle this problem and this week is bringing its continuous monitoring functionality to containerized applications and the images that comprise them. It does this by way of a “Kubernetes agent that runs silently in the background as a pod in the production cluster, automatically scanning any image deployed to production in new pods,” also monitoring container images stored in Docker Hub, Amazon ECR, Azure Container Registry, and JFrog Artifactory.
- Datadog Goes Full-Stack with Front-End Web Tester Madumbo Acquisition: Infrastructure and application monitoring service Datadog has acquired the AI-powered website-testing tool Madumbo in a move that Madumbo CEO Gabriel-James Safar explains as the first step in expanding Datadog’s full-stack monitoring capabilities. Datadog’s acquisition of Madumbo will be its third, with the last coming in 2017 when the company snapped up another French company, log-management company Logimatic.io.
