Red Element Heroes

    Ryu

Game of Origin: Street Fighter I

"I won't let the Satsui no Hadou consume me!"
Voiced by: Kyle Hebert (English), Hiroki Takahashi (Japanese)
Ryu continues to resist. He will not succumb to any threat. Not from opponents. Not from the world. And not from within.

Wandering the Earth in order to grow stronger, Ryu is a master of the Ansatsuken art of fighting, facing opponents with nothing but his fists and unbending will. His true desire is to hone his skills and find the true meaning of being a warrior.

After giving in to its power and fighting his friend Chun-Li, Ryu travels to the Land of Illusion in order to conquer the corrupting power of the Satsui no Hado.
  • Adaptational Costume Change: A lesser example compared to X or Zero, but Ryu's design closely resembles his alternate costume 1 from Street Fighter IV, but with the top half of the gi being worn like a shawl rather than around his waist. His gloves are also patterned to resemble the scales of a Rathalos, rather than his traditional ones.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: While mostly a calm person who keeps to himself, Ryu is still one of the worlds most skilled martial artists and will not back down from a fight.
  • Blood Knight: Evil Ryu is just as bad as Akuma, minus his code of honour.
Evil Ryu: Violence is who I am!
  • Determinator: Regardless of the situation, regardless of the odds, Ryu will keep fighting.
Ryu: You cannot defeat one that will never stop.
  • Don't Think, Feel: As a master martial artist, Ryu fights through instinct, with it being his associated virtue in "A Dark Agenda."
  • Fire Is Red: As one of the original red element heroes, Ryu is closely associated with fire, mainly through the Hadoken.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Naturally, the Hadoken, which acts as his first hero art in Shinku Hadoken, dealing 8 damage to a target enemy unit. Becomes Metsu Hadoken with the Evil Ryu skin.
  • Magic Enhancement: His second hero art Denjin Renki, has Ryu focus his power, increasing the damage dealing effects of action and unit cards in his hand, EX pocket, and on the battlefield by +1. Becomes Torrent of Hado with the evil Ryu skin.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: His "Evil Ryu" skin has dark skin, red eyes and hair, and a black gi, just like Akuma.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: His scarf is actually a part of his torn gi.
  • Shirtless Scene: His design mixes elements from his classic and battle damaged looks, with most of his go being torn.
  • Shoryuken: In the form of the Metsu Shoryuken for his final hero art, granting a friendly unit the ability <Combo>. Becomes Messatsu Goshoryu with the Evil Ryu skin.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: His "Evil Ryu" skin has Ryu unleash the power of the Satsui no Hado, becoming consumed with the desire to fight and kill. The skin is the same as normal Ryu.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Blazing, Ardent Heroes (THANKS 001).
Ryu: I will keep fighting to learn true strength. To you, my companion on this journey... My thanks.
  • Voice of the Legion: As Evil Ryu, his voice gains a very noticeable warping effect. A nod to the Satsui no Hado within Ryu eventually becoming Kage, who also has a similar type of voice.
  • Walking the Earth: He isn't called the Wandering Warrior for nothing. He travels the world in order to improve himself as a fighter.
  • World's Strongest Man: A masterful martial artist who has won countless battles, the only person that might be strong is Akuma, who thinks Ryu still hasn't reached his full potential.
  • Worthy Opponent: Is this to Akuma, who only travels to the Land of Illusion to fight Ryu after he becomes stronger.
    Rathalos

Game of Origin: Monster Hunter (2004)

The blades that carve into its back awaken memories of rage. Seeking its nemesis, the beast heads deeper into the forest.

The legendary king of the skies, the Rathalos is a powerful wyvern that rules the air with fiery breath and claws, defeating any that challenge it.

After being attacked by Nergigante, Rathalos was stabbed in its back by Ada with a dagger given to her by the Goddess Myria. Now reawakened and stronger than ever, Rathalos travels to the Land of Illusion seeking new territory.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Many of the units that he comes with in his initial deck either have <Rush> (allows them to make a near-instant attack when deployed) or <Flight> (causes the unit to attack the enemy Hero directly).
  • Breath Weapon: Naturally, fire. His final hero art, Blazing Wall, uses this to grant an additional 2 HP, <Shield>, <Anti-Air>, and +3 damage on counter attacks.
  • Death from Above: His first hero art, Dive Attack, is naturally depicted as this. This art grants every friendly unit +2 attack and <Crush> (for 1 attack).
  • Fire Is Red: One of the two original heroes representing the Red element, and is a fire breathing wyvern. Multiple cards, such as Dragonlord's Judgement (COR 044), also portray this.
  • Mighty Roar: His second hero art, Wrath Awoken, gives a friendly unit <Flight>. If you've used 2 or 3 action cards, it will also give them +3 Attack. After 4 or more action cards, using this on a friendly unit will give them the aforementioned buffs and let them deal damage equal to their attack split among all enemy units.
  • Mythology Gag: His alternate skins are the Azure Rathalos and Silver Rathalos, variants of its species.
  • Out of Focus: Of the original 8 playable characters, Rathalos has received the fewest appearances, be it Unit Card or cameo in an Action Card. The last Unit Card it received was in "Breath of Resistance" from January of 2022, and the closest it's gotten to a proper cameo is the tip of its tail being sold for auction in "THE BEAUTIFUL 8"'s Dreadking Tail card (TB8 067).
    • Finally makes a long awaited return in the October 2025 card pack Eternal Heroes, getting both a legendary card and a prominent spot on the card pack's banner.
  • Our Wyverns Are Different: Classified as a Flying Wyvern in his home series, he has the typical two legs and two wings, along with stereotypical dragon breath.
  • Playing with Fire: His signature ability as a fire breathing dragon. The Goddess' Dagger in his back also causes it to have flames emerge from the wound, adding to his intimidating look.
  • The Power of Hate: Its unending hatred is what gives Rathalos its immense power, with it being its associated virtue in "A Dark Agenda."
  • Scars Are Forever: Has a blade that Ada lodged in his back that bursts into flames when the wyvern becomes angry.
  • Thanking the Viewer: An implied one from the Special Thanks card Blazing, Ardent Heroes (THANKS 001).
[...The pride of kings dwell in these wings that rip the gales. Fang and claw invite stillness, and the echoing roar resounds like a royal court praising a hero.]
    Jill Valentine

Game of Origin: Resident Evil 1

"Umbrella... that corrupt organisation must be stopped!"
Voiced by: Patricia Ja Lee (English), Atsuko Yuya (Japanese)
Theme: The OpeningπŸ‘ Image
(Resident Evil 3 Intro)
Whatever fresh hell the world has waiting for her, Jill won't stop until she finds the answers she seeks.

A member of Raccoon City's S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team and survivor of both the Spencer Mansion incident and Raccoon City, Jill's training and experience has kept her alive despite the best efforts of Umbrella, utilizing her ingenuity and arsenal in order to overcome the undead hordes.

Jill travels to the land of illusion in search of Wesker, pursuing him in order to bring him to justice for betraying S.T.A.R.S. to Umbrella.
  • Action Survivor: This is Jill Valentine, after all. Emphasized with her card pack's main ability, <Explore>. When a condition is fulfilled (usually often as simple as when a unit card is played or dies), another card is added to the player's EX Pocket. Jill's Ultimate Weapon explores the Rocket Launcher card, the Genesis Hero Art allows her to fill up the EX Pocket with two such ability cards at a reduced cost, while she needs three successful Explores to use her third Hero Art, Antibody Activation.
  • Badass Normal: Out of all the characters in the game, Jill is just a normal human, yet is able to go up against the likes of Rathalos and Wesker.
  • BFG: Her first hero art, Ultimate Weapon, has Jill explore for the Rocket Launcher (T009) action card, which deals 8 damage to an enemy unit, and 4 to any adjacent units.
  • Composite Character: While her appearance and characterization takes after her Resident Evil 3: Nemesis depiction, she also has the Rocket Launcher from the original Resident Evil 1 and Genesis from Resident Evil: Revelations.
  • Determinator: Regardless of her situation, Jill will not stop until she succeeds. Best illustrated when she's at a disadvantage.
Jill: Not looking good. But I'm still in it!
  • Everything Sensor: Her second hero art, Genesis, adds two explored cards to the EX Pocket and reduces their MP costs by -1.
  • Heroic Willpower: Jill, despite being a normal human, is perfectly capable of surviving any hell she's placed into. Come the "A Dark Agenda" expansion, and this becomes her associated virtue.
  • It's Personal: Her vendetta against Wesker, as he was responsible for the deaths for almost all of the S.T.A.R.S. members.
  • Magic Antidote: Jill's third hero art, Antibody Activation, grants an +1 Attack & +5 Defense boost, as well as a <Shield>, provided your Explore count is 3 or more. It's represented by Jill injecting herself with a vaccine for the T-Virus.
  • No-Sell: Her legendary card Jill, Seeker of Truth (DON 016) gains the skill <Veil> after one explore, making her immune to being specifically targeted by action cards or hero arts, though she can still be targeted by hero arts or action cards with random selection or that effect multiple targets.
  • Reluctant Warrior: A lot of her quotes make it clear that she'd rather avoid conflict, despite that being impossible.
Jill: You're just itching for a fight, huh?
  • Stuff Blowing Up: While most red heroes are associated with fire, Jill is more associated with explosives.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Blazing, Ardent Heroes (THANKS 001).
Jill: Thank you. Your trust in me gave me courage to keep fighting. The nightmare is overβ€”now we dream of hope.
    Amaterasu

Game of Origin: Ōkami

A howl of victory resounds in the heavens. With a pure, radiant beauty, she races across this mortal world, bringing peace and harmony with her. In her tail, the precious buds of life sprout.

The Sun Goddess reborn in the form of a wolf, Amaterasu is a powerful and benevolent guardian of humanity who banishes darkness and revitalizes the earth with her divine presence.

Awoken by the darkness encroaching on the land of Amatsu no Kuni, she sets out to fight the forces of the Demon King Oda Nobunaga and once again protect the people of her land.
  • Animalistic Abomination: Make no mistake, as cute and lovable as she may seem, she is still a goddess in the body of a wolf and will call on the power of the heavens if she needs to.
  • Bolt of Divine Retribution: Her second hero art Thunder Edge uses the eponymous glaive to call down a barrage of lightning that gives a select unit +1 Attack, <Agility>, and the ability to deal damage equal to that unit's attack amongst all enemies for 10 seconds.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Mainly shown in action cards with her, but Amaterasu is as goofy as she was in her home game.
  • Divine Intervention: Her first hero art is Great Divine Intervention, which gives all friendly units +2 HP and deals 3 damage to all enemy units. If any unit is defeated through this damage, <Death> abilities do not trigger. Visually, Amaterasu restores the natural balance around her.
  • Foil: To Felyne, for reasons besides Cat/Dog Dichotomy.
    • While the Felyne is one of the weakest characters in TEPPEN, Amaterasu is a literal goddess.
    • Both are faced with the Nergigante in their story, and while the Felyne is unable to protect their home from being destroyed, Amaterasu defeats and drives of the elder dragon with ease.
    • In Monster Hunter, the Felynes often play the role of the Non-Human Sidekick to the powerful Hunters, Amaterasu is the powerful warrior with a Lilliputians sidekick Issun.
  • God Is Good: Amaterasu will always put her people first and use her divine power for good.
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: Amaterasu's final hero art, Celestial Envoy's Miracle, has Issun call upon the prayers of the people to empower Amaterasu, giving her a permanent +1 Attack to all red units.
  • Light Is Good: As the Sun Goddess, all her power is associated with light in some way. For bonus points, she is a pure white wolf.
  • Noble Wolf: Being a literal goddess, Amaterasu's whole duty is defending those who call upon and pray to her.
  • Physical God: In contrast with the likes of Wesker, who believes himself to be a god, Amaterasu outright is a god, and one of the most powerful characters in the game, challenged only by Dante and Morrigan, who are ironically both purple heroes and demons.
  • Playing with Fire: As the Sun Goddess and a red hero, fire is strongly associated with her, with the reflector on her back being surrounded by flames.
  • The Power of the Sun: Obviously her main form of power.
  • Shock and Awe: The Thunder Edge as mentioned above.
  • Thanking the Viewer: Courtesy of Issun from the Special Thanks card Blazing, Ardent Heroes (THANKS 001).
Issun: When you look at this furball galloping across the land and see hope, that same light will inspire us too!
    Nina

Game of Origin: Breath of Fire III

"Come on, let's get going!"
Voiced by: Abby Trott (English), Kyoko Hikami (Japanese)
I don't need to understand everything about the Goddess, or about good and evil. I've believed in you all this time, and I'm going to keep believing in you.

Princess of Wyndia and a powerful mage, Nina is rebellious but kind girl who works alongside her friend Ryu *the Breath of Fire Ryu, not the Street Fighter Ryu despite him being a Dragon.

With the goddess Myria waging war against Dragons and Riders, Nina chooses to fight against the goddess for the greater good.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Nina's an incredibly kind and cheerful young woman, and she believes wholeheartedly in her friend Ryu no matter how bad things seem.
  • Moveset Clone: To Jill, as she is an EX skin rather than a full-fledged character, just like Phoenix Wright.
    • Ultimate Weapon will instead become Bonds of Trust, with the animation showing Nina striking the enemy with a bolt of lighting, followed by Ryu transforming into his Kaiser form. The Rocket Launcher card that normally gets spawned is replaced by Kaiser Breath (T071).
    • Genesis becomes Charm, an ability in Breath of Fire III that makes it easier for enemies to have items drop or be stolen.
    • Antibody Activation becomes Meditation, the animation showing Nina concentrating energy into her staff before spreading her wings.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Despite being a princess, Nina is more than willing to join the fight when needed.
  • Shock and Awe: Her main element, showing up in her art with cards such as Jolt (DOW 015) or Myollnir (DOW 020).
  • Winged Humanoid: Has a pair of angelic wings sprouting from her back. However, this incarnation of Nina is simply wearing a fake pair, as it is implied that the Wyndians lost their wings over the years.
    Hiryu

Game of Origin: Strider

Voiced by: T.J. Storm (English), Yuji Ueda (Japanese)

A member of the Striders, a clandestine paramilitary organization of mercenaries and assassins, little is known about Hiryu's origins before joining and becoming the youngest Strider to achieve the prestigious S-Rank. What is known beyond any shadow of a doubt is his lethality with the plasma blade "Cypher" and his perfect mission completion record. He encounters Ada Wong during her service to Myria.

  • Assist Character: Like in his games, Hiryu has the three Option robots. Besides coming to his aid in the Legion Hero Art, every Unit Card made of HiryuNoteeven the one based on Strider 2, where the Options didn't exist. has the ability to Explore for atleast one of the three Option Unit Cards, if not randomly pick one among the three, to summon it.
  • Audible Sharpness: The iconic "SCHWING!" sound that his sword makes can be heard before his Ragnarok Hero Art.
  • Blade Spam: His Ragnarok Hero Art, much like the original move, has Hiryu strikes from all angles with his sword.
  • Composite Character: Design-wise Hiryu sports his modern redesign from Strider (2014), but two of his Hero Arts are based on Hyper Combos from Marvel vs. Capcom, these being moves Hiryu has never used in the Strider series.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Hiryu's alternate universe counterpart on EDN-III is a Black element card, rather than Red. This version of him is based on the Strider 2 version of the character, which outside of having slightly less futuristic technology, is the exact same in terms of how he acts.
  • Deflector Shields: His Formation Hero Art uses the yellow circular barrier produced by Option-A in Strider (2014) to protect other units.
  • Last of His Kind: The trailer for the "A Dark Agenda" expansion states Hiryu is the sole survivor of the Striders.
  • Laser Blade: Hiryu's Cypher, a tonfa/sword hybrid which generates a blade of plasma to cut through anything.
  • Moveset Clone: To Rathalos.
    • Dive Attack becomes There is no escape... Legion!, based on his Marvel vs. Capcom hyper combo. As this is the 2014 version of Strider, the Option robots take the form of solid holograms.
    • Wrath Awoken becomes Time to end this... Ragnarok!, based on his final hyper combo from Marvel vs. Capcom, specifically the more cinematic version from Ultimate.
    • Blazing Wall becomes Try stopping this... Formation!. While players of the Marvel vs. Capcom series might better recognize this as his Ouroboros hyper combo, this is a move from the 2014 Strider game where Option A creates a yellow protective shield around him. Although the move itself was based on πŸ‘ This example contains a TRIVIA entry. It should be moved to the TRIVIA tab.
      Ouroboros anyway.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Wouldn't be Hiryu without it. TEPPEN uses the 2014 Strider reboot designs, so it's the even cooler cybernetic scarf.
  • Zerg Rush: His animation for the Legion Hero Art, where he sends several of his Option-B and Option-C robots to rush the opponent.

Green Element Heroes

    X

Game of Origin: Mega Man X1

"Why do I fight? The answer is out there somewhere."
Voiced by: Ted Sroka (English), Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese)
For what purpose was he awakened, after an eternity in stasis? This robot knows not the why, only the how.

An advanced robot with a conscience and the ability to evolve, X fights to protect humanity from anything that threatens them using his X Buster and variety of adaptive abilities.

After being awakened after a millennia of slumber and desperate to find a purpose to his creation, X travels to the Land of Illusion in search of answers.
  • The Ace: With Zero as The Lancer.
  • Adaptational Costume Change: By far the most extreme example in the game. X's design pulls elements from his classic design, his lankier Mega Man X8 design, and his Cyber-Elf design from the Mega Man Zero series, giving him things like balljoints, far thinner arms and legs, and glowing neon lights on parts of his body.
  • Adaptive Ability: His legendary unit Advanced Artifact X copies the abilities of only one unit it defeats.
  • Arm Cannon: His main form of offense. It's used in his second hero art Charge Shot to give all friendly units the ability to gain +1 Attack the first time their health is increased, as well as dealing extra damage to the enemy in front of them equal to their attack +1 for 13 seconds.
  • Healing Potion: His first hero art, Heart Tank, grants a friendly unit +7 HP, as well as gaining +4 Life himself. His legendary unit Advanced Artifact X also gives a friendly unit other than itself +5 health. His third Hero Art "'Gaea Armor'" also grants his units +3 Health, on top of <Veil> for 13 seconds.
  • Heroic BSoD: After Wesker asks how they're any different for seeking to take out a murderernoteWesker had just killed Oswell Spencer, someone he points out to X "killed others like they were nothing", and X wanting to defeat Wesker for killing Spencer, X begins to question if his actions are just.
  • Holy Halo: He has a halo on top of his head, which also reminds you of his Cyber-Elf form
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Does this to Zero to snap him out of his berserk state. While it works, if he was a second late Zero would have killed him.
  • Nice Guy: X is friendly and compassionate, and only ever gets into fights for the safety of others, and even then would rather his enemy surrender than have him just beat them.
X: Throw down your weapons and surrender.
  • No-Sell: His final hero art Gaea Armour grants all friendly units <Veil> (for 13 seconds, but with an extra +3 HP to compensate for it being temporary), preventing them from being targeted by an opponents hero arts or action cards.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Zero's red. While Zero is more composed than X, he is also more willing to fight and destroy his opponents.
  • Reluctant Warrior: Just like in his home series, X would really rather do anything but fight. However, it doesn't mean he won't when he needs to.
X: Is fighting the only answer?
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: X is such a complex piece of machinery, that it's entirely possible that he has a soul.
  • Skilled, but Naive: While X is a highly advanced robot that can go toe to toe with the likes of Zero and Dante, he's easily tricked into fighting people that he doesn't need to like Dante, or messed with by the likes of Wesker manipulating his sense of morality.
  • The Stoic: Is rather composed and rational, even in the middle of a fight.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Nobel, Questing Heroes (THANKS 002).
X: Whenever my Buster was trained on its target, you were there to follow the attack. Thank you, my faithful ally.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: X is driven to fight by his sense of duty to others, with it being his associated virtue in "A Dark Agenda."
    Chun-Li

Game of Origin: Street Fighter II

"Father! I'll put an end to their plans!"
Voiced by: Ashly Burch (English), Fumiko Orikasa (Japanese)
After the sun sets, the ghosts of the past awake. Chun-Li wanders the night, seeking a worthy enemy to defeat.

A former Interpol agent and strongest woman in the world, Chun-Li helped to fight the crime syndicate of Shadaloo for their murder of her father and now acts as a teacher of Kung-Fu in order to train other to protect the peace.

Following a series of harrowing fights, including one with a corrupted Ryu, she heads to the Land of Illusion in order to face Shadaloo once again.
  • Action Girl: Chun-Li is a masterful fighter and even trains others in how to fight.
  • Badass Adorable: While she is a master of Kung-Fu and the strongest woman in the world, she also happily flashes a peace sign whenever she wins a battle.
    Chun-Li: (Laughing) I did it!
  • Determinator: She is completely dedicated to defeating Shadaloo and ensuring peace. Come the "A Dark Agenda" expansion, and this becomes her associated virtue.
Chun-Li: I will avenge my father if it's the last thing I do!
  • I Shall Taunt You: Some of her lines her confidence in a more jabbing way, though it is far less mean spirited than Dante's taunting.
Chun-Li: Think you can dodge my kicks?
    Chun-Li: Just give up already.
  • Kick Chick: Her primary way of attacking, being showing in art for her legendary unit card and her second hero art.
  • Ki Manipulation: Mainly seen with her hero art Kikosho when she can create blasts of energy.
  • Mana Shield: Her first hero art Kikosho gives every friendly unit a <Shield>, which takes a single hit of any amount of damage.
  • Meditation Powerup: Her final hero art Yawn has Chun-Li yawn and stretch in order to gain focus, granting a unit the ability to grant +4 MP when they leave the battlefield (but only once per unit this was used on).
  • Rapid-Fire Kicks: Her second hero art Hyakuretsukyaku has Chun-Li unleash a flurry of lightning fast kicks, granting one unit +1 Attack and the ability <Heavy Pierce>.
  • Super Cop: While a former cop in this game, Chun-Li still works for the safety of others and has access to supernatural powers.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Nobel, Questing Heroes (THANKS 002).
Chun-Li: Xie xie! The time we spent together practicing our kung fu is my pride and joy. I hope we'll stay friends in the future.
    Nero

Game of Origin: Devil May Cry 4

"Woo! I'm bringing the party!"
Voiced by: Johnny Yong Bosch (English), Kaito Ishikawa (Japanese)
He was committed to his cause, and willing to employ any tool to do what must be done. So long as there were people to save, then no price β€” be it demonic or notβ€”was too high.

A hot-headed devil hunter from the island of Fortuna with the power of demons flowing through his veins. Nero operates a mobile branch of the Devil May Cry, helping Dante in his mission to protect humanity using his personalized sword and revolver, along with a variety of robotic arms designed by his mechanic Nico.

After losing his demonic right arm, Nero travels to the Land of Illusion in search of the being that stole his arm.
  • Composite Character: Downplayed, but Nero is searching for whoevernote who turns out to be his real father, Vergil took his Devil Bringer arm which he lost before the prologue of Devil May Cry 5, despite having access to his Devil Trigger, which he only got at the end of the same game.
  • Hot-Blooded: While keeping it under control most of the time, Nero has quiet the temper and can get a bit caught up in the moment.
Nero: I'm the one... with power!
  • Hot Wings: In contrast with Dante, who grows a pair of bat like wings in Devil Trigger, Nero instead sprouts a pair of spectral bird wings with clawed hands for both flight and combat.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Like Dante, he's a Devil Hunter who has demonic heritage, though it's not as intense as Dante's.
  • Humble Hero: Despite his ego and boasting, he still believes his power comes from his humanity rather than his demonic heritage, as he believes...
  • Humans Are Special: He takes great pride in his humanity.
Nero: Best thing about humans... is that we never give up.
  • Magikarp Power: His associated ability, <Growth>, works like this, with a unit with <Growth> gaining Growth Points equal to the cost of additional units played.*For example, placing a unit with an MP cost of 3 will grant 3 growth points. Once the amount of growth points is equal to the specified number, the unit levels up, resulting in a variety of effects from gaining abilities, giving other units HP, or even destroying all enemy units, with the growth cost being larger in accordance with the effect of leveling up.
  • Odd Friendship: As of Adventures of a Tiny Hero, Nero has formed this with the Felyne. The two work together in the aformentioned card pack, as well as several ones after.
  • Random Effect Spell: Nero's final hero art, Hey Nico! randomly grants one of three action cards to the EX pocket based off his Devil Breakers.
    • With Gerbera (T031): 12 damage is randomly dealt across all enemy units.
    • With Ragtime (T032): Every enemy unit is inflicted with <Halt> for 13 seconds, and takes an extra 3 damage in that timespan.
    • With Tomboy (T033): A specific unit gets 10 points spread randomly across attack and health.
  • Revenge: His main motivation for going to the land of illusion, and in the "A Dark Agenda" expansion, Nero is connected with this virtue.
  • Super Mode: His Devil Trigger is a part of both his legendary unit and his second hero art, True Power, the former being a flying unit with combo and the later instantly leveling up a unit with <Growth> or <Quest>, regardless of how many Growth Points or Quest conditions are needed to trigger a level up.
    Nero: Aw yeah! WATCH THIS!
  • Shock and Awe: His first Hero art, Devil Breaker, uses the Overture devil breaker to give a friendly unit +3 Attack, <Crush>, and <Spillover>, each for one attack. The visual being a massive hand made of electricity.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Nobel, Questing Heroes (THANKS 002).
Nero: Never a dull moment fighting side by side with you! Next time you go on an adventure, don't forget to call me!
  • Uneven Hybrid: Is three quarters human and one quarter demon.
    Felyne

Game of Origin: Monster Hunter (2004)

Vigorwasp Delivery ready! That'll fix Nero right up! Fly, Vigorwasp!

A young and curious felyne that is trained to support monster hunters in combat using a variety of skills and tools that make up for it's small size and lack of strength.

After its village is decimated by Nergigante, the Felyne joins Nero in a quest to grow stronger so he can protect people.
  • Badass Adorable: While being even weaker than Jill, a normal human, the Felyne is none the less able to stand up against an Elder Dragon like Nergigante.
  • Boisterous Weakling: Canonically, the Felyne is the weakest hero in the game, yet never backs down from a fight.
  • Cute Kitten: As a lynian, he naturally looks like an adorable bipedal cat.
  • Determinator: Despite being outmatched by most of the cast, they refuse to give up, even if they can't physically match up. Lampshaded in the Adventures of a Tiny Hero trailer.
His strength only grew! ...On the inside.
  • Foil: To Amaterasu, for reasons besides Cat/Dog Dichotomy.
  • Go Through Me: When the Nergigante attacks their home, the Felyne refuses to leave Kairasa and stands between her and the Elder Dragon even when she orders everyone to escape.
  • It's Personal: The Nergigante destroyed its home, and their quest to grow stronger is caused by its desire to make sure something like that never happens elsewhere.
  • The Power of Friendship: The felyne is only able to get so far in his journey thanks to their camaraderie with Nero, making it the heroes associated virtue.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Its first hero art, Shieldspire, grants +3 HP, reduces damage of 3 or less to 1, and makes all damage taken 1 less for 10 seconds to one unit.
  • Magical Flutist: Coral Orchestra, the Felyne's second hero art, reduces the MP cost of a single unit's tribe (or tribes) by 1, and gives those units +2 HP.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: To Nero. Makes sense, considering the role of the Palico in the Monster Hunter series.
  • Odd Friendship: After initially attacking Nero, they soon become allies as they face a variety of enemies together, showing the pair getting closer.
  • Present Tense Narrative: The entirety of the Adventures of a Tiny Hero set has its flavor text from the perspective of the Felyne.
  • Reduced Mana Cost: A variation with their legendary unit, Curious Cat Felyne, which has the ability to boost mana build up by 20% for each time it takes damage, with the ability stacking to boost MP build to an absurd degree.
  • Reused Character Design: Has the initial armor of the Palico from Monster Hunter World, but is a completely different lynian.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Nobel, Questing Heroes (THANKS 002).
Felyne: What a meowsing success! We gave that quest 120 purrcentβ€”but I'm not ready for a catnap yet!
  • Thieving Pet: Their third hero art Plunderblade has the hero take a random card from their opponents deck and adds it to your EX pocket.
    Phoenix Wright

Game of Origin: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

"Let's prove your innocence."
Voiced by: Sam Riegel (English), Takayuki Kondō (Japanese)
That's me. A young, intrepid defence attorney who's taking care of the law office left by Mia. Once again, I'm believing in the defendant and representing him in court.

Head of the "Wright Anything Agency," Phoenix Wright is an unconventional yet skilled defence attorney determined to seek justice for his clients and bring the truth, and real culprit, into the light.

After his friend Larry Butz is put on trial for the destruction of Mayor Cody's new statue, Phoenix chooses to represent him and find the crime's true culprit.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Phoenix has a tendency to go into a trial with no plan and simply defending his client by the seat of his pants, acting like a complete buffoon and using some truly absurd evidence in his cases. However, he has an eagle eye for detail and has a near perfect record, and it's completely earned.
  • Honor Before Reason: If he believes someone is innocent, he will do anything in his power to prove it, regardless of what his clients think or ask of him. He will always find the truth.
  • Indy Ploy: His general method of winning trials. Thankfully, he's very skilled at it.
  • Moveset Clone: Phoenix is a reskin of Chun-Li with all his hero art having the exact same effect as her, though with different contexts and art.
    • Kikosho becomes Attorney's Badge, with the animation showing Phoenix in court, spotting a contradiction and saying "Hold it!" as he slams his desk.
    • Hyakuretsukyaku becomes Objection!, the background even changing to resemble the close-up moments with the speed lines in Ace Attorney.
    • Yawn becomes Turnabout Sisters, where Maya channels Mia's spirit into her body to cheer Phoenix on.
Mia, through Maya: Never give up, Phoenix!
    Phoenix: M-Mia?!
    Cammy

Game of Origin: Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers

Voiced by: Caitlin Glass (English), Miyuki Sawashiro (Japanese)
Theme: Theme of CammyπŸ‘ Image
(Based on its SF5 rendition)

Originally created as a clone to serve as an assassin for M. Bison, Cammy has defied her destiny as the viscious dictator's tool. Now, as a member of MI6's elite Delta Red squadron, she puts her assassination arts to work for the betterment of all, dealing with any that would plunge the world into darkness with extreme prejudice.

  • Moveset Clone: To Nero, as she is an EX skin rather than a full-fledged character.
    • Devil Breaker becomes Cross Stinger Assault, her Critical Art from Street Fighter 5.
    • True Power becomes Delta Drive, her 1st V-Trigger from SF5 that normally enhances her Spiral Arrow, Cannon Spike, and Cannon Strike specials.
    • Hey, Nico! becomes A Promise to Keep, where Cammy reflects on her past with Decapre and how she swears to free all of the Dolls. The cards spawned from this become
    Iris

Game of Origin: Mega Man X4

Voiced by: TBD (English), Aya Endō (Japanese)

Younger sister to the Repliforce's second-in-command Colonel, Iris served as both Zero's love interest as well as his Mission Control in X4, but after Colonel's destruction, Iris goes maverick and battles her beloved using a Ride Armor, forcing Zero to put her down as well. She makes her peace with Zero before giving him a smile and passing away in his arms. Despite her death, she's remained a hugely popular character in the MMX series, even going on to be playable in Mega Man X DiVE, and now here in TEPPEN.

  • Moveset Clone: To Felyne, as she is an EX skin rather than a full-fledged character.
    • Shieldspire becomes Proud Older Brother, with Colonel showing up to protect her from a horde of mavericks.
    • Coral Orchestra becomes Unheeded Voice, where she begs Zero to not fight Colonel.
    • Plunderblade becomes Despair-Stained Love, where she holds onto Colonel's core before entering her Ride Armor.
  • Powered Armor: Her armor from her boss battle with Zero appears in her Despair-Stained Love hero art.

Purple Element Heroes

    Morrigan Aensland

Game of Origin: Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors

"I appreciate a good thrill."
Voiced by: Siobhan Flynn (English), Rie Tanaka (Japanese)
"Too bad, I thought you'd last longer." Her voice drips with intoxicating allure, but he no longer hears a word.

The empress of the demon world and adoptive heir of the demon lord Belial Aensland, Morrigan is a carefree and easily bored succubus who keeps herself entertained with seduction and fighting, using her vast supernatural power for both, though her full potential was sealed away.

After an encounter with Dante, Morrigan travels to the Land of Illusion to reclaim the power her adoptive father sealed away.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Unlike the canon Morrigan, who has never killed any humans, the intro for this version of Morrigan states she's "sucked the spirit of countless mortals". She is also overall portrayed as a typical evil demon, not even understanding why Dante saved a human kid from dying and using X's sense of justice to her advantage. The real Morrigan would never do that.
  • Animal Motifs: Her wings and crown are both bat wings and made up of bats. However, she isn't a vampire as one might expect.
  • Dark Is Evil: Unlike the canon Morrigan, who is a selfish yet heroic succubus, this Morrigan is portrayed more akin to a typical succubus. Seduces men only so she can eat their souls, has no empathy toward humans and her seduction takes a dark tone.
  • DoppelgΓ€nger Attack: Her second hero art Darkness Illusion has her summon a clone of herself to deliver a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, destroying any unit inflicted with <Halt>. Becomes Phantasm Dance with the "Night's Butterfly" skin.
  • Geisha: Or rather, oiran. Akin to Setsuka, Morrigan's "Night's Butterfly" skin evokes the design of a traditional Japanese courtesan. Like the "Evil Ryu" skin, this also causes a few cosmetic changes; she has new voice lines, her Hero Arts change animations and names, and her theme is remixed with Japanese instruments.
  • Karma Houdini: It's stated that she's killed countless humans draining their souls, but unfortunately she is not stopped by any of the heroes. Even when defeated by other characters, she manages to get away (Akuma spares her life because of his code of honor and she manages to escape Dante before he can finish her off).
  • Overcome with Desire: Desires something to distract her from her boredom, and fighting the other heroes seems to be enough to satiate it. Becomes her associated virtue in "A Dark Agenda."
  • The Paralyzer: Her signature ability, <Halt>, temporarily stops a unit from attacking or countering for a certain amount of time, resetting their attack progress once the effect expires. Her legendary unit card Dark Libido Morrigan inflicts this on enemy units in front of it by triggering Resonate. The unit also ignores enemies inflicted with <halt>, allowing her to directly target the opposing hero.
  • Promoted to Playable: Her "Night's Butterfly" skin was initially available for the Morrigan AI fought at the end of Amaterasu's campaign, but said skin later becomes available to players in Special Pack 3, three weeks after Amaterasu was implemented on the first day of October 2020.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: When Dante unleashes his Devil Trigger against her, she's more than happy to bail and use X to fight Dante after he briefly breaks from the fight to protect a child as a chance to escape. This also acts as the set up to her campaign, with Morrigan setting off to find something more "stimulating" in order to escape her political responsibilities.
  • Shoryuken: Her third hero art Shadow Blade is normally this in her home series. The move deals more damage to any units with <Flight> in reference to this.
  • Sore Loser: She doesn't take defeat well, pretending that she got bored from the fight.
Morrigan: Ugh... you're boring me, I'm going home.
  • Stripperific: And how! Her outfit seems to be designed specifically to see how much she can get away with. Even her "Night's Butterfly" looks like it could fall off at any moment.
  • Succubi and Incubi: Morrigan is a succubus, meaning she feeds of lust, is very attractive, and has an array of innuendo laced dialog. And unfortunately, the game portrays her as an evil one contrasted to her canon self.
Morrigan: Don't worry, I'll be ever so gentle.
Night's Butterfly Morrigan: I hope you can satisfy me.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Proud, Solitary Heroes (THANKS 003). Also quite the Double Entendre.
Morrigan: The time we spent together was... truly stimulating. I hope you're willing to take responsibility for what you've done to me...
  • The Vamp: Morrigan's first hero art Temptation has her seducing the opponent, inflicting the <Halt> status on all enemy units for 13 seconds. Becomes Sweet Seduction with the "Night's Butterfly" skin.
  • Vampiric Draining: Unlike her canon self, this Morrigan sucks the spirits from people she has seduced, feeding off them unit they are husks. Her final hero art, Shadow Blade, functions like this, dealing 6 damage to an enemy unit and regaining +3HP. If that enemy unit has <Flight>, they'll take 8 damage instead. Becomes Bloodblossom Blade with the "Night's Butterfly" skin.
    Dante

Game of Origin: Devil May Cry 1

"My soul is screaming... For your head, that is!"
Voiced by: Reuben Langdon (English), Toshiyuki Morikawa (Japanese)
"So, did you enjoy the party? Good, 'cause now it's time to call it a night... permanently!"

The devil hunting Son of Sparda, Dante is a half human and half demon of immense power that fights to protect humanity all while keeping a devil may care attitude in the face of danger. He wields demonic power and human weapons while fighting, or toying, with his opponents.

Dante travels to the Land of Illusion in order to face Mundus, the demon emperor that was both imprisoned for 2000 years by his father and responsible for the death of his mother, and who he resealed in the events of Devil May Cry 1.
  • BFS: His signature weapon is the Rebellion, a gift from his father with the power of revenge.
  • Badass Fingersnap: Done when using Quicksilver and Devil Trigger for dramatic flair.
  • Because Destiny Says So: As the son of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, Dante is fated to protect humanity from demonic invasion and do battle with the underworld, not that he minds too much. Come the expansion "A Dark Agenda" and fate becomes Dantes associated virtue.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Many of his quotes make it seem like he's bored, despite fighting mad scientists and dragons that really want to kill him.
Dante: You done warming up yet?
  • Composite Character: Dante mainly takes attributes from his character in Devil May Cry 4, having the appearance from said game for both his human and demon forms, but also possesses the Quicksilver Style from Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening and is knowledgeable of Nero's situation from Devil May Cry 5. Following the "The Devils Awaken" card pack, Dante is exclusively depicted in his DMC5 appearance.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Despite being half demon, Dante is determined to protect people and use his power to uphold his father's legacy.
  • Guns Akimbo: Dante's second hero art, Ebony & Ivory, has Dante whip out his signature pistols in order return an enemy unit to the EX Pocket. It has the additional effect of giving all friendly units an extra use of <Resonate> that can stack whenever Dante uses this hero art.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: His mother was a human by the name of Eva, and his father was the demonic Defector from Decadence Sparda.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: A devil hunter that's half demon himself. This resulting in him coming into conflict with Morrigan in their story modes.
  • Hybrid Power: Has the power of demons along with the "heart" of humanity, the later of which makes him far more powerful than if he was a full blooded demon, or if he rejected his humanity.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Keeping to his character, his various voice lines mock his opponent.
Dante: (At the start of a match) This'll be over in five minutes.
Dante: (When he get's the upper hand in a match) What's the matter? Got you running scared?
Dante: (Victory) That's all you got? Talk about pathetic!
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While he may tease and insult his opponents, at the end of the day he cares greatly for the people around him and firmly believes in his fathers mission to protect humanity, shown in his story when he breaks from his fight with Morrigan to protect a child caught in the crossfire.
  • Musical Nod: His theme is based on the original version of Lock and Load, the second battle theme from the original Devil May Cry, but halfway through it adds elements of "Lock and Load -Blackened Angel Mix-" , his battle theme in Devil May Cry 4.
  • Mythology Gag: His alternate costume is his EX colours from Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, resembling his appearance from DmC: Devil May Cry with his hero art Devil Trigger also changing colours to resemble its appearance in Devil May Cry 5πŸ‘ Image
    .
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: With his third hero art, Devil Trigger, Dante becomes immune to damage, and any time you place a unit on the field, the enemy across from them will take 3 damage, both for 10 seconds.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Out of all the characters in the game, Dante is arguably the most powerful, having killed reality warpers and eldritch abominations by the time of Devil May Cry 4, with the main competition being Morrigan, who shares both his color and tribe, and Amaterasu, a literal goddess.
  • Status Buff: His signature ability, <Resonate>, acts like this. Whenever the player uses an action card, it triggers <Resonate>. This usually boosts health or attack, though it can also cause damage or, in cases such as Devil Hunter Dante and Forlorn Protector Lucia, transform them, becoming Devil Trigger Dante and Devil Form Lucia respectively. While these units have very glaring initial drawbacks such as high deployment costs, a properly buffed unit becomes nigh-unstoppable, with very few options to stop them outside of Sealing to stop the Resonate boosts. His Ebony & Ivory Hero Art boosts this further with the Reverberate buff, making any units on the field who get this have their Resonate effects activate twice in one go.
  • Super Mode: His Devil Trigger, both in unit and hero art form. The latter temporarily makes the player impossible to damage, while the former permanently transforms Devil Hunter Dante into Devil Trigger Dante, granting him a significant boost in attack and defense while also granting the abilities agility and flight.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Proud, Solitary Heroes (THANKS 003).
Dante: What a wild ride we had! You know what, I think you were almost as cool as me back there!
  • Time Stands Still: His first hero art, Quicksilver, inflicts the <Slow> status on a selected enemy unit while also making them deal -3 Attack for one attack, and the inability to counter attack.
  • Winged Humanoid: When in Devil Trigger, his coat is actually a pair of bat like wings that wrap under his arms when not in use.
    Zero

Game of Origin: Mega Man X1

"I will fulfil my duty as a maverick hunter!"
Voiced by: Johnny Yong Bosch (English), Ryōtarō Okiayu (Japanese)
He draws strength from the countless enemies he has defeated, all for the sake of destroying the evil stands in his way. Even at the rise of losing control...

The Maverick Hunter and closest ally of X, Zero is a reploid that fights to maintain peace between humans and reploids using his expert skills with his Z-Saber to defeat any enemy that stands before him.

After going berserk and nearly killing X, Zero agrees to travel to the Land of Illusion with his friend in order to try and prevent total loss of control.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: After his encounter with the mysterious woman, Zero goes crazy and happily attacks his best friend, though he is able to regain control. However, this is actually Zero reverting to his original programming.
  • Arm Cannon: Shown mainly in his unit cards, though it does appear in his second hero art Rakuhouha.
  • Awful Truth: Zero discovers that he might be one of the mavericks he is sworn to destroy, and though he doesn't know it, he was created by Dr Wily to defeat X. Truth becomes his associated virtue in "A Dark Agenda."
  • Badass Boast: Has his fair share.
Zero: I'll choose my own destiny.
Zero: I'll destroy every last Maverick.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: His first hero art Fight Against Inner Demons is represented this way, with Zero and his Maverick self vying for dominance, granting either the Maverick (T048) or Maverick Hunter (T049) action card, the former which destroys a random enemy unit that costs 6 MP or less, and the latter gives a friendly unit of your choosing +2 Attack and +4 HP.
  • The Berserker: Maverick Zero, in contrast with normal Zero, who is more of The Stoic.
  • Cool Sword: His signature Z-Saber, which appears in most of his artwork.
  • Ground Punch: Shown in his second hero art, Rakuhouha, with Zero ramming his arm cannon into the ground causing an explosion of energy. In game, this attack deals 4 damage across all enemy units if you've used 2 action cards, jumping up to 6 damage if you've used 4.
  • Hate Plague: Zero is the progenitor of the Maverick Virus, causing innocent reploids to become violent and dangerous, and while he is immune to it, his Maverick persona embraces this violence wholesale.
  • Heroic BSoD: After attacking X and coming back to his senses, Zero is horrified that he may be a maverick himself.
    • In the Haunted by Memories trailer, there's a call back to one of his most infamous moments.
Zero: WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR?!
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: His story battle with X is this trope in essence.
  • The Lancer: To X, always being by his friends side and back him up.
  • Laser Blade: Naturally, his Z-Saber. It's used in his third hero art, Tenkuuha, which grants a selected unit +2 Attack and <Combo> for one attack.
  • Magikarp Power: The ability added with him, <Memory>, works somewhat like this. The player's memory count rises with every action card played, and certain card bonuses are added when he reaches its Memory threshold. Two of Zero's Hero Arts are tied with this mechanic; Fight Against Inner Demons gives him a cheap action card to play, while Rakuhouha's damage is increased with more Memory burned.
  • Parrying Bullets: Shown at the end of his hero art Tenkuuha.
  • Patient Zero: Pun aside, he is the origin of the Maverick Virus, and is the cause of his berserker half.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to X's blue. While Zero is more composed than X, he is also more willing to fight and destroy his opponents. Played straight with Maverick Zero, who is a blood (or oil) lusted psychopath.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: Just like X, Zero is an extremely complicated being, as are all reploids.
  • The Stoic: He's fairly quiet and reserved, never letting the situation overwhelm him. However, his Maverick self is the complete opposite.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: His Maverick personality is able to destroy any MP cost of 6 or less unit with the Maverick action card.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Proud, Solitary Heroes (THANKS 003).
Zero: I have always fought only for the people I believe in! ...And that includes you. Thank you for trusting in me.
    Ada Wong

Game of Origin: Resident Evil 2

"I'll have to reveal myself and offer advice... Once in a while."
Voiced by: Courtenay Taylor (English), Junko Minagawa (Japanese)
She would use anything she could take advantage of, even unknown creatures. If it will serve her objective, why not let them run rampant?

A mysterious agent for an unknown organisation, Ada works for whoever pays the most in the moment, though she always has a hidden agenda to fulfill alongside every job, using nothing but her wits, a grappling hook, and a small arsenal of guns.

In order to gain the trust of her employer, the Goddess Myria, Ada constructs the Exposed Evil Eye before leading the other heroes to the Land of Illusion to fulfil her own hidden agenda.
  • Animal Motifs: Butterflies, seen on both her dress and in her legendary unit, Subtle Butterfly Ada.
  • Canon Character All Along: Since the game's launch, a mysterious woman manipulated all the heroes into travelling to the land of illusion for unknown means, who was ultimately revealed to be none other than Ada in disguise.
  • The Chessmaster: As the mysterious woman, Ada is behind every characters involvement in the story, from stabbing Rathalos with the Goddess' Dagger to telling Dante about Mundus, she has been guiding all the heroes towards the Land of Illusion to bring down Myria.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Ada will use every tool, weapon, and advantage at her disposal in a fight, tricking her opponent in order to gain the upper hand or outright leaving.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Ada has no loyalties to anyone other than herself, and has betrayed Wesker, Leon Kennedy, and the Los Illuminados to name a few, and is planning to betray whoever put her up to leading the other characters to the Land of Illusion.
    • The "War of the Goddess" Trilogy reveals that Ada's employer was Myria from Breath of Fire III, and that all of Ada's manipulations against her fellow playable characters were to get fighters together that would be strong enough to defeat her.
    • ...Only for the last expansion of the trilogy, Defying The Light, to have her steal Myria's Birdcage from the heroes after they defeated her.
    • She's weaponizing this habit of her's in the Metal Suit Mafia expansion, playing both mob families in order to get her and Leon back home.
  • Dark Action Girl: While she prefers to act from the shadows, when push comes to shove, she's more than capable of holding her own.
  • Decoy Getaway: Her second hero art, Mirage Decoy, has Ada create a bunch of holograms of herself to slip between. This locks the player's free spaces for 10 seconds, and sends all enemy units with an MP cost equal to the number of locked spaces +2 back to the Deck.
Ada: I'm right here. Can't you catch me?
  • Femme Fatale: Carrying straight from her home series, Ada is a textbook example.
  • Frameup: How she gets Chun-Li to fight Jill, posing as a mere civilian that's being attacked.
  • Grappling-Hook Pistol: Her signature tool, used in her hero art Break Away.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: It wouldn't be Ada if she wasn't constantly switching sides. From causing Zero, Rathalos, and Nergigante to go berserk in the character stories, to helping Karin's resistance defeat Myria, to betraying Karin as soon as Myria's defeated...
  • Lady in Red: Wears her signature red dress from Resident Evil 4.
  • Mysterious Watcher: Up until "A Dark Agenda", there was a cloaked woman manipulating all the heroes into travelling to the Land of Illusion, who was ultimately revealed to be Ada herself.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In order to hide her identity, the master spy wears... a tattered cloak with a hood. To be fair, only Wesker (and possibly Jill) would ever recognize her due to their shared history, and even then she notes that awareness of her identity would hardly be the most important thing on his mind.
Ada about Wesker: He must be aware of who I really am. But we've both got bigger fish to fry.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Her first hero art, Blackout, has Ada fire a special bolt from her crossbow that acts like an EMP, which permanently removes a single unit with 4 or less attack from the game.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: Her final hero art, Break Away, has Ada grapple onto a Mernos and flee the battlefield with a laugh. This moves a purple unit from the battlefield into the EX Pocket at a discounted MP cost of -2 while also placing another purple unit in the EX pocket onto the same slot.
    Ada: See you around!
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Proud, Solitary Heroes (THANKS 003).
Ada: You did what you were put there to do. Heh... I hope we can work together again someday.
    Vergil

Game of Origin: Devil May Cry 1

Voiced by: Dan Southworth (English), Hiroaki Hirata (Japanese)

Another half-human son of the legendary demon Sparda, and twin brother to Dante, Vergil is a man consumed by a singular desire: to gain more power. Embracing his demonic heratage, and with the dimension-cleaving katana "Yamato" in hand, he seeks to prove himself the stronger of the Sons of Sparda, at any cost.

  • Enemy Without: His first Hero Art, The Separating Blade, shows him stabbing himself with the Yamato in order to summon V or Urizen.
"Heavy chain, that does freeze my bones around...!"
  • Ground Punch: For his second Hero Art Hell on Earth, he pops his devil trigger and uses his Beowulf weapon to cause a massive shockwave attack.
  • Moveset Clone: To Zero, as he is an EX skin rather than a full-fledged character.
    • Fight Against Inner Demons becomes The Separating Blade, with the Maverick and Maverick Hunter cards become Demon Power (T099) and Human Power (T100).
    • Rakuhoha becomes Hell on Earth, one of his strongest attacks in DMC5 as a playable character.
    • Tenkuuha becomes his signature Judgement Cut, though the animation is actually based on its strongest version, Judgement Cut End.

Following Shadaloo's destruction, Juri now lives in a hedonistic haze, doing whatever she pleases as long as it excites her.

  • Badass Biker: Her Comin' Through! hero art shows her plowing through some Mad Gear mooks on her bike.
  • Moveset Clone: To Ada, as she is an EX skin rather than a full-fledged character.
    • Blackout becomes Sakkai Fuhazan, her Level 1 super from Street Fighter 6.
    • Mirage Decoy becomes Comin' Through!, donning her biker helmet from SF6 whilst riding through the night.
    • Break Away becomes Feng Shui Engine, the Super Mode she's had since her debut in SSF4.

Black Element Heroes

    Albert Wesker

Game of Origin: Resident Evil 1

"The right to be a god. That right... is now mine."
Voiced by: D.C. Douglas (English), Joji Nakata (Japanese)
All he desired was power and a vessel strong enough to consume everything. In a word, the ability to usurp god.

Originally a scientist for (and created by) the Umbrella Corperation, Wesker is one of the main antagonists of the Resident Evil series, being responsible for the Spencer Mansion incident and the Uroboros Project. He worked as a spy for Umbrella during his leadership of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, and his betrayal led to a personal vendetta between himself and the survivors, which includes Jill Valentine.

Wesker travels to the Land of Illusion in search of vessels for his experiments, hoping to find worthy test subjects.
  • A God Am I: Completely believes himself to be a god amongst men, a fact that he will remind you of whenever he gets the chance.
Wesker: You think you can stand against a god?
  • Ambition Is Evil: Wesker is never satisfied with his situation and is always looking to improve his lot. Come "A Dark Agenda", and ambition becomes his associated virtue.
  • Animate Dead: His third hero art, Bringer of Nightmares, sends a unit with <Revenge> active straight to the EX pocket and reduces their cost by 1 MP, granting access to already defeated, and now empowered, units. It also gives them an extra point of Attack and HP.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Jill, for his betrayal of S.T.A.R.S.
  • Back from the Dead: His second hero art, Uroboros, places the highest MP unit from the Graveyard onto the battlefield, allowing for strategies revolving around sending your strongest units to the Graveyard as soon as possible, though units summoned this way are removed from the game after they are defeated.
  • Came Back Strong: His associated ability, <Revenge>, involves a unit returning to the deck once with boosted stats after being defeated. His epic card from the Day of Nightmares expansion even gains +1 attack and health for each time it has triggered in battle.
  • Combat Tentacles: Uroboros sprouts out of his body whenever he needs it, and it a key part of two of his hero arts.
  • Composite Character: Downplayed; while his appearance is taken from his portrayal in Resident Evil 5, his heavy use of Combat Tentacles evokes when he infected himself with the Uroboros virus despite still having his pre-Uroboros human appearance. In fact, said tentacles largely take the place of the Super-Speed that this portrayal of Wesker is known for.
  • Dark Is Evil: Out of all the Black Element heroes, Wesker is by far most evil.
  • For Science!: His goal is to find new test subjects for his experiments. God knows what that entails.
  • Humans are Insects: Well, not just humans. Humans, monsters, robots, demons, they're all nothing to him.
  • Mad Scientist: He is the face of Umbrella, after all.
  • Playing with Syringes: One of his quotes at the beginning of battles implies this is his plan should he beat his opponent.
Wesker: You'll make a nice test subject.
  • One-Hit Kill: His first hero art, Dark Destruction, allows him to destroy a random enemy unit with an MP cost of 5 or less.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: In all his hero arts, you can see his red iris' behind his sunglasses.
  • Sinister Shades: Wouldn't be Wesker without them. However, his alternate skin "Ready for Battle", which is the only reskin so far that is not a Palette Swap, has him without them, with every other aspect of his appearance the same.
  • Sore Loser: He defeat quote is him basically telling the opponent they got lucky.
Wesker: That was nothing but a fluke! Next time, WORM, you'll pay!
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Uncanny, Occult Heroes (THANKS 004).
Wesker: You performed rather well... Heh. Perhaps you too are worthy of greatness.
    Nergigante

Game of Origin: Monster Hunter: World

As destruction incarnate, it revives endlessly, shaking heaven and earth alike as it searches for prey.

An Elder Dragon from the New World, the Nergigante is an apex predator that feeds on other Elder Dragons, overwhelming them with unmatched brute strength.

This Nergigante travels to the Land of Illusion after sensing energy that lay there, hoping to feast on it.
  • Adaptational Villainy: While always an aggressive predator, this game's version of Nergigante is more hostile than how it was in Monster Hunter: World.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: The elder dragon is able to overpower most foes with its instincts alone, with it becoming its associated virtue in "A Dark Agenda."
  • Cast from Hit Points: A delayed example with its second hero art Spike Launch. By sacrificing health through cards, Nergigante builds up damage that is then sent out at all enemy units, maxing out at 14. This art can completely wipe out or decimate enemy teams and units. Its legendary card Legend Eater Nergigante causes the player to automatically remove 10 cards from their deck in order to gain +4 attack and +10 health.
  • Dark Is Evil: One of the two original representatives of the Black Element in the game and a violent Elder Dragon.
  • Desperation Attack: Its final hero art, Change Form, can only take effect once Nergigante's health is at or below 20. All units on the field and in your hand will gain +1 Attack and HP, while any units in your EX Pocket will gain +2 Attack and HP.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: Is treated as this in the story modes. If the story needs a random violent figure, the Nergigante more often than not fills the role.
  • Healing Factor: Its spikes regrow at a stupidly fast rate, and they can be hardened for either offence or defence.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Its primary prey are other Elder Dragons.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Rather than a fire breathing scaled dragon, Nergigante is a muscular bull horned dragon covered in projectile spikes.
  • Spike Shooter: The Spike Launch hero art, which deals damage equal to sacrificed health.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Its main weapon are the spikes covering its body. In fact, every single one of its hero arts revolve around said spikes.
  • Suicide Attack: Its first hero art Spike Divebomb grants a unit +4 Attack and HP, but destroys it after that one attack. Upon that unit's death however, you'll gain 1 MP back.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: This thing eats Elder Dragons, creatures that are considered living natural disasters.
  • Thanking the Viewer: An implied one from the Special Thanks card Uncanny, Occult Heroes (THANKS 004).
[...A roar resounds in a land of howling wind. A flash of black wingsβ€”and the ruiner flies off in search of new prey.]
    Akuma

Game of Origin: Super Street Fighter II Turbo

"My fists know no equal!"
Voiced by: Richard Epcar (English), Taketora (Japanese)
The former master of the fist was consumed by the Satsui no Hado, becoming no longer human. All that was left of him was his desire to defeat the strong.

The master of the fist that wields the power of the Satsui no Hado, Akuma is a relentless and ruthless warrior that seeks only to fight the strongest in a duel to the death.

Akuma follows Ryu to the Land of Illusion to challenge the wandering warrior after he has become stronger to a final duel.
  • A God Am I: Not as much as Wesker, but he recognizes that their pursuit for greater power is very similar, stating that Wesker's desire to gain "a power greater than that of the gods" is no different than his own quest with the Satsui no Hado.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: To an insane degree. He only fights those he considers strong, and when he do fight he expects a duel to the death.
  • Blood Knight: All he wants is to fight the strongest warriors he can find. Nothing more, nothing less. Come the expansion "A Dark Agenda", and brutality is Akumas associated virtue.
Akuma: Halt! We fight to the death!
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The third representative of the Black color and despite being by far the most violent, he had a very strong sense of honor and respects those that have proven themselves to him, and will let opponents leave it it means he can fight them again when they are stronger.
  • Duel to the Death: He treats every battle like this, and expects his opponents to do the same. Notably, when defeated Akuma accepts this fate completely.
Akuma: This is a fight to the death. Show no mercy!
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite fighting and killing his opponents, he never challenges those he considers weaker than him. In his story, this causes him to let Morrigan live after beating her, as he considered her "unworthy" of a battle to the death.
  • Evil Virtues: Akuma has a very strong moral code that prevents him from fighting those that are not at least equal to him in power, and even in fights he shows respect to those he fights. All he wants to to become even stronger and to find someone that he can't beat.
  • Graceful Loser: Unlike most heroes, who usually dismiss their defeat or proclaiming This Cannot Be!, Akuma instead accepts defeat without protest, only demanding that his opponent finishes the job.
  • Ground Punch: His second hero art Sekia Kuretsuha has Akuma strike the ground with the power of the Satsui no Hado, destroying all enemy units with 4 health of less. It'll also give 2 random units in your hand or EX Pocket +1 Attack and HP per every unit destroyed.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Akuma's final hero art Ashura Senku grants a unit +1 Attack, nullifies all damage, and <Veil> for 10 seconds while also shifting them to an empty board slot, allowing for the player to quickly move units around to circumvent the opponents units or keep important units alive.
  • Noble Demon: Despite his ruthless nature, he is willing to let his opponents live if they are either weaker than him, or if the opponent has the chance to go even stronger, the latter of which is why he cuts his duel with Ryu short.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Akuma's first hero art is his signature super, Raging Demon, where Akuma unleashes a flurry of blinding fast attacks. This art activates the <Ascended> status to a unit that can become <Ascended> but isn't, and destroys the enemy unit in front of the unit.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: The ability associated with him, <Ascended>, involves placing a unit on top of another unit already on the field, sacrificing the other unit in order to activate another effect. Akuma's legendary unit Master of the Fist Akuma utilities this to transform into Demon-God Oni.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Naturally the Raging Demon comes with the following line.
    Akuma: Die one thousand deaths!
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: He has red hair and eyes, dark skin and gi.
  • Super Mode: When his legendary unit Master of the Fist Akuma is <Ascended>, it becomes Demon-God Oni, a unit with 8 attack and 11 health with the ability to destroy a random enemy unit after a victory against a unit, making it a monster to go against. However, any friendly unit placed while Demon-God Oni is active will be destroyed.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Uncanny, Occult Heroes (THANKS 004).
Akuma: Even when confronted with my demonic fist, you did not falter. Commendable! Wherever your journey leads, may we clash again!
  • Worthy Opponent: Considers Ryu to be this. His entire reason for going to the Land of Illusion is out of a desire to challenge him at his best.
    Oichi

Game of Origin: Sengoku Basara 2

"I've gotta go, don't I?"
Voiced by: Laura Bailey (English), Mamiko Noto (Japanese)
On awakening, she returns to a living hell. Whose is the voice that tries to pull her back? In her dark tomb, she cries out for the dream to never stop.

Sister of the Demon King Oda Nobunaga, Oichi married Azai Nagamasa in order to spy on his clan for her brother. However, she genuinely falls in love with Nagamasa, so much so that his death broke her to the point that she lost her memories. Her immense dark powers make her a deadly warrior despite her meek demeanour.

Haunted by memories of her past, Oichi aimlessly wanders the land of Amatsu no Kuni until she meets Priestess Rao, who promises Oichi a way of bringing Nagamasa back from the dead, stirring her to action.
  • Animate Dead: Oichi's second hero art Despair, wail, and perish! returns three units that cost 4 MP or less from your graveyard onto the field.
  • Badass Biker: The Sengoku Machine Armor version of her third Hero Art causes the giant Genma hand weapons she's using to morph into a sinister looking motorcycle, designed to resemble a horse.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Don't be fooled by her shy personality. Shrinking Violet she may be, her unholy power is EXTREMELY dangerous and when she snaps, she will kill you.
Oichi: Let me hear you scream... let me see you rot!
  • Casting a Shadow: Her power manifests in the form of demonic hands made of shadows.
  • Cradle of Loneliness: Her final hero art Dark Invitation, has Oichi being cradled in her hands of Darkness, and activates the abilities of a single friendly unit that are normally triggered on the units death.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The first of the Black Element heroes that isn't villainous. Even her demonic powers seem more interested in protecting her than harming others.
  • Dissonant Serenity: She always manages to keep her composure serene, if depressed, and often seems completely disconnected from what's going on around her. For example, when using her Dancing Dead hero art, in which she unleashes her demonic hands to attack a unit, her only comment is about picking flowers.
Oichi: So many flowers... it's alright if I pick some, isn't it?
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Best shown in her first hero art Dancing Dead.
  • Hates Being Alone: She is plagued by her memories and past happiness, and hates the state she finds herself in.
Oichi: ... Why? There's no one there... They've all left me behind... Please... I don't want to be alone...
  • Lady of Black Magic: A beautiful young sorceress with dark powers that are strong enough to drive off a being as powerful as Amaterasu!
  • Marionette Motion: A lot of her art has Oichi being supported by her demonic hands, which move her around like a puppet when needed.
  • Musical Nod: Her theme has brief snippets of her proper character theme from her home series, Demons Raining Down From Heaven.
  • Necromantic: She listens to Priestess Rao out of a desire to save Nagamasa from death.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: Her first hero art Dancing Dead deals damage equal to number of units in your graveyard plus 3 onto a specific enemy unit. An enemy destroyed by this attack will give Oichi back +3 Life.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Her appearance invokes imagery of a Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl.
  • Shrinking Violet: Oichi is a textbook example. This unfortunately makes her easy to manipulate by the likes of Priestess Rao.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: Oichi has no memories prior to waking up, the reason being the death of her husband Azai Nagamasa destroyed the already fragile woman.
  • Thanking the Viewer: From the Special Thanks card Uncanny, Occult Heroes (THANKS 004).
Oichi: I was always waiting... for the one who would save me... Thank you. Please, keep me safe...
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Priestess Rao, AKA the Fox Demon Ninetails, who uses Oichi in order to further its plans for godhood.
    • Happens to her again in the Genma Onslaught expansion, this time at the hands of Guildenstern's manipulations.
  • Voice of the Legion: When using her hero arts, her voice becomes demonic and echoes, showing how she's going insane.
    Ruiner Felicia

Game of Origin: Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors

Voiced by: G.K. Bowes (English), Kana Asumi (Japanese)
Theme: FELICIA StageπŸ‘ Image
(A mix of Felicia's Stage (U.S.A.) and Even Elder Dragons Tremble)

Felicia is a catwoman, and was raised by a kindly nun named Rose. After Sister Rose passed away, Felicia decided to travel the world and become a pop-star, wanting to end the prejudice humans have towards her kind and other darkstalkers.

She appears in TEPPEN wearing a fancy cosplay of the elder dragon devourer Nergigante.

  • Cosplay Otaku Girl: Inexplicably wears a costume based on Nergigante. Undeniably a cute look for her though.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The most unambiguously good character to ever be associated with the Black element. She's normally a Green element card, with the only reason for the change being her dressing as Nergigante.
  • Genki Girl: Always has a smile on her face.
  • Moveset Clone: To Nergigante, as she is an EX skin rather than a full-fledged character. A more extreme example than other EX skin characters, where Felicia is literally performing the exact same attacks as the character she's replacing.
    • Spike Divebomb becomes Spiiike... Divebomb!, where she swings down on a aerial hoop designed to have spiked wings like Nergi's.
    • Spike Launch becomes Spiiike... Launch!, almost identical to normal Nergigante's, spikes shooting out from behind her.
    • Change Form becomes Chaaange... Form!, where her costume regrows spikes that had been knocked off during the fight.
    Bass.EXE

Game of Origin: Mega Man Battle Network 1

Voiced by: Matt Hill (English), Keiko Nemoto (Japanese)
Theme: VS 8BossπŸ‘ Image
(remix of the track "Boss Battle!" from MMBN3)

The world's first autonomous NetNavi, created by Dr. Cossack. He was misblamed for the bugs and viruses that began to pop-up in the net around the same time, and was to be deleted, but he escaped into the depths of the cyberworld with his life. Now scarred both mentally and physically, Bass.EXE wanders the net, battling and deleting all those who cross his path.

  • BFG: Uses the Gospel Cannon for his first Hero Art.
  • Blood Knight: Battle is his forte, after all. This is likely the main reason he was made an EX Skin for Akuma.
  • Flash Step: His third Hero Art, Vanishing Step, is this, likely meant to allude to his Lightning Bruiser status in the main Battle Network games.
  • Ground Punch: Uses EarthBreak for his second Hero Art, charging energy as he slams his palm into the ground.
  • Moveset Clone: To Akuma, as he is an EX skin rather than a full-fledged character.
    • Raging Demon becomes Gospel Cannon, his right arm becoming the the head of the MultiBugNoteThat'd be computer bugs, not actual bugs. abomination Gospel and firing from it.
    • Sekia Kuretsuha becomes EarthBreak, an attack he uses in Battle Network 3.
    • Ashura Senku becomes Vanishing Step, quickly dodging energy blasts as he flies across the battlefield.
  • Musical Nod: Hints of his classic counterpart's theme can be heard in his battle theme. This wouldn't be the first time classic Bass' music was used for his NetNavi counterpart, the first time was in Rockman.EXE 4.5: Real Operation.
