"Mischievous dog" is one of Aesop's Fables.

A young attention seeking mongrel sneaked up on people and bit their legs. The dog's master being aware of his pet's misbehavior, and having been unsuccessful with previous efforts to correct the dog's actions, placed a collar with a bell around its neck. The dog thinks at first it is some sort of prize or reward for being a good dog, or at the very least by a liberal-minded pet owner who "just loves his pet". Until a wise, elderly dog tersely informed him it is not a gift but a warning to get people and other dogs to be wary of this ill-mannered mutt.

Tropes:

  • Mark of Shame: The dog gets a bell around its neck due to constantly biting others, so it could warn others when it is around. The dog thinks it is a reward at first, but then soon discovers the truth.
  • Nameless Narrative: No one is named in this tale.
  • Troublesome Pet: The dog constantly bits people and causes mischief, forcing its owner to get a bell around its neck to warn others when it is around.
