The Seahorses were an English Alternative Rock band from York. It was founded by guitarist John Squire, following his departure from The Stone Roses.

They formed in 1996 and released their first and only album the following year before splitting up in 1999.

Discography:

  • Do It Yourself (1997)

Tropes Are the Law:

  • Design Student's Orgasm: The cover of Do It Yourself shows a 3D puzzle model of Earth.
  • Epic Rocking: "Love is the Law" is 7:43.
  • Intercourse with You: "Love is the Law" seems to be about having sex.
Now we know where we're going, baby
We can lay back and enjoy the ride
Take in the sights and drown in our senses
Love is the law so take me deep inside
  • Significant Anagram: The band John Squire formed after The Stone Roses was called The Seahorses. While he claimed it was just a coincidence, it was often pointed out that this was an anagram for "he hates roses", as well as "the rose ashes". Squire actually got sick enough of this speculation that he officially dropped the "the" from the band name, just so "he hates roses" would no longer work as an anagram.
