Unlike the first season, the second season of DB: What Ifinity covers a much shorter period of time. Whereas the first season covers not only the entire period of the original Dragon Ball Series, but also any flashback or prequel material that takes place over the course of millions of years, the second season only covers the period of a year. It primarily covers the Saiyan Arc of Dragon Ball Z which goes from the beginning of the sequel series covering the year leading up to the arrival of the invading Saiyans. The season also incorporates the events of Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone into the opening of the season and Dragon Ball Z: The World's Strongest into the year of training for the Saiyans.
Beginning of Z
Out at Kakarot's hut in the woods, Bulma brings up Tien’s concerns, with Kakarot reasoning that this is just how Saiyans are. Suddenly, a spaceship appears, and two aliens named Rack and Pinion step out from the intergalactic fighting ring known as the Mediani Galactic. They announce that they’ve come for Kakarot. Bulma and Kakarot attempt to fight, but they are stunned and knocked out by the aliens' ray gun. The aliens decide to take Bulma and Kakarot, reasoning that taking a child would be too far. They leave Caulifla unconscious in the woods and take off. Shortly after, Caulifla is taken by the demon known as Ginger under the orders of Garlic Jr.
The old man tells them that he and Chronoa are part of the Time Patrol, and that several divergent timelines have merged into one, leaving them struggling to determine the cause. They also mention that they can’t see the future or past of this merged timeline as they usually can with others; they can only monitor it as it flows. Chronoa apologetically reveals that she was the one who damaged their time machine and trapped them in this timeline so they could help.
Ranch and Trunks are upset that they have been cut off from their original timeline but are ultimately understanding. The two stranded individuals agree to help. Chronoa asks them where they came from, as their arrival in this timeline is still concerning.
Their timeline matched that of the original Dragon Ball series until Raditz showed up to recruit Goku. In the climax of the battle, where both Goku and Raditz were supposed to be killed by Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon, Raditz manages to break free, resulting in only Goku's death. Guilt-ridden over his brother's passing, Raditz joins the Dragon Team to help them fight against the Saiyans and later Frieza, becoming a great ally. Eventually, however, Goku dies from the heart virus, with the Dragon Balls unable to resurrect him again as he has died a natural death. Months later, Androids 17 and 18 attack South City, killing most of the heroes except for Raditz and Gohan. Piccolo manages to birth an egg that hatches his son, Bansuri, before dying. Raditz and Launch are eventually killed as well, leaving Gohan to take on the responsibility of training Trunks and Ranch while raising Bansuri. When the Androids kill Gohan, the trauma triggers Trunks’ and Ranch’s transformation into Super Saiyans, before Bansuri is able to bring Gohan back to life. With a new sense of hope, Gohan, Trunks, and Ranch go to Kami’s Lookout and train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, becoming powerful enough to put an end to the Androids. Their victory is short-lived, however, as Cell appears and kidnaps Bansuri, forcing him to resurrect Androids 17 and 18 so he can absorb them. Once he achieves his Perfect Form, Cell trounces all three Super Saiyans and then gives them ten days to prepare for his Cell Games, threatening to blow up the planet if he is not provided with an adequate challenger. With the destruction of Earth imminent, Bulma reveals her time machine and reasons that they can give Goku the medicine he needs to avoid his heart disease and then bring him to the future timeline to fight Cell. Trunks is chosen to go, but Ranch stows away, wanting to see her parents again.
This revelation shocks Chronoa and Old Man Trunks, who reveal that the timeline Trunks and Ranch hail from is also a patchwork of other timelines. This discovery makes them all the more determined to figure out what is going on. They agree to work together before Old Man Trunks and Chronoa depart.
Mota, Kakarot, Bulma, Rack, and Pinion are sent into the arena with several other fighters, and sure enough, Kakarot begins sweeping through the other fighters effortlessly. Bulma armors up and joins the fight. However, Kakarot is knocked down by a fighter who is ecstatic to see him—it's Jocha, his long-lost sister. She identifies him by name and gives him a big hug, but he is confused as he has never met Jocha before. Bulma, feeling jealous, attacks Jocha, and the two women begin to fight until Bulma reveals herself as Kakarot's wife. At this, Jocha reveals herself as his sister. Remembering what Gine told him about his other sister, Kakarot asks if she is Jocha, which she confirms. Jocha explains that she was also kidnapped.
The three of them, along with Mota, discuss how to escape, but Mota is very cynical, stating that Drolick and his henchman Arch are extremely powerful. Unfazed, Kakarot looks to Bulma, who has already hacked into all the shock collars with her suit. She simply presses a button that disables the collars, freeing all of the fighters. With the prisoners now rioting or escaping, Drolick orders Arch to attack. Arch proves to be a formidable foe, able to take on Bulma, Kakarot, Mota, and Jocha. Even when Rack and Pinion join in, he still remains undefeated, killing the two.
Kakarot then transforms into a Super Saiyan, turning the tide of the battle. He unleashes a blast that engulfs both Arch and Drolick, killing them. Jocha is impressed that her little brother has become a Super Saiyan like their father, which Kakarot is surprised to learn is still alive. Mota thanks Bulma, Kakarot, and Jocha, promising to turn the Mediani Galactic into a more formal and voluntary arena as the three depart for Earth.
Meanwhile, Kakarot, Bulma, and Jocha arrive on Earth and trace Caulifla’s energy, finding her asleep amidst the vast wasteland. Wondering if this destruction was caused by Caulifla, they decide to put the matter aside, as they need to get to the city to find Gine and Raditz.
Unfortunately, Jocha reveals that before she was abducted by the Mediani, she was on her way to Earth to warn them that Vegeta and his squad are coming in a year to procure the Saiyans living there and bring them to Frieza. Not only that, but one of the Saiyans under Vegeta’s command possesses a power unlike anything anyone has ever seen, greatly dwarfing even Bardock's own Super Saiyan power—referring to Broly.
Jocha insists that the only way to ensure their survival is to leave Earth, but even Kakarot refuses, arguing that they have friends and family on the planet. The Saiyan family resolves to stay on Earth and prepare to fight Vegeta and his crew.
The Saiyan Saga
Kami attempts to persuade King Yama to allow more than one fighter to go to King Kai’s, but Yama refuses. Goku pushes back, arguing that if they lose this fight against the Saiyans and Earth is destroyed, it will be Yama’s fault—not to mention the influx of souls at his check-in station. Yama finally obliges, permitting Goku, Piccolo, Chi-Chi, Hercule, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yajirobe, collectively known as the Breakfast Club of Combat, to travel down Snake Way to train with King Kai.
The other Saiyans decide to remain on Earth, with Yamcha staying to look after Kombu and Bulma focusing on enhancing her power armor. Launch also stays, wanting to be near Raditz. Remembering Future Gohan’s recollection of Goku arriving late to the battle, Ranch advises this Goku to leave King Kai’s planet early and return to Earth so they can confront Vegeta’s squad with full force.
The Breakfast Club of Combat journeys down Snake Way, with some members taking turns sleeping while others carry them, switching roles as needed. This isn’t a problem, given their super strength, allowing them to reduce their travel time from a few months to just a few days. Upon arrival, King Kai agrees to train them if they can make him laugh. Hercule, Chi-Chi, Yajirobe, and Chiaotzu succeed easily, but Piccolo, Tien, and Goku struggle. Goku eventually earns his way into training by fixing up King Kai’s place.
Though it takes a little longer, Piccolo and Tien manage to join the training as well. They all learn Kaio-Ken, with some able to achieve higher levels than others. King Kai also teaches them the Spirit Bomb, but only Goku, Chi-Chi, and Tien truly grasp it. After a few months, they leave early, as advised by Ranch.
Kami, feeling disheartened by his perceived failures as Guardian of Earth, reveals that he has restored the Dragon Balls. He uses one of his own wishes to restore his youth, regaining strength and vitality, which enhances his power and allows him to train the Saiyans more effectively. Additionally, he offers the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, allowing the group to maximize their training time.
Kakarot and Raditz enter the Time Chamber first, pushing themselves to reach new limits. Meanwhile, Gine and Jocha train outside, utilizing their Great Ape forms to help Caulifla gain a level of control over her transformation. Kami, Bulma, and Launch join in, using the opportunity to learn Saiyan fighting techniques and build up their resilience.
After their intense training session, Kakarot and Raditz emerge from the Time Chamber, having mastered Super Saiyan Grades 2 and 3. Their sudden growth in power stuns Trunks and Ranch, who reflect on how long it took them to reach these levels in their timeline—and how remarkable it is that so many people have become this powerful so early in the timeline.
Meanwhile, Caulifla, Videl, and Kombu express their desire to join the fight and assist. Kakarot and Bulma, however, forbid it, feeling they’re still too young for the dangerous battles ahead. Instead, Kami takes them under his wing, providing guidance and a gentler form of training to help the three children begin their journey as future fighters.
Bulma is shocked, recognizing him as the scientist who had almost died years ago after being trapped in ice, only to be rebuilt by Gevo. This revelation hits Kakarot hard, as he realizes his former surrogate brother Gevo has escaped prison and is continuing Dr. Gero’s work. Trunks, however, is even more incensed; seeing yet another Android affiliated with the Red Ribbon Army so early terrifies him. Without a second thought, he launches an attack on Dr. Wheelo.
However, Dr. Wheelo reveals that he has fused his consciousness into a powerful, robotic body, one capable of matching even Trunks in strength. This alarms Trunks and Ranch, as it implies that if the Red Ribbon Army has technology this powerful now, the Androids they’ll face in the future may be even stronger. The Saiyans rally together, each throwing themselves into the fight with renewed determination.
As the tide begins to turn, they start demanding information from Dr. Wheelo about Gevo's whereabouts. Wheelo, however, begins to laugh mockingly, then self-destructs in a blinding explosion, robbing them of any leads. Trunks is furious, wanting to hunt down Gevo and put a stop to his work once and for all. Ranch, however, reminds him that Vegeta and his team are expected to arrive any day now, urging Trunks to stay focused on the imminent threat. Begrudgingly, Trunks agrees, vowing that he will track down Gevo once the Saiyan threat has been neutralized.
The group spends the next few days training harder than ever, working together to prepare for the fight of their lives. Finally, the day arrives when the Breakfast Club of Combat returns from King Kai’s training on Snake Way, each radiating with newfound power and confidence. Their timing couldn’t be more perfect, as mere hours later, the invading Saiyans make their appearance.
With Kombu, Videl, and Caulifla left safely on Kami’s Lookout, the Dragon Team heads to confront the new arrivals. At last, they come face to face with Vegeta’s squad: the imposing Vegeta himself, his ruthless partner Nappa, the calmer Tarble, a familiar face in Krillin who has joined them, and a towering figure exuding immense, terrifying power—Broly.
The atmosphere is tense as the two sides prepare to clash, each fighter sizing up the other, knowing that this battle will determine the fate of Earth and their loved ones. The stage is set for an explosive showdown, with both sides determined to emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, Tarble is not doing so well against Bulma, Hercule, and Piccolo, as he is quite inexperienced in combat. To gai the upper hand, uses artificial moon light to transform into a Great Ape. It works at first but Hercule and Piccolo use Kiao-Ken and quickly regain the edge. Unfortunately another Great Ape joins in and slaps Hercule away.
It’s Krillin, and he is not in control as he’s never been a Great Ape before. Moments earlier he was losing to Goku, Chi-Chi, Launch and Yajirobe, with Goku still trying to reach him. He had grown a lot stronger due to Zen Kai boosts from being Broly’s bunching bag on the trip to Earth, but the teamwork between the four is too much for him, especially when three of them go Kaio Ken. Then the artificial moonlight from Tarble turned him into a Great Ape, after which the four are unable to make a scratch, with Krillin eventually stepping on and crushing Yajirobe to death. That’s when he noticed Great Ape Tarble fighting Hercule and charged in slapping the latter away. Krillin then attacks Tarble, as he is still not in control. Krillin is much stronger and begins to put Tarble on the ropes. Goku, Chi-Chi and Piccolo get up and fly towards Krillin in Kaio-Ken, knocking Krillin back. Piccolo fires a Special Beam Cannon at Krillin’s tail reverting him back and knocking him out. While fighting his father, Trunks is disturbed to notice that both Chiaotzu and Yajirobe have been killed, especially when he remembers that the Dragon Balls in this timeline cannot revive the dead. Trunks goes Super Saiyan which shocks Vegeta. He swears to not let anyone else be slain. Vegeta goes Super Saiyan which at this point, does not shock Trunks. Nappa rushes in to help Tarble, knocking Piccolo and Hercule out. Chi-Chi and Launch try to tag team him but he knocks Launch out. Chi-Chi powers up to Kaio-Ken using her fire ball against him. Goku tries to help with Nappa but is attacked by Great Ape Tarble. She flies behind him and fires a Burning Attack at his tail, destroying reverting him back to his standard form and knocking him out.
She is immediately attacked by Nappa and even with Chi-Chi’s help, cannot fight him off. He knocks Chi-Chi out and almost does the same to Goku when Bulma comes to the rescue in her giant mechanical robot suit, the Saiyabuster armor, which she built to counter the Great Ape form. She grabs Nappa and thrashes him around. Goku is able to recover and fires Ki blasts at Nappa to distract him. Nappa tries to pierce the armor but it’s too much for him, with Goku’s help making it even harder. While the ladies turn the tides on Nappa, Vegeta is being easily beaten by Trunks, which frustrates the Prince. He calls out for Broly who has been greatly overwhelming the Super Saiyan duo of Kakarot and Raditz, without going Super Saiyan himself. They decided to power up to Super Saiyan Grade 2. This turns the tables for a bit, but then Broly powers up to his true Super Saiyan form completely regaining the upper hand. That’s when Vegeta called for Broly’s help and he went to save the Prince from Trunks.
Broly attacks Trunks who lands a hit that hurts the Legendary Super Saiyan for the first time in his life. Trunks vows to put an end to him, as Broly gets excited at the battle. The time traveler knocks Broly into a mountain and prepares to fight Vegeta again. Kakarot and Raditz join him. Vegeta is Gast that he and his squad are losing to a bunch of humans, low class warriors and a Namekian. He powers up and fires a beam at Nappa almost killing him, but Goku and Bulma save him by countering the Ki blast. The ensuing explosion knocks Nappa out, and Goku chastises Vegeta for trying to kill his own teammate. Vegeta attacks her but Trunks kicks him to the ground knocking him out of Super Saiyan. He tells his would be father to leave but then everything shakes. The Prince smiles as Broly bursts out of the mountain, with a violent green aura surrounding him. He has powered up to his Legendary form.
Jocha feels hopeless but Goku refuses to give up and powers up to Kai-Ken times ten, with Piccolo, Chi-Chi, Hercule and Tien doing the same. Unfortunately none of them can do any damage either. He knocks Chi-Chi out and slams Tien and Hercule into each other. Tien spam attacks Broly with A barrage of Tri-Beam attacks but Broly rips one of his hands clean off and the fires a beam right through him, killing him.Goku and Piccolo attack but Broly swings Tiens severed hand at them, sending them flying and knocking Goku out.
Trunks gets up and looks at Broly in horror, realizing that he might even be stronger than Cell. He wonders how the timeline could change so much that someone this powerful could appear so early. Enraged, Trunks powers up to Super Saiyan Grade 3. Broly gets excited for the challenge. Trunks strikes and Broly blocks but is actually hurt by the blow. Trunks punches Broly in the face making him feel real pain for the first time. Broly gets more excited. Trunks has an advantage power, but the form has a drawback, that being the excess bulk tremendously slowing the user down. This gives Broly the advantage in speed and he’s able to catch up. They battle for quite a while.
Piccolo notices that Vegeta is not worried, meaning that while Trunks is at full power, Broly is not. Realizing they’ll lose unless he does something, Piccolo flies to the lookout to fuse with Kami. While Kami worries that fusing will render the Dragon Balls inert, Piccolo reminds him that the Dragon Balls can’t help much anyway since they can’t resurrect the dead. Kami still refuses which annoys Piccolo. As the battle between Broly and Trunks continues, Vegeta tells his adopted brother to “stop playing games” which finally convinces Kami to fuse. He tells Popo, Caulifla, Videl and Kombu and goodbye and walks towards Piccolo. Piccolo places his arm on Kami’s chest and the elder Namekian disappears, fusing into his nephew’s body. The resulting fusion decides to still go by Piccolo as he has forgotten his true name. Caulifla wants to go with Piccolo to the battle but Piccolo refuses to let her as it is even more dangerous than they originally thought. Piccolo flies off but a bit later Caulifla decides to go, with Videl and Kombu following.
As Trunks finally gives out against Broly and notices his would be father laughing as Broly beats him to death. Just before Broly can deliver the killing blow, Piccolo returns kicking Broly into rubble, shocking Vegeta. Everyone notices his energy is stronger and Hercule guesses that he fused with Kami. Piccolo is able to stand toe to toe with Broly but can’t do damage. Broly laughs until Piccolo uses Kaio Ken. This combined with the fusion, finally turns the tides against Broly whose advantage in raw strength is no longer enough to make up for Piccolo’s superior fighting skills. Broly cannot handle losing for the first time in his life begins throwing a tantrum, firing several Ki blasts at everyone. Piccolo is able to deflect most of them but one shoots towards Caulifla, Videl and Kombu, who have just arrived. Piccolo is too late and the blast hits the three seemingly killing them. Distraught, Piccolo is too distracted to deflect Ki blasts from Broly which knock him out. With everyone now down or too weak, Broly is about to declare victory. However another green energy erupts with Caulifla emerging in her own Legendary Super Saiyan form. She unleashes a Ki blasts which Broly is not prepared for. The older Saiyan is knocked back into his base form and he passes out. Caulifla then begins her own rampage with Gine, Raditz, and Jocha trying to calm her down to no avail. She simply knocks her aunt, uncle and grandmother away. Raditz Powers up to Grade 2, while Yamcha and Hercule give their energy to wake up Kakarot and Bulma, in hopes that the child’s parents can calm her down.Bulma and Kakarot are shocked to see this devastating power, so similar to Broly’s, from their daughter. Kakarot powers up to Grade 2 as Caulifla knocks out Raditz. Unable to reach his daughter, he is forced to battle her.
Meanwhile Vegeta plans a tactical retreat as all of his troops are out for the count. He places power dampening cuffs he got from the Mediani on the unconscious Broly, Tarble, Trunks, Ranch, Goku & Krillin, throwing them on his ship, and decides to abandon Nappa for his failure. He knocks out Hercule, Hercule, and Jocha, and then attacks Gine. Gine is stronger than him in while in base form so he has to go Super Saiyan. But before they continue the fight, Kakarot is knocked into them by Caulifla. The berserk child knocks her father out of Super Saiyan. As Vegeta laughs, the hopeless situation enrages Gine and she transforms into a Super Saiyan.she blows everyone except for Caulifla. Gine calls out to Caulifla and her demeanor is enough to reach the child, who powers down and passes out. The only ones left conscious are Gine and Vegeta, and while she may have the strength advantage, Vegeta could still kill the unconscious heroes. With no other option that would ensure everyone’s safety, Gine tells Vegeta that she and the other Saiyans will go with him to Frieza as long as he spares everyone else. Vegeta agrees. Kakarot tries to argue but is too exhausted to fight and Vegeta just dodges his attacks. Broly wakes up and fires a Ki blast at Kakarot seemingly killing him. Enraged Gine almost attacks, but Vegeta reminds her of their deal. She sadly powers down and complies as Vegeta chastises Broly for losing control. Bulma, Hercule, and Yamcha beg Gine not to give in to Vegeta but she says it’s the only way as she cries. Vegeta pushes her Gine onto his ship as Bulma fires a miniature tracker on to her back. As she tearfully says goodbye to her adopted home, Vegeta’s ship takes off leaving the Breakfast Club of Combat to ponder what to do next. Bulma is inconsolable with her husband dead and her daughter abducted.
“This isn’t the end, and this moment has been prepared for.” Says a voice. Bulma, Hercule and Yamcha turn around to see a man with long green hair, a green beard and antlers. They recognize the voice but not the man speaking. Confused, Bulma asks…“SHENRON?”

- You Have Failed Me: Nappa in Vegeta's eyes have screwed up too many times. After getting knocked out, Vegeta decides to just ditch Nappa on Earth. He would have done so with Tarble if the latter wasn't his brother and the only one able to calm Z-Broly.
