5 years later, Andrew created a sequel titled ''Spy and Sentry'.
Spy and Pyro provides examples of the following tropes:
- Accidental Murder: Three of these are committed during the brawl the Spy and the Pyro have. The first occurs when the Pyro punches the Spy in the face hard to the point that the piece of sausage the Spy ate earlier flies out with enough force to pierce through a Scout, the second one is when the Spy attempts to stab the Pyro, only to stab the pressure canister instead, causing his knife to go flying and impale the RED Spy through the mouth, and the third happens during their Big Ball of Violence squishing a Goomba.
- Ambiguous Gender: Subverted. The Pyro gives birth to a baby, meaning that biologically at least, she could only be a woman. But then again, look at the child of their relationship...
- Big Ball of Violence: It results in the death of a Goomba.
- Binomium ridiculus: As a nod to the Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner cartoons, both the Spy and the Pyro are given genus/species names (Espionagius Sapiens Mysentrii and Incendio Flamewaricus respectively). The unfortunate BLU Engineer that the Pyro is burning alive is also given one, which is simply “Toast”.
- Chase Scene: A short, Benny Hill-esque one.
- Couldn't Find a Lighter: While waiting outside the hospital for the Pyro to give birth, the Spy lit one of his cigarettes with the flamethrower.
- Crossover Relatives: The BLU Spy and RED Pyro from Team Fortress 2 are hit by Cupid's arrow and have a baby named Spyro
- The Faceless: Pyro remains this throughout the entire video. You do see her torso and legs, though. Turns out she's a black Big Beautiful Woman - at least in Andrew's eyes.
- Feghoot: Spy. And Pyro. Fall in love. And then they have a baby. See 👁 This example contains a YMMV entry. It should be moved to the YMMV tab.
Portmanteau Couple Name below. - Memetic Mutation: invoked The animation makes two references to certain memes from Valve games, those being Chell finally getting her cake at the wedding and BLU Spy's “GENTLEMEN” face.
- Mouth Full of Smokes: The BLU Spy’s Must Have Nicotine routine eventually results in this, complete with his face resembling the “GENTLEMEN” meme.
- Must Have Nicotine: BLU Spy in the hospital scene. He's even willing to consider killing The G-Man to get his fix.
- Panicky Expectant Father: The BLU Spy, particularly when running out of his smokes.
- Pie-Eyed: The animation’s titlecard shows the Spy and the Pyro with these. Averted in the animation itself, however.
- Punny Name: St. Garry's Medical Hospital.
- Portmanteau Couple Name: invoked Provides the source for the Punny ending: BLU Spy + RED Pyro = Purple Spyro.
- Random Events Plot: In just a few minutes, the animation’s plot goes from the BLU Spy sneaking around, to both the BLU Spy and the RED Pyro fighting each other, then being hit by Cupid’s arrow and falling in love with each other, and lastly, to the RED Pyro giving birth. All with a couple of other minor occurrences put throughout the animation as well.
- Rapid-Fire Comedy: Each bit of humor is quickly followed up by another joke after the other.
- Shapes of Disappearance: The RED Pyro realizes an enemy Spy is nearby due to a bite-shaped piece of the sausage they were cooking being missing, with the eaten part of the sausage being outlined with a question mark at the center.
- Shipper on Deck: At the wedding, Gordon and Alyx are arm in arm as Alyx ends up catching the bouquet. Eli and Barney immediately nudge the couple and grin.
- Silence Is Golden: As a nod to being based off of old cartoons, there is not a single bit of dialogue uttered by anyone. This is also humorously acknowledged in the Credits Gag, which states that Gordon Freeman provided the voice acting.
- Visual Innuendo: The entire "sex scene" between the Spy and Pyro consists of many of these, one of them being traffic cones being moved through rings in Garry's Mod.
