- Audience-Alienating Premise: invoked Discussed. He notes in his review of How I Live Now that it's about a not-very-likable character trying to get back to someone who is their cousin/lover. He also notes that it flopped in his native UK, probably because of this.
- Awful British Sex Comedy: He thought that Keith Lemon: The Film was so bad it harkened back to the days of The '70s, when audiences' tastes were shifting from the Carry On... Series to the likes of Confessions of a Window Cleaner.
- Bait-and-Switch: In his review of xXx: Return of Xander Cage:In 2002, the James Bond franchise stumbled with Die Another Day, and found it's throne threatened by a young upstart that showed how out of touch it was at that moment. And that movie was The Bourne Identity.
- Catchphrase: "Hello and welcome to Projector, and on this episode..."
- Early-Installment Weirdness: The first few episodes were unscripted and had Mathew inviting his friends to discuss the film. The series is now a one-man show and Mathew rarely goes unscripted, unless there aren't enough clips of the movie.
- Freudian Slip: In the review of Search Party, when he comments on Thomas Middleditch spending most of the film naked:This is a mainstream comedy [...] that features loads and loads of Thomas Middledick... sorry, that was a Freudian slip.
- It's Personal: He takes the Twist Ending of Allelujah very personally because he has family who work in the elderly-care industry, and he had invited them to join him for the screening, which went over quite badly.
- Retool: Briefly. Starting with The Imitation Game and '71, Mathew switched from covering one film per episode to a pair, sometimes with a similar theme, with single reviews being used for special episodes instead. However around February 2016 he switched back to doing single reviews only.
- Signing-Off Catchphrase: "I'm Mathew Buck fading out."
