Western Animation / Go, Dog. Go!

Go To

Go, Dog. Go! is an educational computer-animated children's streaming television series based on the 1961 children's book of the same name by P. D. Eastman, which was developed for Netflix by Adam Peltzman.

The show's stars are two young canines, the energetic and inventive Tag Barker and the more timid and reserved Scooch Pooch, whose family has just moved next door to Tag's. This pair of unlikely friends live in the Quirky Town of Pawston, where everyone is always on the go. Armed with plenty of ingenious plans and a love for anything that goes, Tag and Scooch are ready for fun and adventure together.

Co-produced by DreamWorks Animation Television and WildBrain Studios (later renamed to Island of Misfits), the series premiered on January 26, 2021. A second season was released on December 7, 2021. A third season was released on September 19, 2022. A fourth season was released on November 27, 2023

This show contains the following tropes:

  • Adults Are More Anthropomorphic: The dogs in the series act more dog-like when they're babies and more human-like when they are big kids.
  • All-CGI Cartoon: The show is done in CGI animation.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Orange dogs, blue dogs, yellow dogs, green dogs, pink dogs, purple dogs, etc.
  • Canon Foreigner: Most of the show's characters, including the main characters, are NOT from the book.
  • Cartoon Dog Breed: With the exception of a few, like Lady Lydia the poodle and Sam Whippet the whippet, most of the dogs don't resemble any specific breed. The Barkers in particular just look like multicolored dogs of various shapes and sizes (besides Grandpaw Mort, who resembles a basset hound).
  • Don't Explain the Joke: Averted. Jokes are explained by the characters enough times, that explaining the joke is basically a Running Gag in itself.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The episode "Board Silly" has Frank and Beans cheat on a live board game across Pawston by replacing all their cards with Skip Cards, meaning they can bypass all challenges and reach the final space sooner. However, they can't actually win the game, as to do so you need to choose a Treasure Card on the final space, and they only have Skip Cards! Furthermore; because they skipped most of the game part of the game, they didn't have any fun.
  • Double Meaning Gag: In "Cattitude Adjustment", Tag and Scooch make a committee. They both say, "Present!" when they're having a meeting, which Beans overhears and he asks if they have any presents.
  • Firehouse Dalmatian: Pawston's local firefighter is an anthropomorphic Dalmatian named Dale Mation.
  • Free-Range Children; Tag and Scooch can go almost everywhere in Pawston.
  • Friendly Rival: Tag and Wind Swiftly during the Race Cadet storyline.
  • Funny Animal: The cartoon's characters are anthropomorphic dogs, also season 3 introduces anthropomorphic cats.
  • Furry Reminder: A lot of moments. For example, the dogs wag their tails when they are happy. They also bark sometimes.
  • Hufflepuff House: The Race Cadet storyline focuses on Tag and Wind, the other cadets, Tread Lightly and Doug, are just... there.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Beans is Frank's minion. But unlike Frank, Beans isn't as mean (just kinda dumb, Beans can also be nice when he isn't hanging with Frank).
  • Mythology Gag: Paw Barker and Lady Lydia are based on characters from the book. The entire Barker family sleeps in the same bed, just like the dogs in the book. There's also a maze just like in the book. Some dogs play tennis on top of blimps. There are green birds in the book. And of course there's the party tree.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The dog from the original book's cover is named Paw Barker and the pink poodle with different hats is named Lady Lydia in this series.
  • "New Neighbors" Plot: In Episode 1 of Season 1 Scooch Pooch and his mom move into the town of Pawston next to the Barkers' house.
  • Odd Name Out: Tag's rivals during the Race Cadet storyline are Wind Swiftly, Tread Lightly, and... Doug.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Tag and Scooch are best friends with a very strong bond.
  • Punny Name: Frank and Beans. Bonus points for Frank resembling a Weiner dog.
  • Shaking the Rump: Some characters seems to do this while wagging their tails.
  • Spin-Offspring: Tag Barker is daughter to Paw Barker (the dog from the cover of the book).
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Platonic example, Scooch Pooch is the Tiny Guy to Tag's Huge Girl.
  • Title Drop: Used a LOT by the characters.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: With Frank.
  • Two Shorts: Most episodes are made up of 2 11 minute segments.
  • You Mean "Xmas": The dogs in Pawston celebrate "Sniffmas" (a holiday similar to Christmas).
