The evolved bipolar planetary nebula NGC 2899.

Abstract

The morphology, kinematics and physical parameters of the planetary nebula NGC 2899 are investigated. Its morphology is bipolar, dominated by an equatorial structure. Line splitting is present all over the face of the nebula with multiple high velocity components near the center of symmetry and in the bright equatorial condensations. The nebular spectrum is of high excitation and the derived ionic chemical abundances place it in the group of planetary nebulae of type I. The combined characteristics of NGC 2899 indicate that it is an evolved bipolar nebula with a massive core.
