Samuel Shafiro is a Russia Researcher at the Institute for the Study of War, where he contributes research and analysis to the Russia and Ukraine Team’s intelligence products. He previously researched Russian military activity as a virtual intern at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow and as a research assistant to Political Science Professor Dan Reiter.

Sam has also worked as a debate coach at Pace Academy and served as a free expression leadership fellow with PEN America. He has experience in open-source intelligence and is fluent in Russian and intermediate in Czech. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and Mathematics from Emory University.
