Mmmmmmmm... I would like some cake right now. With birthday icing and lots of jam.

I had a slice of cake in Starbucks the other day. It looked lovely, with three layers and jam and cream, but actually it was kind of solid in texture, not fluffy-spongey, and the cream wasn't great. Well, I should have known better, no?

I didn't get a birthday cake yesterday. :(

I'm not posting this on my main journal, because it's a silly thing to mind about, when I got nice presents and taken out for dinner, but I love birthday cakes. They make me feel all young and happy. I like the traditional sponge-with-jam-and-cream kind and lots of thick coloured icing.

Ah well. I thought you might be able to relate, fellow cake fans.

At Ceri's command, I am here.

I love cake. Most kinds of cake. Not that dense Christmas fruitcake kind, though. Ick. That, to me, isn't cake, because all it is is fruit held together with a little tiny bit of flour! It's not right, I tell you.

I have had some wonderful birthday cakes. When I was small, my parents always used to make me cakes, the most impressive of which was for my 8th birthday. It was Alice in Wonderland's tea party. Characters made of icing sitting around a cake table covered in icing. An icing dormouse asleep on a plate. So cool! If I ever get round to scanning a photo in I will show you.

When I got older, I mostly had shop-bought cake. But then, for my 20th birthday, I had a most wonderful cake, made for me by my Dad's workmate, on his order. It was a wizard! And the next year I thought that couldn't be topped, but I got a wonderful pink castle cake, several tiers high. We couldn't eat it all before it got stale, it was so big. There was a little icing princess peeking out of the window of the tower. Squee!

I would like an icon of a 1950s style housewife holding cake and looking crazily happy. That would be good.
