Our Story

Born from a shared love of surfing and a desire for change, 1TWENTY9 is the vision of Sofie and Rene. Combining Rene's surf industry expertise and Sofie's passion for vintage, we handcraft unique board shorts using old deadstock fabric, prioritizing sustainability and local production in Los Angeles. Each limited-edition pair is a piece of history, designed for the water and made with care, just 8 miles from our Venice home.

What Inspires Us

Vintage surf culture and the laid-back, lived-in lifestyle that comes with it, combined with the simplicity and structure of 1980s athleticwear silhouettes. The brand pulls from that era’s sense of durability and ease, then reinterprets it through a more intentional lens—using overlooked or unused materials and turning them into small-batch, design-forward pieces that feel personal, limited, and thoughtfully made rather than mass-produced.
