National Steel Bridge Alliance

NSBA'S MISSION IS TO ESTABLISH STEEL AS THE PREFERRED MATERIAL FOR BRIDGES.

The National Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA), a division of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) is a national, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of steel bridge design and construction. The NSBA functions as the voice of the bridge fabricators and steel mills while also partnering with the bridge design and construction community. Additional information about NSBA and its initiatives is available here.

👁 UWS guide cover
Uncoated Weathering Steel Reference Guide

If speed is what you're after, then uncoated weathering steel (UWS) is your best choice! UWS doesn't require any applied coating--that means no time spent literally watching paint dry. NSBA's Uncoated Weathering Steel Reference Guide is your go-to resource for using UWS in a variety of bridges in a diverse mix of environments.

👁 Standard Plans cover
AISC/NSBA Standard Plans for Steel Bridges

The AISC/NSBA Standard Plans for Steel Bridges simplify and speed up the bridge design process for steel plate girder bridges. These standard plans provide numerous straight steel I-girder bridge plans for a suite of various span arrangements and lengths--optimized for cost-efficiency throughout design, material selection, fabrication, and construction.

👁 Routine Steel Bridge Design Guide cover
Routine Steel Bridge Design Guide

The Guide to Navigating Routine Steel Bridge Design complements the 10th Edition AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification and focuses on steel superstructures for routine steel I-girder bridges. It identifies which provisions apply and which do not or apply only conditionally, helping engineers navigate the specifications more efficiently.

Steel Bridge Design Handbook

The Steel Bridge Design Handbook provides comprehensive guidance covering fundamental principles, advanced topics, and detailed design examples to support practicing bridge engineers in making informed decisions regarding the selection, design, fabrication, and construction of steel bridges. It is also a valuable educational resource that helps students learn the concepts and applications of steel bridge engineering.

👁 Steel Span to Weight Curves cover
Steel Span to Weight Curves

Need a quick estimate for steel bridge superstructure weight? Then look no further than the NSBA's "Steel Span To Weight Curves". They are a great way to compare various span arrangements and girder spacings on the back-of-an-envelope.

👁 Lean-on Bracing cover
Lean-on Bracing Reference Guide

Cross-frames are one of the costliest elements in a steel bridge on a per-pound basis. Reduce the number and complexity of cross-frames with lean-on bracing. The new Lean-on Bracing Reference Guide shows bridge designers how to implement lean-on bracing in routine bridge designs with minimal computational effort beyond that required for a traditional bracing system.
